Poll: What was the Obamateurism of the Week?

posted at 9:00 am on October 17, 2010 by Ed Morrissey

Time to pick the winning ticket in this week’s popularity contest and choose the Obamateurism of the Week!  Thanks to our President, the pool of selections never shrinks.  Today, I expect all of Hot Air’s readers to get their shovels ready for another week of digging up these gems, because after I get done scolding you to work harder, I’ll spend the day at a pumpkin patch with my granddaughters.  Isn’t that leadership in the age of Hopenchange?

Previous 2010 “winners”:

Got an  Obamateurism of the Day? If you see a foul-up by Barack Obama, e-mail it to me at obamaisms@edmorrissey.com with the quote and the link to the  Obamateurism. I’ll post the best Obamateurisms on a daily basis, depending on how many I receive. Include a link to your blog, and I’ll give some link love as well. And unlike Slate, I promise to end the feature when Barack Obama leaves office.

Like so much rhetoric from this admin “shovel ready” has multiple meanings. I like what Sarah Palin said about it “We know it wasn’t asphalt he was shoveling…”.

JimK on October 17, 2010 at 9:09 AM

He realized too late that “there’s no such thing as shovel-ready projects” when it comes to public works.

He didn’t “realize too late”, according to his pal at the NY Slimes. Obama lied, jobs died.

JetBoy on October 17, 2010 at 9:15 AM

I’m not sure if the Obamateurism is realizing there’s no such thing as shovel ready jobs or admitting it. Realizing it means he’s way too stupid and naive to be President, admitting it means he has so much contempt for the public that he can can say, “Yeah, I lied, so what?”.

Shovel-ready. I can’t believe anyone bought that hideous lie, but they did, and a lot of those folks are on unemployment. It is tragic that this buffoon sits in the Oval Office. Sometimes I feel safer when he goes golfing, to be honest.

I need to put a ticker on my desktop that keeps a tally of his golf trips. It’s that much of a joke. The joke’s on us.

Philly on October 17, 2010 at 9:19 AM

These things are getting harder. I mean, if you’re actually voting on what he did that was amateurish, I suppose his stupid statements like the one about being popular are shoe-ins. If you go with something like the “shovel-ready” projects, sure that’s probably where he’s done the most damage to the economy, but you have to infer that he had an intention for this to help the economy in the first place. I might be the Lone Ranger here, but I think most of TARP and the host of bail-out programs were designed only to pay back political allies. That’s not amateurish, that’s what he is.

He didn’t bother to even investigate whether there were going to be shovel-ready jobs or not before he started making promises about them, all he wanted was to shovel billions of dollars out the door to special interests and fund Pelosi’s wish lists. The meaning of freedom is discussed and Coolidge’s view of liberty. The first recorded account of a presidential speech at the White House.

It must be embarrassing and humiliating to be Mr. President nowadays, what with even his base seemingly turning on him and calling his policies bogus. I’d start playing a lot more golf too.

scalleywag on October 17, 2010 at 9:55 AM

Why does he have to have target (villains)? If he was the great communicator he was touted to be than he would have calmed the masses, explained his path to his established goals. Instead, from the beginning he has acted like a thug and now instead of being the leader of the free world, he is reduced to rallying a small band of Lefties and even some of them don’t like him. The real problem is that he appears to be okay with that. He’s doing it wrong.

Cindy Munford on October 17, 2010 at 9:58 AM

One of the greatest fables that can be bestowed upon the American peoples is that of “economy in government.”
–Calvin Coolidge

President Obama devoted his June 13 weekly address to outlining cost savings to offset the massive price tag for his proposed healthcare reform. Supposedly an additional $313 billion can be saved during the next 10 years through “common-sense changes” to Medicare and Medicaid that will “rein in unnecessary spending, and increase efficiency and the quality of care.”

juxtapositions.

Phoenix Biomedical Center
The city of Phoenix is one of the only major cities in America without an academic medical center. The site shown to the left is the location for the new Phoenix Biomedical Center – a project which will fill this void while employing thousands of people and creating an economic engine for this major metropolitan area.

Gwillie on October 17, 2010 at 10:18 AM

The year of the shovel will be the downfall of this disasterous social experiment as the American public were duped by the media and a “popular community organizer” that was never vetted. Obama and Pelosi dug us deeper into the hole by running the government printing presses at full speed—promising jobs and free entitlements.

In the magazine article, Mr. Obama reflects on his presidency, admitting that he let himself look too much like “the same old tax-and-spend Democrat,” realized too late that “there’s no such thing as shovel-ready projects” and perhaps should have “let the Republicans insist on the tax cuts” in the stimulus.

This paragraph can not be repeated enough!

The left has never changed when it comes to governing, and even Obama admits this. Tax and spending other peoples money to the tune of trillions while falsely promising jobs and prosperity. They have failed. In 16 days this will all change. Republicans will turn out to vote two to one over the Democrats. In the liberal state of California, voters will send “Senator” Maam Boxer into retirement. Career politicians, (mostly Democrats) across the nation will be joining Boxer in the unemployment lines. Obama’s cute little campaign slogan, “if you put it in D, you go forward….” rings hollow when 15 million Americans are out of work and looking at the highest tax increases in history. Thousands are losing their homes, (mostly because they could never have afforded to purchase a home under stricter guidelines), because of the CRA—another failed Democrat experiment. The liberals plan of socializing this country and becoming slaves to their government is being rejected in mass. Tough times will lay ahead as conservatives rein in this ridiculous spending spree. The assault on private businesses will also come to an end as the billion in payoffs to unions dry up. While ObamaCare will not be repealed, the funding for this disastrous experiment will be cut off, leaving the remaining Democrats still in office with no choice but to reform the health care insurance industry properly—with across state line portability and tort reform—which Democrats ignored / never considered. Americans will be asked to tighten their belts even further as the government printing presses stop running. Until the free market principals kick back in and private businesses begin to flourish, unemployment will remain high. The Democrat’s last great experiment, (the Chicago community organizer, Barack Obama), will become a lame duck for the remainder of his one term.

And on top of all this, the Giants beat Philly last night to take a 1-0 lead in the series beating one of the toughest pitchers in the baseball. If Philly doesn’t win today, they may have a hard time coming back from a 2-0 deficit while going into a more pitcher-friendly park. The “Panda-monium” has be replaced by “fear the beard” as the Giants bull pen shuts down offenses like conservatives will do to liberals in November.

It was truly sad how Cornyn let McCaskill blather on unchallenged. If I were an alien to the country who watched this interview for the first time I would have said there was no contest who was in command here. Being a Texan it pains me to say he is an awful interview. She goes on and on and on about the Democrat’s “tax-cutting” and he just sits there!

Marcus on October 17, 2010 at 10:28 AM

Yep, no contest on this one. Very, very damaging, especially as he’s now so cavalier about it all & particularly as this White House and its toadies in the press had previously condemned anybody who dared to question the wisdom of funding those ‘shovel ready’ projects as the Keynesian means for economic recovery were racist neo-nazi nutbags – even after Obama himself admitted sotta voce to at least a couple of those toadies that the whole damn thing was a massive treasury-draining, economy-strangling scam!

The one silver lining here is that Obama himself has now stamped Paul Krugman as an FDA-certified BS producer, in big block red letters for all the world to see. Anything anybody does, even if only unwittingly as the President has done, to expose that deceitful man as the irredeemable fraud that he is is a good thing, so some reluctant props of sorts are due to POTUS for that, I s’pose.

Fire at Iran’s Shahab-3 Missile Site

A massive fire is raging in the storage facility of Iran’s Shahab-3 ballistic missiles. According to online sources, the site was top secret and housed most of the Shehab-3 missile launchers that Iran had stocked for striking US forces in Iraq and Israel in the event of war – some even set to deliver triple warheads.

More than 18 Revolutionary guards were killed and 14 others wounded in an explosion Tuesday at a base of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards (IRG) Corps in the Western Iranian province of Lurestan, reported Iran’s official news agency IRNA Wednesday.

Speaking of Barack Obama and shovels:

The Promised Land

Over 5,000 years ago, Moses said to the children of Israel, “Pick up your shovels, mount your asses and camels, and I will lead you to the Promised Land.”

Nearly 5,000 years later, Roosevelt said, “Lay down your shovels, sit on your asses, and light up a Camel; this is the Promised Land!”

Now Barack Obama has stolen your shovels, kicked your asses, raised the price of your Camels, and mortgaged the Promised Land.

We’re just getting started on bailing out the greedy fatcat unions. The take-over-401K notion is largely a union pension bailout. They can do it that way, or simply hand the unions a fat check. They may try to slip this through the lame duck congress.

Not to forget, Obamacare included some little gems for union healthcare, and the bailout of GM and Chrysler the UAW rescued union retirees gold-plated health packages.
