Matthews to AFL-CIO chief: If those Chilean miners were tea partiers, they’d be dead

posted at 8:13 pm on October 13, 2010 by Allahpundit

Via the ‘Busters, this is one of those clips that’s so immensely stupid, it’s actually confounding. Where to begin? Is he suggesting that tea partiers are so committed to the “every man for himself” ethos of individualism that they oppose on principle any form of mutually beneficial cooperation — especially between desperate miners or, say, U.S. troops trapped in a survival situation? Does he not get that the reason most conservatives want less government is because they believe that people’s lives will improve that way — i.e. that liberty is a means to the end of maximizing welfare, which sort of cuts against the “tea-party miners killing each other” scenario? Does he at least understand that small government does allow for some government, and that fiscal conservatism fully allows for charity for people in need — like, say, a few dozen men trapped in a hole half a mile down? What the hell is he talking about here?

The punchline: Given his past rhetoric about scabs, if there’s anyone you wouldn’t want to be trapped in a mine with, it’s Richard Trumka. Refuse to play by his rules and you might just get your head cracked open. As a corrective to this insanity, read this new op-ed from Daniel Henninger at the Journal. Exit quotation: “The rescue of the Chilean miners is a smashing victory for free-market capitalism.”

A couple of simple questions for Mr. Matthews:

If Tea Partiers are so consumed by an “every man for himself” philosophy, why are their gatherings typically so well-organized and why do they leave, say, the National Mall spotless?

If unions, on the other hand, are so dedicated to cooperation and respect for others, why did so many of their buses leave before the OneNation rally was over, leaving some speakers to speak to a few stragglers? And why did they trash the National Mall?

Just another piece of evidence proving liberalism is an incurable mental illness.

In order to WANT to be cured of any addiction, one must first hit rock bottom. But narcissism is a “disease” that only harms the people AROUND the “victim.”

Once liberals become addicted to using the productivity of other human beings to enhance their own self-esteem, the liberal himself never hits rock bottom until the society he lives in collapses. But by then, of course, it is always too late.

The only way liberals can survive is by constantly expanding the sphere of their collectivist endeavors. The typical hippie commune survives without new converts for a few months; a country the size of Russia has to expand its empire to survive for more than a few decades.

And yes, in the situation the miners were in, the average moonbat would stop singing “Kumbaya” and would convert from economic to corporal cannibalism within in a matter of hours.

Gotta blame MSNBC for keeping this assclown front and center.

If Democrats were in charge of the rescue then no expense would have been spared in hiring lawyers to sue the mining company and if there is any money left and get permission from the environmentalists, maybe a few shovels.
