Leftist dullards mock Palin for correctly referencing Boston Tea Party
posted at 5:03 pm on October 19, 2010 by Allahpundit
Yesterday, at a Tea Party Express event in Nevada, she warned the crowd not to get overconfident, telling them they won’t be able to “party like it’s 1773″ until a bunch of tea-party candidates are safely elected. Lefty insta-meme: Idiot Sarah Palin doesn’t know that the Declaration of Independence was signed in 1776! Because, after all, nothing happened in 1773 that could possibly be worth referencing at a tea-party rally, right?
Cuffy Meigs at Perfunction did the hard work of sifting through tweets from left-wing imbeciles, so I’m going to force you to click over there for his full round-up. I do want to steal this one, though:

That’s from Gwen Ifill, respected PBS fixture and — remember? — moderator of the Palin/Biden VP debate back in 2008, a job she landed right around the time she was working on her book about the glory of Hopenchange. You sure showed her, Gwen.
Via Hot Air alum Bryan Preston, here’s video of Palin at yesterday’s event standing in front of all sorts of signs referencing tea parties. Get it? 1773, tea party. Right? Exit question: I realize that the thought of protesting against taxes is anathema to lefties, but has their memory of the Boston Tea Party really faded that far? Good lord.

Here’s a post by Dana Loesch:
Party Like It’s 1773 with the New American Tea Party
This one is dated February 25, 2009.
Rick Santelli called for another Tea Party on February 19th, 2009.
I don’t know if Dana invented the slogan, but as you can tell it goes back at least as far as one week after Santelli’s lit the match..

No wonder they hate the country. They don’t know it’s history, other than what they’ve been told, or made up! Pathetic.
They love this country? Really? So much so, they want to destroy it, and everything it’s ever stood for.

The main point isn’t that these people are historically ignorant. It’s that they see themselves as the alpha and omega; the ultimate embodiment of all time and truth. There was no history before them, and there will be no history to follow them. This is why they have no regard either for the legacy of “dead white men” or of their legacy of debt burden to future generations.

What’s so interesting is how absolutely certain they are of their superior knowledge. They didn’t even check. It apparently didn’t even occur to them.
The year “1773″ should have been a red flag to doublecheck their impressionistic perception of what she was talking about. Why would an unlettered dolt allude to 1773 at all?
But not even that “stop” flashed through their minds. They just assumed Palin’s a moron and started piling on.

Del Dolemonte on October 19, 2010 at 6:35 PM
A loyal conservative American would tell you a different 1773 Tea Party story.
The short of it.
Prior to 1773, tea was sold at Boston harbour (taxed) at 20 shillings a pound. Tea Smugglers (like John Hancock) sold it in the colonies (untaxed)at 17 shillings a pound and did good business. Then, mismanagement got the East India Company in deep financial doo. The Crown gave them a bailout and decided to forgo its primary taxation at the port of London until the company got back on track. Then tea sold at the Boston dock for 10 shillings with 3 shillings tax for a total of 13 shillings a pound. The smugglers were suddenly out of the very lucrative tea business and being influential, tied this to the gathering call for r ebelion and pulled off the Tea Party. Patriotic American males swore off drinking tea but their wives did not. There is a great tale from Westchester County of a troop of Patriot housewives, mounted on horse back hunting down merchants suspected of having a batch of tea and being forced to sell it at the ladies recommended price. The stories of those times are much richer than just the typical cliches tossed out on certain days of the year.

To mangle (and borrow) a pretty good joke about a boxer…
Why to these people (the Palin-Phobic crowd) keep running back into the ring, just so she can hit them in the mouth again?
Like the boxer who told his corner, “Let me at him, he hasn’t laid a glove on me.” To which they answered, “Well, then, we better check out the referee, because somebody’s beating the hell out of you.”
They just really don’t get her, do they? They assume if she said it, it must be wrong because, if it isn’t wrong, then they are. Like the old adage, if there’s a stupid one in the crowd and you can’t figure out who it is, it’s probably you.
Well, at least it’s entertaining.

Here’s more video of the rally – it’s the beginning of the speech. It cuts off before the “party like it’s 1773.”
However, this video, which had been available for use of any hopeful mocker,
shows Palin setting up for later by mentioning 1773 as the year the Boston tea party took place.
There was no being good at obvious puns necessary for anyone, even Gwen I.
