Lefty gossip site somehow unites entire blogosphere behind Christine O’Donnell
posted at 8:53 pm on October 28, 2010 by Allahpundit
I’m not linking the post — read Michelle’s take instead — but this is worth blogging anyway for the unusual degree of bipartisan contempt directed at the “scoop” in question. It’s not quite the entire blogosphere that’s cringing, but … it’s pretty close, including former Gawker editors, Media Matters fellows, and feminist bloggers. Even Donna Brazile has the dry heaves over it. Not a single word of any of the criticism will make Denton and Gawker think twice before doing it again to someone else, but don’t let that stop you from recognizing the good intentions of their critics. In fact, so disgusting is this story that even NOW has lowered the boom:
NOW repudiates Gawker’s decision to run this piece. It operates as public sexual harassment. And like all sexual harassment, it targets not only O’Donnell, but all women contemplating stepping into the public sphere.
NOW/PAC has proudly endorsed women’s rights champion Chris Coons, O’Donnell’s opponent in the Delaware Senate race, and finds O’Donnell’s political positions dangerous for women. That does not mean it’s acceptable to use slut-shaming against her, or any woman.
NOW has repeatedly called out misogyny against women candidates, and this election season is no different. Let me be honest: I look forward to seeing Christine O’Donnell defeated at the polls, but this kind of sexist attack is an affront to all women, and I won’t stand for it.
Dave Weigel summed things up nicely on Twitter this afternoon. Exit question: Is Delaware media going to cover this? If so, how?

Sheila Jackson Lee and Joe Biden.
Now, the bar is on the ground.

Nahhhh, I think there’s something with the polls. Obama and Biden going to Delaware, and Coons calling out Palin to come campaign for O’Donnell? That’s not what someone who’s cruising along does.

LOL, yeah. How DARE that witch think she can fit in such august company.
ddrintn on October 28, 2010 at 9:53 PM
You’re assuming that Coons wants to just win. Political candidates who obliterate opponents in Congressional races usually have a long career ahead of them. The more he buries O’Donnell, the better shot he’s got at re-election.
MadisonConservative on October 28, 2010 at 9:53 PM
Right you are, ddrintn. So many people complain about the state of things as to Congress and yet they continue to hold up the “league” of Congressional mean as some expectation or standard by which they criticize challengers.
What’s needed is a big change in expectations and what’s valued by those elected to Congress. As long as the “league” is what it is and people continue to use that as standard to measure challengers against, then, you just get more of the same and we all lose.
O’Donnell’s a breath of fresh air, and she’s been consistently quite courageous in being genuine with the public.

I feel like donating to COD’s campaign after this. Hopefully it will turn into cashapalooza like it did for Sharron Angle after Joyless Behar’s ‘bitch’ rant.

Wish you would run for dog catcher so you could get buried by the dogs. You are always so negative towards certain candidates. Too bad your life could not be put out for all to scrutinize, liek what you did with that dog back in 1991.
WoosterOh on October 28, 2010 at 9:56 PM
I pointed out that it was a b*tchy thing that someone else wrote (to whom I commented with what you’ve quoted). And it was: a b*tchy thing to have written.
It’d be refreshing if people would just come out and write what they really mean and stop trying to cloak their denigrations of others in some form of “big talk.” People who do such underestimate the ability of the rest of us to understand what’s really bugging them.
Lourdes on October 28, 2010 at 9:56 PM
Sexism?!? Loathe her values?!?
Where is that coming from? Nevermind…just another case of jumping the gun and coming to your already entrenched ideas of me. And you couldn’t be more wrong.
O’Donnell simply is too amateurish and hardly qualified to be a US Senator. Has nothing to do with her personal “values” whatever they may be…I don’t know, she’s changed her tune on so many of her pet issues.
JetBoy on October 28, 2010 at 9:58 PM
I’m suggesting you go out tonight and buy:
(1.) Crest toothpaste;
(2.) Dental Floss;
(3.) A new toothbrush; and,
(4.) Listerine.
And then go back “home” and use all three.
Lourdes on October 28, 2010 at 9:58 PM
Ayotte–like Rossi, Fiorina–has the record and history that belongs in the US Senate. Ayotte was a good AG and won her case at the Supreme Court. As a person COD is fine, but she has done nothing in her life to merit a Senate seat. Time is very very limited right now and we should be focusing everything on Rossi, Buck, Kirk and Fiorina, not on COD.

“Women’s rights”= killing your baby
“Positions dangerous to women”= opposing killing babies
That’s the kind of insanity liberals operate on. No wonder you get anonymous BS like this.
TheBlueSite on October 28, 2010 at 9:59 PM
I note your focus, for starters, over time, as per your comments here.
As to the animosity you continue to *display abnormally* about O’Donnell, there’s much more there that’s bugging you than simply your desire to elect Castle, that despicable Leftwinger.
I strongly doubt my first evaluation of what’s bugging you about O’Donnell was off by much, if at all.
Lourdes on October 28, 2010 at 10:00 PM
We shouldn’t suggest dogs be so mistreated, WoosterOh, but otherwise, I agree with your sentiments.

I think that RINO attacks against this woman pretty much sent a clear signal to the vile left that anything was fair game regarding her.

Courage? When I think courage, I think losing a child, martyrdom, fighting cancer. Not “being genuine” on camera which, in O’D's case, is up for debate.
Bee on October 28, 2010 at 10:03 PM
What? I’ve “judged” Leftwingers as Liberals and Liberals as Leftwingers and that’s about it. So no wonder you’re all huff-and-puffy.
The thing about Conservative candidates is that they always get the Liberals who feign to be “Conservative” such as yourself and a number of others here upset.
You fool no one but yourself.
Lourdes on October 28, 2010 at 10:05 PM
Well, I never said Castle was a great candidate either…only that he probably would have had a better chance of defeating Coons. So I don’t know who’s comments you might be associating as mine.
And for the record, you are WAY off on your perceptions of me. But that’s typical of the closed-minded who etch those perceptions based on a broader stereotyping into stone for the ages.
JetBoy on October 28, 2010 at 10:06 PM
I repeat, O’Donnell has remained courageous before the public in remaining sincere as to what she believes and why.
And aren’t you glad she hasn’t had to be courageous about things like cancer? Aren’t you?

davidk on October 28, 2010 at 10:10 PM
Not a very intelligent response there (I can’t ever bring myself to refer to you as “Boy” and I continue to wonder why you identify as one).
You’re as much as enthusing about Castle (and about Coons) by denigrating like a snippy woodchuck about O’Donnell. Snip, snip, snip, bite here, snip there, snip, doubts and negations, it all adds up and a good person (O’Donnell) has to contend with your harms.
Rove has been terribly wrong in his similar denigratons of O’Donnell. And it goes beyond political disagreements (which, actually, you have never identified, your complaints about O’Donnell have all been of the indeterminable personal characteristics of her, which is what my earlier and original point about your snipping was).
Being “a good candidate” or “a bad candidate” doesn’t represent serious commenting about anyone. It’s just avoidance language to grouse about someone by way of trying to hide what’s actually bugging you (or anyone who behaves similarly).
Lourdes on October 28, 2010 at 10:12 PM
“Jet”"Boy” is really hauling Liberal memes out tonight. O’Donnell has him sounding somewhat ready to make a Joy Behar walk-off.

Yes. Once Denton (Gawker publisher) piles on, it’s an indication that the Left thinks it’s “funny” like Teena Fey’s work using Palin.

I reserve the term “courage” for extraordinary circumstances, not behavior we should expect from all elected officials.

Saw on Michelle’s site that Absolut Vodka was a Gawker advertiser. Sent this to them:
First, your web site sucks. Find a new provider. I have a very high speed connection, and the bull shit you do to eat up band width is stupid.
Secondly, you probably won’t miss it, but you’ve lost a customer that used to buy at least a 1.75 liter bottle a month. And I have friends, and you’ll loose them too.
Advertising on Gawker may have seemed like a good idea. You’re supporting those useless pieces of shit, I won’t buy EVER buying your product again. I like Skyy better anyway.

Delaware Senate:
51%- (D)Chris Coons
44%- (R)Christine O’Donnell
4%- Undecided
1%- Other
This was on the 19th so she may be closer now. Even at this with Republican enthusiasm she could win.
sharrukin on October 28, 2010 at 10:42 PM
The outward attacks on O’Donnell is because she is the most vulnerable, and the least defended.
I thought for awhile that the polls were wrong…but I have come to realize that bully’s pick on the defenseless, and she has the weakest of defenders.
Only hard core Republicans, who can’t stand the thought of Coons keeping the seat defend her.
Moderate Republicans and soft conservatives could care less.
She is the one candidate that the left loves to hate…the poster candidate this year.
Every year one is chosen. It was Sarah, but she was to formidable. Quayle was one, Ron Paul is one, the left keeps jabbing until they find one that, for one reason or another, doesn’t counter effective…so they pounce. Comedians, journalists, talking heads, posters…it just becomes viral.
Me? I don’t get swept up in that garbage…I want conservatives to win every seat possible…and sort out the weak after the destruction of the democrats.
She can be controlled by other conservatives…Coons can’t.
Good or bad…she is better, so I stand with her.

Wilmington, DE– Former Republican Governor of Delaware Pete Du Pont has officially endorsed Christine O’Donnell, the Republican nominee for U.S. Senate.
“It is my belief that Christine O’Donnell will represent the First State honorably in the United States Senate.
“As you know, she will be seated immediately following the November 2nd election making her votes all that more important to the citizens of our state.
“It is my hope that you will support Christine, as I am, and help her campaign move forward to victory.”
sharrukin on October 28, 2010 at 11:06 PM
So did John McCain, so did lots of senators, some of them pretty disappointing. Just because this one over here is “qualified” in your eyes doesn’t make any candidate who deviates from that pattern “unqualified”.
ddrintn on October 28, 2010 at 11:10 PM
That’s not the problem. It wasn’t universally “condoned”. It was “condemned”.

She didn’t misspell the word. She used the antonym. A true *facepalm*, but I’ll give her the benefit of the doubt that it was a staffer, not she herself who made the tweet.
Still…what a metaphor for her entire campaign. Christ.
MadisonConservative on October 28, 2010 at 11:25 PM

MadisonConservative on October 28, 2010 at 11:25 PM

Before it was condemned, it was silently condoned by the lack of instant criticism.
Emperor Norton on October 28, 2010 at 11:27 PM
By the way, a “true *facepalm*” would be someone not knowing what the words “condemn” and “condone” mean. Are you saying that O’Donnell REALLY doesn’t know the meanings of those words? Of course not. It’s the same old nitpicky bitchiness.

Amazing how a few supporters of politicians have adopted the exact same tactic.

I mentioned that a few supporters adopted the same tactic. I didn’t say that you were cultists. Odd, though, how you reflexively defended against such a notion.
Oh…and she made the mistake twice, and hasn’t yet fixed the second.
I’ve never smeared her, genius. I’ve brought up her past, which I was always told was insignificant. Apparently, remarks from one candidate calling himself a “bearded Marxist” is significant, but holding open a seven million dollar gender discrimination lawsuit against a conservative thinktank for three years is insignificant. Because, you know, fiscal conservatives file those kinds of lawsuits.

MadisonConservative on October 28, 2010 at 11:54 PM
I think she is old enough to have a 1 night stand if she wants to and it’s nobodies business whether she did or didn’t. It’s of no relevance to the election.

ddrintn on October 28, 2010 at 11:56 PM
It’s called not trusting her. If she’s clearly out for her own interests, and lies about things like tax liens and defaulted mortgages and prior campaign debt, how exactly are we to trust her to vote the way she says she will? If she’s willing to throw a conservative thinktank under the bus for seven million, how much to throw the rest of the conservative movement under the bus and become the next Mike Castle, hmmm?
Either you want accountability from your representatives, or you don’t. Man up and deal with the facts about candidates, and stop attacking everyone who points them out as operatives of Mike Castle or whatever other entity you ascribe criticism to.
MadisonConservative on October 28, 2010 at 11:58 PM

MadisonConservative on October 29, 2010 at 12:01 AM
In other words no. You have no criticism on the issues at all. Personal smearing is the entirety of what you have to say.
