Video: “I’ve had this heckler going on for two minutes now”
posted at 6:00 pm on October 24, 2010 by Ed Morrissey
How can you tell Charlie Crist is getting desperate? His lips are moving — when it’s Marco Rubio’s turn to speak. Rubio attempted to answer a question in today’s CNN debate among the candidates for Florida’s US Senate Seat, and instead Crist barged into his time to offer a non-sequitur on “transparency.” As the Shark Tank reports, Crist appeared to time his heckling to stop Rubio from talking about Crist’s flip-flops on the issues:
Much to the surprise of the viewing audience, the debate was crashed by a “heckler” who disrupted the proceedings by showing a lack of respect for the moderators and for Mr. Rubio whom this ‘Heckler’ targeted. I am sure CNN is looking into how this heckler made it passed security and into the debate room. “The Heckler’s” chameleon-like disguise was one of a kind and his actions showed that he has obviously mastered the art of deception and has perpetrated this kind of smoke and mirrors trickery before.
This “Heckler”, who actually made it on to the stage, can only be described as, Superhero-like, with snow white hair, lean physique, and a very tan complexion. The Heckler has been identified as none other than the candidate ”of the people”, the “ I need your vote, what should I say now” candidate, the “ what do the pollster think I should do” candidate. The “Heckler” of whom I refer to was none other than Governor Charlie “The Chuckster” Crist.
Rubio was responding to Governor Crist’s politically expedient ‘flip-flops’ on the issues, when Governor Crist lost it and began a rant that was aimed to talk over Rubio, simply to try to muzzle Rubio from laying a smackdown on him by detailing the reasons for the Governor’s change in party affiliation and the notorious, and well documented change in positions on the issues.
Usually, candidates stick to their own allotted time in debates, which allow for enough time to respond to points made by their opponents. Crist seems worried about allowing Rubio to speak, though. Rubio responds with a good line about being used to hecklers in the audience, but not among debate partners, to which Crist responds with a weird “Welcome to the NFL!”
Speaking about transparency … Crist shouldn’t.

Seems like this same tactic was used by that creep Coons against O’Donnell in the Delaware debate.
Must be the “in” thing among the loser crowd this Fall.

What the heck does that mean?

Reminds me of Al Gore debating President Bush, practically tried to knock shoulders with him.
These power-whores will do anything!

“Usually have them in the audience” = laughter from said audience.
“Welcome to the NFL” = dead silence.

I’m thankful that we only 9 more days of Charlie Crist before he’s left to spend the rest of his days in well-deserved obscurity.
PackerBronco on October 24, 2010 at 6:19 PM
When is there ever a good moderator. Almost every debate, it seems, the moderator is antagonistic towards the republican and actively tries to help the democrat.

The Nevada debate between Reid and Angle was reasonably well done. It was notable for that, as most are not.

Ken Buck should never have gone on MTP. dumb.
It’s amazing with Crist. He says he’s a fiscal conservative, but he has sold out to the unions. In this debate and the one at Nova, Crist has become obsessed with abortion. This from a guy in 06 said he had a change of heart and became pro-life, and I think a year or two ago said he would sign the same bill as the one in S. Dakota. So happy he’s done.
TimTebowSavesAmerica on October 24, 2010 at 6:25 PM
Here is another sign that a Tea Bag candidate won a debate: LEFTIST TROLLS, POSING AS “CONCERNED CONSERVATIVES” POST HE DIDN’T.

This lady was a very fair moderator. She refused to let the audience recite the Pledge of Allegiance and when they did anyway she gave a ton of “Excuse me!” s and said she wouldn’t be “disrespected”. She also is a member of Obama’s “One America” or whatever it’s called. Now I’d call that “fair”.
Marcus on October 24, 2010 at 6:27 PM
You’d think Crist would be ashamed of himself but then he obviously has no shame.
classic narcissist.

Since no one has said it, and if he were female, you all would, Rubio is so much easier to look at. He’s a handsome young man and the contrast between him and barney, etc., is so striking. OK, he is smart and conservative etc., etc., but look at how they raved on about obama’s looks, and I’m still looking to find it. Especially the last several photos, he does look, well you all know.
Bambi on October 24, 2010 at 6:33 PM

The only thing I can think of is that when the commentators are giving the highlights, one guy will describe what happened, and the others will comment and yell in the background.

Senator Marco Rubio better be a key note speaker in the 2012 GOP Convention!
terryannonline on October 24, 2010 at 6:37 PM
Rubio didn’t win this debate, he kicked a$$ in this debate. Crist didn’t want him to speak because he knew he’d be telling the truth. I hope the Democrats get smart and not support Crist, he deserves to be a distant 3rd in this race and, if it weren’t for the teacher’s unions, he would be.

Gosh, ol’ Instant Tan Charlie tried to shout Rubio down just like Liberals always do when they’re losing a debate. Hmmm. Imagine that….
kingsjester on October 24, 2010 at 6:43 PM
It’s an expression they say to a rookie who gets the living daylights knocked out of him by a particularly brutal tackle. The tackler will say: Welcome to the NFL.
John the Libertarian on October 24, 2010 at 6:45 PM
Crist thinks he gave Rubio a brutal tackle?
Now that’s funny!

The heckling isn’t what burned my butt right off the bat…
Looks are one thing, Bambi and, admittedly, Marco’s got ‘em by the bushelful, but you know what make him standout (and I’m lucky enough to work for the campaign as a county Team leader)?
His humanity. God bless him ~ he’d hang for hours if he could, shaking everyone’s hand, talking, answering questions and remembering that he saw you the last time he was in town. I tell everyone, when he’s coming into Pensacola, I don’t care if you’ve seen him on TV a MILLION times: SEE HIM IN PERSON.
For all Obama’s Greek God-like pretensions, the man couldn’t be bothered to give you the time of day, unless it was in his immediate best interest.

Frankly, Christ is the poster child for the central nervous system effects of long-term BOTOX usage.

Very true. Might as well have AnthonyCEA up there trying to moderate…it’s that obvious!
BruthaMan on October 24, 2010 at 7:17 PM
Can you imagine Charlie Crist doing this to Barney Frank and his OCD over being interupted?
Elizabetty on October 24, 2010 at 7:19 PM
“Welcome to the NFL” refers to Rubio stating that while playing quarterback after the play was issued in the huddle when going to the line and reading the defense there were times when the play needed to be changed. It was a good metaphor and Crist totalyy missed the point of it. So in all honesty he made himself look stupid and weak not Rubio.
milwife88 on October 24, 2010 at 7:21 PM
Crist could put on a skirt and imitate Ines Sainz on the sidelines, -that’s as close as he could get to the NFL.
slickwillie2001 on October 24, 2010 at 7:24 PM
I got it backwards. Crist was the one who used the metaphor not Rubio. Still by saying “welcome to the NFL” was stupid. If anyone can’t handle the heat it’s Crist.
milwife88 on October 24, 2010 at 7:25 PM
Kendrick Meeks: “And I’m still coming in 3rd?!?”
SouthernGent on October 24, 2010 at 7:27 PM
Here’s the exchange. Crist’s whiney response is not surprising.
Boo hoo!
milwife88 on October 24, 2010 at 7:28 PM
Rather than “Welcome to the Big League” he mentions the NFL. Yep Crist is obviously not a masculine man. Cheerleading is more Crist’s style.

Must I be reminded daily on what a tool Charlie Crist has turned out to be? Probably my biggest political-support mistake evah. Still not convinced how Rubio will be in the Senate, but he’s kinda growing on me.
Besides…even Meek seems to have more charm, charisma, and tact than Crist. What a friggin’ narcissistic opportunist.
JetBoy on October 24, 2010 at 8:00 PM
You know he has a Focus Group gaggle that’s imploring him to use more manly dialog. And I’m not sure about the cheerleading either. I could see his frail little frame being crushed trying to catch that spinning 100 lb female cheerleader.

“welcome to the NFL” – politics is a contact sport. Seemed obvious to me. Still think Crist is a piece of cr@p, perhaps a burnt piece of cr@p, but the NFL thing didn’t seem that obscure to me.
Willie on October 24, 2010 at 9:53 PM
I call BS. There are still commenters here who would love for Crist to pull this out. He’s their man. He’ll vote for the legislation they want.
So you can still only barely stomach Rubio, huh? Ask yourself what kind of Republican you really are. If you really are.
hawkdriver on October 24, 2010 at 10:17 PM
Ok, serious question. Does Crist have some kind of mental problems? Bi-poler maybe? His actions seem to be growing more deeply irrational every day. This is beyond just political ambition, the guy has a screw loose.

In a just world Brit Hume would moderate every political debate everywhere in the country.
Though in our world, I do have to defend some moderators. I know they’re called “moderators” but it takes real backbone and courage of your convictions to take someone who is about to be President or Senator to task. Political debates rely far more on gentleman’s rules which leaves it open to being abused by a side willing to do anything to win, which we know who that is.
Just the standard malady afflicting men who had everything and whose world is now crashing down around them.
Ummmm… errrrr… nevermind.
