Today is the 46th anniversary of Ronald Reagan’s famous speech, “A Time for Choosing.”

The thing that struck me as I watched it again was how relevant its message still is for today’s America. Just as in 1964, we have a president who says “we must accept a greater government activity in the affairs of the people.” And just as then, we hear the voices of those on the left who claim the profit motive has become “outdated” and the Constitution “outmoded.” Back then liberals aimed to build a Great Society in which the state looked after us “from the cradle to the grave.” Today’s “fundamental transformation” doesn’t have a similarly catchy name, but its aims are no different from those of Johnson’s central planners.

And so once again we face an election in which the fundamental issue is “whether we believe in our capacity for self-government or whether we abandon the American revolution and confess that a little intellectual elite in a far-distant capitol can plan our lives for us better than we can plan them ourselves.”

Reagan believed that in the end, Americans would always choose liberty over tyranny. He called it our “destiny,” our American birth right. Well, this coming Tuesday, you and I have another rendezvous with destiny. America, let’s go and win one for the Gipper.

aanyone else getting worried by how out of touch the left is? I mean they are bordering on delusional and they still have all the levers of power and will have them iuntil jan. I don’t like to fearmonger but the left has been coming unhinged and I for one am very worried about what they will do. The left are so far to the left that I do not think they will ever be able to accept the population’s wishes and remain sane. They have bought the marxist dogma hook, line and sinker. the USA today is reminding me of past history lessons. when you have a small minority totally against the majority and when that small minority have the power over that majority.

I am very very worrried about election fraid, about EO issies by Obama and a possible effort by the left to bring about a consitutional crisis once the GOP wins Congress.

Does anyone here think Obama would not “go to war” with congress? and once a POTUs does that it is easy to go from talking tough to being tough. When Obama called the GOP his enemies it sent shivers down my spine, Now with chris and Olberman and Maher and Joy all talking as if the majority of the country are idiots I see the lines being drawn and the country being divided for at least the next 2 years possibly longer. a state “destitute in energy” as Hamilton might say; unable or unwilling to attend to the new “humiliations” of widening income gaps, widening education gaps, and the destruction of the environment

There is no logical argument in favor of supporting democrats. I freely admit this, as they are very much out of their minds on many issues. However, the GOP, and in my opinion modern conservatism a la Sarah Palin, is damaged goods.
