Crist to Rubio: You offend my Hispanicness
posted at 9:13 am on October 16, 2010 by Ed Morrissey
How do we know Charlie Crist has fully transformed into a Democrat? He set himself up as the authority on Hispanic authenticity in the debate with Marco Rubio and Kendrick Meek last night on the Tampa Bay Fox affiliate. In fact, Crist goes so far that the other Democrat in the race winds up objecting to the attack after Marco Rubio’s strong rebuttal. Crist attempts to scold Rubio for “turning his back on his Hispanic family,” and then tries to weasel out of it by saying he just read it in a newspaper:
It’s bad enough playing identity politics when one is of the identity in question. It’s doubly offensive when it comes from someone who shares nothing of the ethnicity they purport to represent. In Crist’s case, though, it qualifies as high satire. Isn’t Crist the candidate that just “turned his back” on the political party he led in this state only because Rubio was kicking his rear end in primary polling, and then spent the next several months reversing almost every policy position he ever held? Crist has the nerve to lecture Rubio on political ambition?
And then, after that, Crist tries running away from his own attack by claiming that he was just quoting someone else. Not only is Crist shameless, he’s gutless as well.

Presumably the Republicans aren’t going to want Charlie back after he loses (their stupidity repeatedly surprises me, but the idea of them taking Charlie back now is too far-fetched). His next move will be to look for some sort of political appointment from the Democrats. Think he’s too far gone for even the Dems to touch?

But, the Democrats are warning us we better keep these “moderates” on our side. Yeah, we’ll get right on that.
Not.
If your definition of “moderate Republican” includes the phrase “spineless, unprincipled hacks, driven solely by political ambition, the retention of power and bald-faced avarice”, then by all means, get all these “moderates” out of office as soon as humanly (and lawfully) possible.
Bruce MacMahon on October 16, 2010 at 9:34 AM
Further, if you find yourself being lectured about the evils of kicking “moderate Republicans” out of the party by someone who considers Barack Obama to be a “moderate” Democrat, you have my permission to laugh at them and simply walk away.
Bruce MacMahon on October 16, 2010 at 9:35 AM
Look. Crist is a case study into an unrepentant politician. He’ll stand on whatever ground he has to in order to gain a vote. The trouble is, that he’s turned himself into a farce, a joke and a doofus. He tried to bait Marco Rubio by going over the top with that line and I have to commend Florida’s upcoming choice for a Senator for maintaining his composure as well as he did.

Crist had to go somewhere for victims, by and large the umpa lumpa in the state of Florida are doing rather well. Seriously, I’m not in Florida right now so I don’t know what the TV ads look like but on a whole Mr. Meek seems to be a decent person and it is almost ashamed that he is being overlooked by Dems because of Crist. Isn’t it odd that they would flirt with backing this disreputable man instead of truly backing their own candidate? It says as much about them as a party as their stand on various issues.

I would agree. It’s too bad that Meek is being overshadowed by such a big toolbag as Charlie Crist. Crist is not a worthy opponent for Marco Rubio, nor as a representative for Florida. His desperation reeks and every move he makes only further exposes his crumbling position. Charlie Crist is getting pounded, he is like a wounded cat and is merely lashing out to try and hurt Rubio and will only get pounded anyway. Meek is going to finish this election with all of his ammo and powder mostly intact and will live another day for another election. Crist is through.

I just hope Meek comes in second rather than third. One of the first thinks Mr. Meek did in his campaign was to have his campaign sponsor a car at Daytona and I will always remember his grace and kindness when the senior Mr. Rubio passed away. Crist is so unworthy on so many levels. If nothing else this awful campaign has given a clear picture of Mr. Crist and if he ever attains higher office the people will have no one to blame but themselves.

I enjoy the disdain that Rubio has for RINOs. He is another flavor of Jim DeMint. Crist is becoming so slippery and sleazy that I wonder if, in his quiet moments, he’s actually noticed himself. After all the dust settles in this mid-term election, an expose of this lack of principle applied in a pitifully desperate effort to get elected might make a best seller for some author out there. Certainly,to some degree, the use this tactic could be applied to the WH. I guess it depends on whether it works or not?

But a funny thing happened on the way to her coronation: Hillsborough County Democratic Party Chair Pat Kemp declared two weeks later that the district ought to be represented by someone who actually lives in it, and that person was Pat Kemp. And prior to Kemp’s announcement, 33-year-old attorney Gil Sanchez said he too would like to try for the seat, though he, like Cruz, resides outside the district. (He lives in Channelside.)
But if Pat Kemp was the only indigenous candidate, she soon came under fire from some of her opponent’s supporters, who asked, somewhat stunningly, whether she was the right ethnicity.
That’s because District 58 is considered by some political insiders to be a “Hispanic seat,” traditionally represented by a candidate with a Latin background.

And,Shazamm,more La Gaceta
And that’s what led La Gaceta Editor and Publisher Patrick Manteiga to write in his weekly column that Kemp “wants to wrestle this district away from Latins,” a broadside that has angered and divided the local Democratic party.

Prominent Trilingual Newspaper Endorses Charlie Crist for U.S. Senate, urges Florida voters to unite against Marco Rubio
LA GACETA
This is a most unusual race that is drawing national attention. Former Florida Speaker of the House Marc Rub (we have stripped Marco Rubio of his Hispanicness and the vowels from his name) is the Republican nominee and faces Congressman Kendrick Meek, who is the Democratic nominee, and both are being challenged by Governor Charlie Crist, who is no party’s nominee. Let’s also not forget the other 10 candidates.
Their names are irrelevant.
This race draws national attention because of its national importance. A Rub win here could change the balance of the Senate. It would give the Tea Partiers a big win with their most mainstream candidate. It also could set the direction of Florida for years to come. If Rub wins, he’ll get 12 years in the Senate which he’ll parlay into eight years as governor and then a run for the White House. His unbridled ambition and no-moral-constraints policy positions make Marc Rub one dangerous hombre.
