Keith Ellison: Let’s face it, what Juan Williams said was “un-American”

posted at 8:02 pm on October 22, 2010 by Allahpundit

A searing indictment from a guy known to idly compare 9/11 to the Reichstag fire. The good news: By the standards of prominent Democrats, this accusation of un-American-ism almost qualifies as serious. The last time this charge was made, it was Jennifer Granholm complaining about, er, criticism of the Chevy Volt. The bad news: He’s got a point about the logical flaw in being suspicious of airline passengers dressed in Muslim garb. The last thing a jihadi wants to be is obtrusive; that’s why Mohammed Atta and crew eschewed long beards and opted for western dress when checking in at the terminal on their big day. Unless he’s the dumbest terrorist in the world, no self-respecting hijacker’s wearing a dishdasha to the airport — precisely because so many people there will have the same reaction as Juan Williams and scrutinize him that much more closely.

I don’t know, though. Maybe Al Qaeda’s hijackers of the future should wear dishdashas. Since it’s now bigoted and “un-American” to make any sort of mental association between airplanes and devout Muslims and bad outcomes, flouting flaunting one’s religious devotion might be the surest way to make people look away. Click the image to watch.

Update: Brain freeze above — meant flaunting, not flouting.

Update (Ed): Just as a reminder, Joel Demos is running to replace Ellison.

Everbody who is critical of Juan Williams is a racist.

Take that, liberals!

Those that are so inclined likely could not give a fu**.

Excuse me, Keith Ellison.
Remind me again. Just what did Juan Williams say that was “un-American?

Was it when he expressed his gutteral, emotional reaction of concern when seeing Muslims in “Muslim garb” at airports post-9/11? A predictable and very human reaction, by the way?

Is it the very expression of that very human reaction that you wish to quell? Do you you claim to be above such emotion? And, if so, aren’t you admitting to being inhuman?

Or, if not, was it Juan’s insistance that such gutteral reactions were unworthy of a fair-minded person, and that we must all get beyond such stereotyping — which was the main thrust of his argument and why he was invited onto O’Reilly’s show in the first place?

(I assume that you’ve watched the entire segment and are under no illusions about what Juan was saying. I may be wrong in that assumption, of course.)

Or was it, maybe, that he was an NPR analyst and, simultaneously, a FoxNews contributor?

Have you, Keith Ellison, ever noticed that while you smirk at FoxNews’ primetime personalities’ distaste for the “fairness doctrine”, it is FoxNews’ primetime personalities that invite vigorous debate? Have you also noticed that MSNBC’s primetime personality bans commentary from dissenters?

Keith Ellison, you’re a hack and your stripe is bold. You assign thoughts to Juan Williams that you have no rational cause to assign and, even worse, gleefully applaud the punishment of thoughts and emotions.

In a word, Keith, you are a tyrant. And tyrants are un-American.

Did he just say he didn’t know what “muslim garb” is?

Dollayo on October 22, 2010 at 11:15 PM

Keith Ellison. A sitting United States Senator praises a proven terrorist sympathizer.

Key West Reader on October 22, 2010 at 9:27 PM

KWR: He’s a Congressman, not a Senator.

Franken’s the Senator.

Don’t make this worse than it already is.

Bruno Strozek on October 22, 2010 at 11:20 PM

Let’s face it….what Keith Ellison said is, as usual….stupid.

Keith Ellison is nothing more than a first class RACIST!

Islam is un-American. Shariah, the essence of Islam, is 180 degrees out from the United States Constitution. What Juan Williams said, exercising his First Amendment rights, which this Keith Ellison obviously finds abhorrent to Islam, and basic common sense, was no more un-American than someone telling the truth about Nazism or Communism or the KKK would be. Keith Ellison is a very sick man.

Keith Ellison is definitely UN-AMERICAN.

Anyone who follows the news is well aware that the terrorists will look like normal everyday Americans when they strike. It still does not remove the feelings people get. As decent people we just need to always treat others with respect and as an individual. This issue brings us back to the central complaint, where are Muslims in denouncing the terrorists and their theological supporters? We always see them defending Muslims from criticism or denouncing those with a legitimate fear but never denouncing the violent jihadists and sharia supporters.

Islam is un-American.

Luka on October 23, 2010 at 1:07 AM

Exactly right.

There is no squaring this circle – islam is the polar opposite of everything the US Constitution stands for.

He’s got a point about the logical flaw in being suspicious of airline passengers dressed in Muslim garb.

No, he doesn’t, because that’s exactly what Williams goes on to say — that you can’t let your emotional reaction get in the way of reason and lead to bigotry. Bizarro world!

Keith Ellison is a self-proclaimed practicing muslim, in case the readers are unaware ;-)

rightwink on October 23, 2010 at 9:46 AM

Seems to me that worshipping a religion that holds America to be Satan is un-American.

Tantor on October 23, 2010 at 10:29 AM

As American as soccer, falafels and swearing into office on a Koran…

KZnextzone on October 23, 2010 at 12:14 PM

Oh, Mr. Ellison why don’t you shut up.
It is NOT un-american what Mr. Williams said. It just hurt your & your friends feelings. Too Bad it’s True. He’s not the only person in the WORLD to have these feelings. You and your “friends” have done nothing to help the uneasiness about wanting to fly with you, PERIOD!!!

mmcnamer1 on October 23, 2010 at 2:47 PM

Hey, I have a Big Idea!!!
Radical Muslims wouldn’t dare take a plane down that has cute little pot belly pigs on it. They consider the pig a vile thing. Lets just load planes up with a couple. That would cerntainly calm me.

mmcnamer1 on October 23, 2010 at 2:50 PM

islam and Freedom are incompatible as islam is slavery. It’s as simple as that.

islam is a lie and
Truth is killing it.
