Zucker: Sorry for backing Boxer

posted at 12:31 pm on October 22, 2010 by Ed Morrissey

Famed filmmaker David Zucker penned an apology to Big Government readers for backing Barbara Boxer in past elections for the US Senate. It turns out that the producer of films such as Airplane, Naked Gun, Top Secret!, and An American Carol once contributed to Boxer during her first campaign for Senate.  For penance, Zucker offers this soon-to-be classic short, Call Me Madam Joe, that merges Boxer’s most arrogant moment with a dose of Abbott and Costello — featuring one of our favorite character actors, Clint Howard:

Call Me Madam Joe from RightChange on Vimeo.

I thought an apology would have been appropriate, but to my knowledge, none has ever been made by Senator Boxer.  This I find distressing, since apologies from public figures nowadays are the norm.  I mean, it’s not as if she texted her junk to Brett Favre.  This was just arrogantly insulting an army officer.  But I guess that’s okay with her.

In the debate with Carly Fiorina, the subject was brought up, but Boxer was quite adept at deflecting it — and still without an apology.  Let this video be my apology.  Every time I see the public record listing my campaign contribution to Boxer — I wince.   I mean, we all have things we’ve done in the past that we’re embarrassed about, but I’d rather have my being restricted to 100 yards away from elementary schools be public knowledge than that $5,000  Boxer campaign contribution.

You’re forgiven, David.  I tell you that in my capacity as senior editor and correspondent for Hot Air.  Allahpundit and I worked hard to get those titles through humpbot posts and NFL open threads, so don’t forget it.

Update: How did I miss Zo in there?  Great job!

Update II: Commenters say that’s Ed Ames playing the native American chief.  And that’s Nick Searcy playing the major general, says … Nick Searcy!

Boxer did work hard! She has walked, (and voted), lock-step with Obama, Pelosi, and the liberal progressive agenda that’s spent trillions in taxpayer dollars. Boxer will work even harder to raise those taxes while shoving more government down your throats.

On November 2nd, let’s give her a “hard-earned” break, and retire this career politician.

I was watching TCM several weeks ago and saw the move Zero Hour. I never knew that was the basis for the Airplane spoof until I recognized several lines taken straight from the movie, plot similarities and, to clinch it, the main character’s name: Ted Stryker. The movie was kinda lame, but I enjoyed it immensely just waiting for the plot and dialogue rip-off points to occur.

Hou would I loooove to see this go viral and aired on network and even cable airwaves.

Leslie Nielsen to Barbara Boxer ala Naked Gun:
Ma’am?

Boxer as Queen Mum:
What is it?

Nielsen (looking off in the distance wistfully):
It’s a pompous Senator who has forgotten the meaning of the word humility….who lines her nest with shiny trinkets and cheap baubles of pretended respect from her victims, all pecked to death, who had no idea what evil they were up against…

(Snapping out of his reverie): But that’s not important now……you’re due at the podium for your concession speech! Ma’am!

gajaw999 on October 22, 2010 at 4:14 PM

One of the funniest scenes from Naked Gun was a meeting Drebin arranged at the Blue Note Cafe. All these depressed people are sitting around, sad music is playing, and the camera trails along the wall, focusing on various depressing pictures: the Hindendurg, the Atomic Bomb, some other depressing scenes, and then stops on Michael Dukakis’ smiling mug. I thought I was going to die laughing! Rules for Radical Conservatives, Rule 9: laugh at liberals and make them an object of derision. This video does a pretty good job of that!

gajaw999 on October 22, 2010 at 4:22 PM
