Classy: Bachmann opponent spot uses bleeped curse word

posted at 5:05 pm on October 5, 2010 by Ed Morrissey

Tarryl Clark appears to have run out of ideas in her race against Michele Bachmann in Minnesota’s 6th CD — and also reached the end of her vocabulary.  In an effort to paint Bachmann as disconnected from her constituents, Clark runs through a variety of issues in which Bachmann’s vote actually seems closer to the consensus of the electorate, including on ObamaCare, to which Clark euphemistically refers as “reform.”  At the end, though, Clark just skips the euphemisms altogether to use a bleeped-out scatalogical curse word (via Cubachi and Liberty Pundits):

“No one does more for special interests in Washington than Congresswoman Michele Bachmann,” the announcer for the ad begins. “She stood up for BP when no one else would. She has a 100% record when it comes to supporting Wall Street. She even stood with the big insurance companies and voted against reform.”

“Michele Bachmann: not doing s*** for the people of the 6th District, but doing more than her share for the special interests in Washington.”

I’m actually being slightly unfair to Al Franken in the subheader.  While Franken is known for his short temper and angry outbursts, he managed to control himself while on the campaign trail for the US Senate.  And this isn’t a heated, extemporaneous outburst, but a planned campaign strategy.

When people resort to expletives, it usually indicates the limit of their ability to communicate.  It’s either that, or a condescending attitude towards the voters in MN-06 and a misguided attempt to speak at what Clark assumes is their level.  Whatever prompted this, it’s a classless and empty-headed effort, which reflects much more on Clark and the team she would bring to Washington than it ever could on Bachmann.

Blowback

Clark seems to be going the Grayson route. Let’s see if she leeches off a lot of money from competitive races to throw down a rathole in a vain attempt to beat Bachmann.

Doesn’t that just sound so nice?

Yeah, no s***. Clark really f***** up on this one…

joejm65 on October 5, 2010 at 5:11 PM

You know we’re getting to the point where some Democratic candidate is going to demand that local TV stations air their unbleeped ad attacking their Republican opponent during a future election cycle, given how howling mad the left is that they didn’t get everything they thought they would after the 2008 election (and IIRC, there’s no way for a station not to run it, other than to put a disclaimer at the start of the ad).

jon1979 on October 5, 2010 at 5:13 PM

“Michele Bachmann: not doing s*** for the people of the 6th District,

That is a fact, Michele has helped rid the state and her district of the s*** that seems so ingrained in the democratic party.

Hog Wild on October 5, 2010 at 5:23 PM

I have to admit it is a harde charge for Bachmann to answer.

What is she going to do run an “I’m not a *$&%*# ad?

Wow. As a resident of the 6th District of MN, I can say authoritatively that Tarryl Clark has dreadfully misread the maturity of the electorate.

I guess Clark will have to rely on her good looks alone:

They do that on daily basis – they think its their right to destroy this nation’s moral code – ‘Reform’ it, you might say.

Jerome Horwitz on October 5, 2010 at 5:11 PM

Actually, you just proved the point. Although I often disagree with AnninCA, I have never read that she has used someones name as a derogotory expletive. I think she must have much more class and vocabulary than you.

The big lie. If big pharma didn’t want this bill it would most likely have been killed. But they saw mandated enrollment as $$$$, and they knew they could just charge more for mandated benefits. All win in their books.

I’m guessing you weren’t around when HA’s favorite poster dropped the F bomb………ah, good times indeed.

Thanks huskerdiva for getting my back.

Jerome Horwitz on October 5, 2010 at 6:20 PM

My time goes back a long way. I’ve been around HA for a long time, while Ed did CQ. I came over from CQ, when he did. With some of the commenters I have read, that is a major undertaking. I was only commenting on using someone’s name or handle as an expletive when writing about politicians, talking heads, etc., slipping or deliberately using expletives. Don’t criticize others use if you are going to do it yourself.

And for the rest of you, I am savvy enough to know that your uses on this thread’s context are humorous, sarc, ironic, one-ups-man-ship. No complaints about that.

Note: from my years in the Army, steel mills, boiler shops, aircraft assembly, and cow punching, I suspect I can out-cuss anyone here in several languages – I just don’t.

Old Country Boy on October 5, 2010 at 6:39 PM

Nazi Pelousy is already doing too much $#!+. Michele Bachmann is trying to clean it up. Tarryl Clark wants to help pile up even more $#!+.

The Monster on October 5, 2010 at 6:47 PM

I’m stunned by that ad, Ed. Minnesota is not New York, where the M-F__ers and C___S___ers fly left and right. I can’t see how this is going to work any better than Grayson’s hit piece did once the ad went viral. I hope that Congressman Bachmann got a good laugh.

I hope Maddy reads this. Apparently I’ve pushed him to the limit of his ability to communicate more than once.
