Rob Reiner: You know what this tea party movement reminds me of? Nazism
posted at 2:15 pm on October 23, 2010 by Allahpundit
I’d call this the intellectual highlight of last night’s Bill Maher show except that later Maher ended up asking Levi Johnston if he uses condoms now, so, hey. This is what I meant the other day about Democrats wanting to lash out at voters for being racist and crazy and Hitlerian enough to elect Republicans, but that’s too much of a risk given how many centrists and independents are committed to voting for tea party candidates next month. You don’t want to alienate any constituencies you might otherwise be able to win back in 2012. Better for the White House to stick to a more gently condescending line about voters “not thinking clearly” or whatever and let B-list surrogates like Rachel Maddow and Meathead here do the heavy lifting.
Reiner and his fellow travelers are a lot more comfortable with Hitler analogies than I am, but if we’re going to play a game that lamentably stupid and offensive, I suppose I could chip in by noting that it ain’t the GOP making headlines lately for fearmongering speeches about shadowy foreigners threatening to destroy our democracy from within. And the hate! Like P.J. O’Rourke says, don’t forget the hate:
They don’t just hate our Republican, conservative, libertarian, strict constructionist, family values guts. They hate everybody’s guts. And they hate everybody who has any. Democrats hate men, women, blacks, whites, Hispanics, gays, straights, the rich, the poor, and the middle class.
Democrats hate Democrats most of all. Witness the policies that Democrats have inflicted on their core constituencies, resulting in vile schools, lawless slums, economic stagnation, and social immobility. Democrats will do anything to make sure that Democratic voters stay helpless and hopeless enough to vote for Democrats…
This is not an election on November 2. This is a restraining order. Power has been trapped, abused and exploited by Democrats. Go to the ballot box and put an end to this abusive relationship. And let’s not hear any nonsense about letting the Democrats off if they promise to get counseling.
As always, there’s no political argument so obnoxious that the Maher audience won’t applaud for it provided that it comes from the right side. Big cheers for Reiner near the end here, natch. Exit question: Hey, is that Jake Tapper?

How odd. I was just the other day thinking how much Nazism reminds me of Rob Reiner.

Bada-bing. That’s PJ at his best.
Y’know, over the past 200 years the vast majority of nations in the world at some time embraced some sort of dictatorship. Of the left or the right or some synthesis of the two.
All except the US. Why? Because we designed a limited government that was decentralized and had numerous checks and balance.
I dare say it’s not the Tea Partyers or the right that wish to remove all of those limits.
If a populist movement led by a demagogic dictator-in-chief really arises in America, I suggest it will come from the left more than from the right.

Who is this Bill Maher cretin you speak of?

Spewing insane nonsense is the meter to which you can measure a “celebritiy’s” obscurity and just how dead their career is. The more they try to get attention with sburd comments, the deader and won’t be resurected the career is.
Garofalo was the first to jump out with lunatic comments, soon others whose career was not quit non existant but stil ldead, followed. Reiner tried to keep his mouth shut but in the end realized his toilet bowl career was at the bottom of the barrel. In their minds, even negative attentinon is better than no one returning his calls.
It’s no coincidence his one and only actor role was named “meathead”. Daddy can’t get you roles anymore and you have no talent. What’s left for RR and his ilk but ranting absurdity that will get them thrown in the booby hatch?

Meathead, at about 1:30 “Hitler never got more that 33% off the vote ever,in Germany.
Actual:
On April 19, 1932, the runoff results were:
Hindenburg 53.0 percent
Hitler 36.8 percent
Thaelmann 10.2 percent
Meathead had trouble with math. 36>33 This explains some of his problem.
He can’t do math, why trust his word on anything else?

Limited national government, strong private sector, checks and balances, individual responsibility, stronger state and local governments….
vs.
Centralized government, more regulations, more powerful administrative agencies, higher spending…..
Which of those two views is more likely to lead to a dictatorial government?

Nazi analogies hey, lets try. Who is associated with central planning, economic autarchy, xenophobic fear of “foreign” influences, has a messianic leader, used a borderline teleology that assumed election of this messianic figure would unite and purify the nation, obsesses over race, uses the government and allies to demonize and harass foes, turned loyal opposition into treason and does this all while maintaining an awesome level of double think by pretending they are open minded and progressive.

One of the many reasons I associate Rob Reiner with Nazism is his name — Reiner.
As everyone with even a scintilla of knowledge recognizes, Reiner means a person of low inbreeding who lives along the east bank of the Rein River.
And where is the Rein River? In Germany. And what comes from Germany? Nazism.
Ergo, ipso facto, Reiner is a Nazi.

As an economic system, fascism is socialism with a capitalist veneer. The word derives from fasces, the Roman symbol of collectivism and power: a tied bundle of rods with a protruding ax (shown on the reverse of the American Mercury dime). While allowing some private ownership it seeks to control a country’s means of production through government control and regulation. Obama and Co. are the reincarnation of the fascists of the last century, minus nationalism.
drewas on October 23, 2010 at 2:59 PM
Reiner is doing exactly what the Nazi party did to it’s enemies. Viciously lie and demonize them. I wonder if Meathead realizes he’s imitating the Nazis by calling the Tea party Nazis?

These Hollywood hacks are so funny. They sit there and pontificate about the world and think their thoughts are important. Truth is 95% of them would be pumping gas or working at Taco Bell if it weren’t for a lucky break that got them discovered.
