Video: The dumbest, most self-defeating ad campaign ever
posted at 3:35 pm on October 1, 2010 by Ed Morrissey
And how do we know that it’s about as disastrous an ad campaign since, er … Alan Grayson’s “Taliban Dan” spot? Unlike the clueless and despicable Grayson, the people behind “10:10 – No Pressure” keep trying to get this spot removed from YouTube. As a precaution, I’ve included Stephen Gutowski’s Eyeblast upload to be sure it sticks around, and sticks to the AGW movement like bloody flesh after an explosion. (It’s also uploaded to my account.) If you want to see a demonstration of that, watch this appalling video that shows global-warming enforcers imagining the world they’d like to create, but beware that it includes some disturbing — and disturbed — images:
What makes this fascinating is that the people who produce this dreck have no clue as to just how far removed they have become from normal human sensibilities, or at least they didn’t until the video began provoking the fully-predictable reaction. They have become so wrapped up in Gaia that they seem to have little connection to humanity.
The other, mainly unrelated point that comes to mind is that this represents a reductio ad absurdum of the view from the hard Left about how dissent gets treated by the mainstream American populace, vis-a-vis the Iraq war especially. Can you imagine the reaction had an organization like Move America Forward produced a video like this, where those who didn’t support a robust strategy for the war on terror were blown up by a button-pushing advocate for the strategy? Especially children in a classroom being terrorized by their teacher into compliance with the groupthink?
James Delingpole says that “eco-fascism jumps the shark”:
I predicted this morning that No Pressure – Richard Curtis’s spectacularly ill-judged eco-propaganda movie for the 10:10 campaign – would prove a disastrous own goal for the green movement.
But what I could never have imagined was how quickly public disgust – even among greenies – would reach such a pitch that the campaigners would be compelled to withdraw it from the internet. …
Unfortunately their efforts are being frustrated by people on the sceptical side of the climate debate, who keep peskily insisting on reposting the video where everyone can view it. And rightly so. With No Pressure, the environmental movement has revealed the snarling, wicked, homicidal misanthropy beneath its cloak of gentle, bunny-hugging righteousness.
The Anchoress writes that C. S. Lewis has been proven correct yet again:
“Of all tyrannies, a tyranny exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It may be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron’s cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end, for they do so with the approval of their consciences.” –C.S. Lewis
Instapundit has even more.
Update (AP): Here’s the group’s “sorry if you were offended” apology. I’m surprised they didn’t plead satire and claim they were actually trying to parody the way greens are perceived by the public. E.g., “See, the joke is that some of you really do think we’re this fanatic.” But no — they are that fanatic, at least insofar as they’re suggesting climate-change skeptics are burdens to society whom we need to rid ourselves of. The “joke” is simply the exterminationist way in which the undesirables are dealt with. It’s black humor! Get it? Like Matt Welch says, stunning.

My post got eaten, since I used the word “rev 0 lution” in regards to Communism. Oh, well…
Heed my words. This is why I am a social conservative, my friend – the socialist obsession with redistribution of wealth is not my primary focus, though it is a point of deep concern. My primary worry is the Left’s obsession with death.
Mark this well. What you have seen in that video is the Left’s desire for the future of the next generation. Their methods may vary, they may not even be as grotesque – or, alternatively, they might be even more hellish – but these people walk among us, and they wish to direct our futures for the sake of their various pet causes.
Already they’ve had their way with fifty million infants since 1973. They will only become more depraved and grasping as time goes on.
When you go to the polls in November, friends, remember this video. Remember that this is not isolated, and let no one tell you it is. For the Left’s goals to succeed, inevitably, it must come down to bloodshed. It must come down to rampant bloodshed. That is the stated end goal of Marxism and ‘environmental’ activism.
And remember this video, when next someone says to you that we must put aside social concerns in our voting. Let no one dissuade you.
It is long past time that we as a people awaken to the true nature of the conflicts we face today, be they Marxism, environmentalism, or Islamofascism.

You know, in nearly all cases I object to saying that Leftists are evil or want to destroy America. Be they socialists, people who have different ideas on foreign policy, or cultural libertines, I think they’re misguided, not misanthropic; they honestly, if incorrectly, want what they think is best for the nation and its people.
But the one group that I think are really and actually evil are the radical environmentalists. They hate and want to destroy not only America, but mankind. They want forced sterilization, re-education camps, a genuine eco-totalitarianism. It’s almost beyond belief, and it’s genuinely terrifying.

I wouldn’t call it black humor, but obscene humor. There’s no real element of subtlety to the humor or of exploring the vagaries of a vulgar subject. It’s nothing less than base promotion of mainstreaming the taboo of governmental sanction to murder people who disagree with those in power.
Dusty on October 1, 2010 at 4:46 PM
So did most members of the Soviet communist parties in China and Russia, and the National Socialist Party of Germany.
They too wanted what was best for their nation and their people. That is part of what makes them so dangerous.

They’re pro-death. They believe deep down that the best way to solve social problems is to have less of the ‘undesirable’ people in the society.
You can’t even say that they want to improve the lot of other living things. They want to kill all the livestock. Their policies would starve plants, which would starve herbivores, which would starve carnivores. And they support the death-dealing polar bear to the cute, innocent baby seal.

But it’s not enough to merely say to yourself you’re not going to buy Sony products: far more effective is to tell SONY you’re not going to buy their products (and all the other corporate sponsors, as well).
Inkblots on October 1, 2010 at 4:53 PM
Well said. Sadly, many of the people marching on the side of the Left will end up being victims of the Left if they succeed. Only the rulers end up thriving in a socialist state. And the list of rulers is MUCH shorter than their supporters would imagine. By the time they realize it, the rank-and-file are powerless to stop the rulers, because they’ve given up their right to choose or speak for themselves.
hawksruleva on October 1, 2010 at 4:55 PM
My guess: these people have convinced themselves that all the non-compliant, non-greens are killing them, so it is only self difference that they be killed first, before they can commit murder. I’m thinking anger management issues.

But I disagree that that quote is relevant to radical environmentalism. These people don’t want to rule “for the good of their victims,” because they see mankind as pollution and a disease. They want to rule to contain and cure the disease of humanity that is afflicting mother Gaia – for the destruction of their victims. Their desired tyranny wouldn’t be for the good of the common people, because these radicals honestly see the common people as pollution. So they’re far scarier than even Marxists.

Marxists still view individual classes as a disease – and exterminate them.
The eco-terrorists (or neo-Druids, I think Tom Clancy called them in Rainbow Six) are also out to exterminate classes as a disease. If you consume too much, you are evil and must be destroyed. They tie in with classist struggle because they view the resources used by the west as disproportionate. Note the resources they themselves use aren’t evil, because they’re for “the Greater Good”. But then again, many are members of the VHEMT.
Note the video didn’t go to Africa and blow up a village living in squalor and despoiling their meager resources.
Maybe a new term for these genocidal eco-terrorists should be used… Eco-daleks?

Those people are raving lunatics!
First, and foremost, we must get out of denial and recognize that Earth simply cannot support many billions of people
This planet might be able to support perhaps as many as half a billion people who could live a sustainable life in relative comfort. Human populations must be greatly diminished, and as quickly as possible to limit further environmental damage.
I do not bear any ill will toward humanity. However, I am convinced that the world WOULD clearly be much better off without so many of us.
Just check out the following shocking quotes from Thomas Ferguson, who formerly worked in the State Department Office of Population Affairs…..
“There is a single theme behind all our work–we must reduce population levels. Either governments do it our way, through nice clean methods, or they will get the kinds of mess that we have in El Salvador, or in Iran or in Beirut. Population is a political problem. Once population is out of control, it requires authoritarian government, even fascism, to reduce it….”
“Our program in El Salvador didn’t work. The infrastructure was not there to support it. There were just too goddamned many people…. To really reduce population, quickly, you have to pull all the males into the fighting and you have to kill significant numbers of fertile age females….”
“The quickest way to reduce population is through famine, like in Africa, or through disease like the Black Death….”

This commercial reminds me of a novel I once read about a “terribly overpopulated world” wherein a new subervirus somehow mutated. The main character stumbled upon a group of people that had engineered a vaccine against it, and thus was able to be vaccinated, as well as those she cared about/for. But alack and alas, there just wasn’t any way to vaccinate the whole world, so after the virus ran its 90% mortality rate course and reduced the human “blight” to a manageable level the book then started extolling the virtues of the lower population and blithely wrote off the 90% of humanity destroyed within weeks as a good, nay wonderful thing.
Truly revolting.
Clancy’s “Rainbow 6″ book also illustrates this evil viewpoint very well.

They don’t need ecoterrorist regimes to blow them up. Muslims do that themselves.
Joke aside, the Islamic world’s use of real violence is enough to get the Left to curtail free speech, to put women in burqas and to allow for stonings of women and execution of gays. The Left submits to Islam because Islam is the strong horse. Point being, the Left is terrified of actual physical violence. They only enjoy it when they have complete control.
The Left attacks their own country like a vile domestic partner. They know the Right/rest of the country won’t lay a beatdown on them, because the Right/rest of the country is actually civil – and is stronger than the Left, and has been taught not to hit those weaker than themselves. Islam has the ability to engage in barbarism, and the Left is terrified of that and will submit.
I know if I’m fighting against death-worshipping eco-daleks or the muj… well, the muj don’t actively want to exterminate humanity. (Well, except if you’re a jew… and even then there might be some “people of the book” compromise to be had – even if it’s horribly inequitable and involves jiziya.)
Short version:
Eco-dalek: Hey Iran, how about you join the 10/10 pledge?
Iran: F*ck you and die.
Eco-dalek: No pressure.
Iran: F*ck you and die. *presses button*
Besides, the only way ecoterrorists like this can go on is if we tolerate it. The problem is that we’re overcivilized and domesticated to the point that when we have a madman like Holdren in a position of power who advocates genocide, we don’t just deal with them. Whether because of self-delusion, believing that nothing like that can happen here, or some other idiotic illusion the left has inflicted on us, the man is in government and not in jail.
As bizarre as it sounds, we need HUAC. That’d be the most civilized way to deal with these kind of madmen. Except maybe make it the House Anti-Human Activities Committee.

It’s sick that anyone thought of this, put it together and put in on the Internet, thinking it was funny and worthwhile.

We don’t need to get rid of everyone, just eliminate “People Like John Stewart”. Once all those bigots are gone Rick Sanchez could then get his job back at CNN, Neo-nazis and Muslims will have a keg party, Palestinians could have a state and Eviro-nuts could hold it as a holiday. One more day for Gaia and we get Rich Sanchez back on CNN, win win!

I agree with you guys. Outrageous, isn’t it? To me it’s even more outrageous than the video, because there is no pretense about killing the people as a joke.

Radical Population Control and Eugenics Agenda of the Global Elite
Your excerpts were some of the worst ones, but there were so many to choose from.
How about the sterilizing people through the drinking water quote? And the compulsory abortion, like in China and some other countries. How about putting all of this under the control of the United Nations – “Planetary Regime?”
Or their motto: “May we live long and die out.”
And how about this quote from Margaret Sanger: “The most merciful thing that a family does to one of its infant members is to kill it.”
So you think the woman holding the picket sign was real? “Save the planet, kill yourself”

Oh wow. I only watched the first scene…..speechless. They are fascist sickos. What’s disturbing is that a bunch of people saw no problem with that narrative and their “apology” indicates they aren’t sorry sorry. That was despicable.

I saw a couple shows on EWTN about the Demographic Winter and Demographic Bomb. These were just clips. About how the actual problem for the world in not a population explosion, but just the opposite and it is more dire than we realize.
The West having fewer children is already causing problems. We will probably die out. Because we are almost at the point where it will be impossible to recover. Muslims will gain in population and will try to get rid of Christianity.
And part of the economic problems in the West (Europe and USA) are from the lower birth rate. Aging population and fewer young people to pay the costs. Watch the second video especially at the 1:22 point. (The S&P 500 and baby boom charts.) Fewer people having families, homes, buying the goods needed for those things.
It is not natural for a civilization not to have children.
If you ever see these shows on EWTN, watch them.

“The easiest way to eliminate poverty is to exterminate the poor”. That’s not a quote but it is a philosophy

Two, Ed, two. You are thinking too traditional now. Objective is to decrease humanity to zero. Therefore, two.
