Video: Metaphor of the day!

posted at 6:03 pm on October 15, 2010 by Allahpundit

Via Dvice, do I really need to explain this one? Not so long ago, my friends, the target seemed small and very far away. Reaching it felt impossible at that distance, especially with treacherous political winds swirling and threatening to blow us off course. And yet here we are, just 17 days away — and suddenly we’re close enough to see the X on the field. I think we’re going to make it. And so, apparently, do most Democratic insiders.

Truly stupendous video here. Don’t watch unless you have a cast-iron stomach, though.

RalphyBoy on October 15, 2010 at 6:11 PM

Well done. I’ve never sky dived, but now I feel like I have.

Awesome!

portlandon on October 15, 2010 at 6:12 PM

Awesome except he landed in Michigan. Go Buckeyes!

nazarioj001 on October 15, 2010 at 6:13 PM

Man that guy was working! It was cool to hear the crowd fade in at around the 2:40 mark.

Weight of Glory on October 15, 2010 at 6:13 PM

Why a cast iron stomach?

I’ve skydived, solo, not tandem. It was worth every cent.

Geministorm on October 15, 2010 at 6:14 PM

Awesome except he landed in Michigan. Go Buckeyes!

nazarioj001 on October 15, 2010 at 6:13 PM

Heh. Thanks for posting that ’cause my father-in-law is in town and he works for OSU! When I show him the video, he’ll chuckle at your comment. Of course he’ll also see this comment I’m writing and think his daughter married an idiot…

Weight of Glory on October 15, 2010 at 6:16 PM

Very cool to see Old Glory, too. :D

tkinTX on October 15, 2010 at 6:17 PM

Here is hoping IOWA will X Michigan tomorrow! Very cool video!

IowaWoman on October 15, 2010 at 6:18 PM

He was jumping alone..from probably 9K feet…

there aren’t any worries until you have a full combat load, in a C130…and its at night…and the plane is full of other paratroopers.

then, it’s okay to get just a bit nervous.

ok maybe not.

lorien1973 on October 15, 2010 at 6:33 PM

Certainly more hopeful than this classic HA video metaphor of the day when it was posted prior to yet another GOP clobbering a few years back.

IowaWoman on October 15, 2010 at 6:18 PM

I second that! But was a thrill to sail down to the ground, and to see Old Glory firmly held in his hand!!!

lovingmyUSA on October 15, 2010 at 6:38 PM

He was making me nervous the way he kept playing with the ropes and strings.

Yo mamma so fat, she think penguins and polar bears are on the same continent.

lorien1973 on October 15, 2010 at 6:56 PM

Considering a complete silence about polling in “safe” Dem held seats, it could be 100. Thought this is not likely, it is possible.

Kermit on October 15, 2010 at 6:56 PM

Yo mama so fat, she gotta carry a beeper in her back pocket so people know when she’s backing up.

Me too. Go Hawks. I’ll be watching the Hawks D-line do a number on “ShoeLaces” tomorrow.

HalSandro on October 15, 2010 at 7:00 PM

That is pretty awesome and makes quite a bigger impression in full screen mode.

silvernana on October 15, 2010 at 7:01 PM

Hail to the Victors.

Dragoonchris on October 15, 2010 at 7:17 PM

He opened his chute really early. I suppose that was to provide time to hang the flag.

A Navy Jumpmaster wouldn’t have fallen on the landing!

A Toledo Rocket wouldn’t have lost in Ann Arbor!

Go Navy! Beat Army!

Go Toledo!

Metaphor of the Day for Dems

Christien on October 15, 2010 at 7:40 PM

Michigan is like the Dems. Just highly offensive. Still, Iowa will get crushed unless their offense stays on the field most of the game… which they probably will because Michigan is like the Republicans, can’t even defend themselves.

NNtrancer on October 15, 2010 at 7:48 PM

Not bad – for a member of the pukin’ chickens!

LincolntheHun on October 15, 2010 at 7:48 PM

Awesome! But my tummy hurts, guess I’m a lightweight..

TN Mom on October 15, 2010 at 7:53 PM

I am near West Point. Army has been delivering the game ball that way to every home game for years. When they do it though, the American flag NEVER touches the ground the way that one did.

ted c on October 15, 2010 at 6:19 PM

The only thing better is doing it in a C-119. Every rivet in the old tin can is vibrating like little jackhammers, the ac is pitching and bucking, the noise is deafening. And then you’re out the door, enveloped in darkness and total silence.

Awesome.

I think MI is picked 35-28 in my paper anyway. I agree IA d line stops shoelaces, and Hawks win if Robinson stays healthy, wish Wegher had come back.

dhunter on October 15, 2010 at 9:23 PM

Pure win. That was incredible. Even mesmerizing. For a while all you here is the wind – when the crowd noise began to fade I got goosebumps. I was unsure of where he was to land until he was only seconds from the X. When he hit it I almost jumped out of my chair.

JimRich on October 15, 2010 at 10:42 PM

Damn!!!! Awesome!!!

I see what you mean about the strong stomach, though.

WaltzingMtilda on October 15, 2010 at 11:05 PM

The really exciting moments are the ones where he’s actually adjusting his chute to dump air to spiral and descend faster (otherwise this descent could have taken several more minutes)

That is truly dangerous unless you know what you are doing.

manofaiki on October 15, 2010 at 11:33 PM

I did not notice…which game was this? Was it last week when MSU crushed Michigan?

Go Green!

Goldenavatar on October 15, 2010 at 11:46 PM

Nittany Lion here – will be rooting for Iowa tomorrow, they trounced us last week, but they are a class act, fans, too. Also, here’s a shout-out to Wisconsin, Penn Staters love when we play them, wonderful fans and great attitudes all around. Can they do it tomorrow in Madison?

oldoldbabs on October 16, 2010 at 3:37 AM

Adrian Clayborn and Karl Klug are about to have themselves a Robinson sandwich. :-)

Hold on, now…it was the Fighting Illini that trounced you last week! Credit where credit is do… ;) And no wonder I won’t sky dive, I was ready to spew all over my monitor from watching that…..blech.

I remember that! Ends with one of the classic radio calls of all time (right up there with Jack Buck, Howard Cosell, Al Micheals, etc.): “I think I’m gonna throw up.”

Thanks for the reminder!
