Obama: GOP victory would mean “hand-to-hand combat” in Congress next year

posted at 6:59 pm on October 7, 2010 by Allahpundit

First Biden’s fantasizing about strangling people, now The One’s ready to affix bayonets. I wonder: Is this the pressure of looming electoral catastrophe getting to them? Or is it just … Rahm’s influence?

A Republican majority in Congress would mean “hand-to-hand combat” on Capitol Hill for the next two years, threatening policies Democrats have enacted to stabilize the economy, President Obama warned Wednesday…

Obama called into Baisden’s show, syndicated to 71 radio stations in 21 states, as part of his effort to rally core Democratic constituencies with less than four weeks before the election. Although his campaign itinerary is limited by sagging approval ratings in key states, Obama is making a more-targeted effort focused on supportive venues like Baisden’s show.

“Everybody in the barbershops, the beauty shops, and at work — everybody’s got to understand: This is a huge election,” he said. “If we turn out in strong numbers, then we will do fine. If we do not, if we are depressed and decide, well, you know, Barack’s not running right now, so I’m just going to stay home, then I’m going to have my hands full up here on Capitol Hill.”

This comes on the very day that CNN anchors are wondering aloud, on air, why Obama tries so darned hard to please Republicans. The punchline? Elsewhere in the LA Times, we learn that The One’s not preparing for hand-to-hand combat at all. On the contrary, he’s staffing up to do an end-around the Republican Congress next year by focusing on things he can accomplish purely through executive power. Quote:

So the best arena for Obama to execute his plans may be his own branch of government. That means more executive orders, more use of the bully pulpit, and more deployment of his ample regulatory powers and the wide-ranging rulemaking authority of his Cabinet members…

One area of likely administration action is climate change. Legislation curbing emissions that cause global warming is stalled in Congress. Such efforts have a goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions to 17% below 2005 levels over the next decade.

The Obama administration does not think it can achieve the same reductions through regulation alone. Nonetheless, the Environmental Protection Agency is determined to use its regulatory power under the Clean Air Act to begin lowering emissions, in the absence of congressional action.

“Hundreds” of new financial regulations are also on the menu, and I can think of at least one other area where he might consider some “creative” executive rulemaking to pander to a prized constituency ahead of 2012. Remember, too, that he’s already got a track record for throwing bones to his base on cultural issues via executive orders whenever he needs to goose them a little. I wonder what he’s got planned to get them buzzing ahead of the next election. Maybe something … special?

The more that Obama talks the more he shows who he really is. He is nothing more than a violent marxist, however, I don’t think the man has even been in a fight. He uses other people like ACORN, SIEU, New Black Panthers and even his wife, Michelle to fight his battles. As gdonovan said in his post- “The GOP has been playing nice guy for far too long, the liberals need to be utterly crushed with out mercy”. This man is the American version of Robert Magabe of Zimbabwe. Obama like Magabe got control of once was a thriving Country and destroyed it. Both men have the same thought processes.

Mr. Obama is pooping in his own nest. Soon it will propel him earthward. There is only a certain amount of “substance’ that even a large nest can hold. We must resist but not fear. This guy is on the ropes one way or another.

Mason on October 7, 2010 at 8:57 PM

That means that we are going to have just hand-to-hand combat up here on Capitol Hill.

No. Democrats mavericks will reach across the aisle in a spirit of civility and the New York Times will applaud them. /s

a fellow grassroots supporter has promised to match, dollar for dollar, whatever you can chip in today. . . Skandia Recluse, 7:25

So, do you think Obama’s mysterious “grassroots supporter” is a billionaire like Soros with his minions, an untraceable foreigner (like in the presidential election) or somebody pressured to donate by their union? Any other guesses?

a few words for Mr. Hand to Hand (AKA THE DOTUS).

First two words: NOVEMBER SECOND

Next word: TEANAMI

Final two words: KEEP TALKING. :-)

p.s.
I think this is what Beck has been talking about when he says “they’re going to poke you, provoke you, try to get you to hit back“. Like when the Pelosi carried the giant gavel across the Capitol thru the Tax protestors hoping, just hoping they would do something that they could get on video.

as for me?……………I’m going to be smiling all the way to the voting booth when I cast every vote I can against ANY AND ALL DEMOCRATS…….Listen closely Madam Pelosi you’ll be able to hear us on 11/2. :-)

unclesmrgol on October 7, 2010 at 10:19 PM

Obama is getting ready to don the mantle of “The Little People’s Champion.” When the Republicans gain control of Congress he’s going to expect them to fix the financial mess he created. Once the economy comes back, he’ll then take credit for that AND credit for defending the little people from the Republican’s “real” plans. (To eliminate whatever is left of the Federal budget) So it’s going to be a win-win-win situation for him. He wins by getting someone else to clean up his mess. He wins by deflecting the pain caused by his mess onto someone else. And he wins by fighting the evil, extremist Republicans.

In addition, Obama always did best when getting people to believe he would deliver “Hope and Change” sometime in the future. He hasn’t done so well actually delivering “Hope and Change” when the American people gave him the power to do so. But when the Republicans gain control of Congress, Obama is free to return to promising “Hope and Change” in the future. That is, post-2012.

Morbidity is a stabilized state, but hardly a condition that individuals or an economy aspire to attain or preserve.

Ooh little Barry wants to fight. Allen West will stomp a mud hole in his back side but wait! Let Christine O’Donnell or Sharon Angle have him. Quite a cat fight. Sharon or Christine punching, Barry screaming, crying, blindly slapping at the air.
You can’t blame him for wanting to work up a war. He’s probably finally beginning to realize tyrants go to prison in this country.

o is a preppy bully, screaming the lyrics by Tom Lehrer,”fight fiercly fight, fight, fight , fight.
Fight Fiercely Harvard

Fight fiercely, Harvard,
fight, fight, fight!
Demonstrate to them our skill.
Albeit they possess the might,
Nonetheless we have the will.
How we shall celebrate our victory,
We shall invite the whole team up for tea
(How jolly!)
Hurl that spheroid down the field, and
Fight, fight, fight!

Fight fiercely, Harvard,
fight, fight, fight!
Impress them with our prowess, do!
Oh, fellows, do not let the crimson down,
Be of stout heart and true.
Come on, chaps, fight for Harvard’s glorious name,
Won’t it be peachy if we win the game?
(Oh, goody!)
Let’s try not to injure them, but
Fight, fight, fight!
And do fight fiercely!
Fight, fight, fight!

Very unprofessional language from the President. One more illustration of his lack of fitness to hold the position.

dogsoldier on October 8, 2010 at 10:56 AM

OK. From the Const:
The executive Power shall be vested in a President of the United States of America.

&

Section 3 – State of the Union, Convening Congress

He shall from time to time give to the Congress Information of the State of the Union, and recommend to their Consideration such Measures as he shall judge necessary and expedient; he may, on extraordinary Occasions, convene both Houses, or either of them, and in Case of Disagreement between them, with Respect to the Time of Adjournment, he may adjourn them to such Time as he shall think proper; he shall receive Ambassadors and other public Ministers; he shall take Care that the Laws be faithfully executed, and shall Commission all the Officers of the United States.

I assume that this is where Presidents think their power of the executive order comes from.
But he cannot just usurp the power of Congress, like when they approrpiate $$ for things.
I thought the SCOTUS ruled the POTUS cannot do that, i.e. like Jefferson did when he was POTUS or when FDR tried to do it defiantly by not spending $$ in the 1st place.
The POTUS is a leader, but he doesn’t call all the shots.
He works in partnership with Congress, who are supposed to be controlled by their electorate.
Something needs to be done to get rid of these executive orders.
This is a blatant power grab.

now The One’s ready to affix bayonets

If you have to affix bayonets, it’s not hand-to-hand combat, which is unarmed.

Hand-to-hand combat (sometimes abbreviated as HTH or H2H) is a generic term often referring to weaponless fighting conducted from a military based point of view.

Congress needs to revoke the regulatory authority.

Do it! That should be Phase I of the job of pruning our obscenely obese federal government: Revoking the regulatory authority of every agency except Congress.

That’s harsh talk for a wuss like Obama. He’s just stirring up his union thugs.

MCGIRV on October 8, 2010 at 1:44 PM

By the numbers:

1 – He’s so about himself at this point, and his Democratic allies are just cannon fodder for his cause.

2 – I would welcome a hand-to-hand combat match up between him and Palin in 2012. If not politically, we already know who would literally come out on top in the real world.

3 – A day of gridlock is a day of liberties preserved, free from the molestation of Federal government intrusion.

4 – If the current political landscape is more or less the same in two years, I see the GOP gaining even more seats and the White House, assuming that they govern like they promised.

I can so see November from my window! ;-)

itzWicks on October 8, 2010 at 3:05 PM

Aside from the damage it will do to the country one could almost plead with Obama to go ahead and do all this. It will keep the Tea Party alive and active, it will keep the conservatives of all stripes keyed up and ready to vote, and the results will damage the liberal-progressive ideal badly enough it may not be a serious issue for 30 to 50 years after 2012.
