Breaking: Rick Sanchez fired from CNN

posted at 6:44 pm on October 1, 2010 by Allahpundit

The formal announcement is shockingly brief — which, actually, speaks volumes.

Monday’s “Daily Show” should be a very special episode indeed, my friends.

CNN released this statement today:

“Rick Sanchez is no longer with the company. We thank Rick for his years of service and we wish him well.”

I assume everyone already knows why, but if you missed Ed’s post this morning, read it now. I figured they’d keep Sanchez off the air today and then roll him back out on Monday, formal apology in hand. Instead, nothing but a “kthxbai” press release and a pink slip. Wowza. He’ll be remembered as a uniter, bringing left and right together in shared amazement at his lunkheadedness. At least, though, we finally have an answer to the question of what it takes to disqualify you from working at CNN. It’s an awfully high bar, but darned if he didn’t clear it.

As for his next career move, his new book — entitled, believe it or not, “Conventional Idiocy” — is currently ranked #39,028 in Amazon sales, so I’m guessing that a sequel isn’t in the works. Fox News is a bad fit for him for obvious reasons, and as for MSNBC — well, let’s just say that I doubt Olby will be willing to let the following clip slide. Maybe he could catch on at … “The Daily Show”?

This MUST be a Jewish conspiracy against poor Rick Sanchez. What other reason could there be for CNN to fire this incredibly competent journalist!!

I blame Bush!

Aww man don’t you just hate it when this happens to a liberal?

I just went to Twitter because I knew Andy Levy would knock this one out of the park. He didn’t disappoint:

Only time I ever saw this overbearing idiot was when channel surfing for news on that tsunami fizzle. Who is this overbearing idiot? He can’t do simple math, and he’s rude about it. Found out it was this guy and saw that the opinion that he’s an overbearing idiot is fairly widely held.

curved space on October 1, 2010 at 7:49 PM

I thought he stepped way over the line late last month in a report where he was trying to downplay the violence on the border news. His show was strongly asserting a border agent shot himself rather than his story of being shot by an illegal trafficing drugs. I said a little prayer then in the dentist office where I was subjected to his nonsense that he be fired.

You’re all welcome. No, really! No thanks necessary.

hawkdriver on October 1, 2010 at 7:51 PM

Here is a man who has called Republican Conservatives, vile names and spread his venom over the air waves and he is cheered and praised. Calls a fellow liberal a bigot and now he is out of a job. No doubt, he will be on MSNBC with Keith & Chris. Maybe he could hire Gloria Allred and claim he was fired because he was Cuban. She is just as sleazy as he is and would probably take the case.

flintstone on October 1, 2010 at 7:51 PM

Fareed Zakaria believes the same things Sanchez does and then some, he just is so much more sophisticated practiced in the art of al-taqiyya about it.

Luka on October 1, 2010 at 7:53 PM

Actually, i think Sanchez was on MSNBC before moving to CNN, or am i wrong?

clearbluesky on October 1, 2010 at 7:07 PM

Yes you are wrong. Miami residents have always reported he was a local “interest” reported there who had the reputation as the Cuban Ted Baxter long before they laughed than CNN even hired him.

Marcus on October 1, 2010 at 7:12 PM

No, he was, i found it on wiki after i wrote that.

clearbluesky on October 1, 2010 at 7:53 PM

So they don’t fire him for the profoundly stupid and hateful things he has said over the years but when his anti-semitism becomes too obvious to hide they can him? Which will further fuel the conspiracy theorists spewing the hate speech against the J-E-W-S.

DANEgerus on October 1, 2010 at 7:59 PM

I really don’t understand all the inordinate attention paid to mice and fleas when there are alligators and sharks about. Is it some kind of diversion?

What Is ‘Shariah’?

Adherents to shariah are fundamentally and unalterably opposed to the survival of the Constitution of the United States. Shariah is based on the Quran, which Muslims believe is the “uncreated” word of Allah as dictated to the prophet Mohammed; hadiths, the sayings of Mohammed; and agreed interpretations by Islamic scholars. Shariah commands that Muslims carry out jihad indefinitely until the Dar al-Harb, or House of War, where shariah is not enforced, is brought under the domination of the Dar al Islam, or House of Islam (literally the House of Submission), where shariah is enforced.

Shariah commands both Islamic terrorism and pre-violent, “civilizational jihad” or “stealth jihad,” depending on necessity and circumstances. Those who work to insinuate shariah into the United States are conspiring to subvert and replace the Constitution, because under shariah, freedom of religion and other civil liberties enshrined in the Constitution – and the very concept of man-made law – are incompatible with Islam.

Any system of man-made law is considered illicit under shariah, where Allah and only Allah has provided the law.

This is not a radical concept in Islam, but a fundamental tenet of the faith. Shariah is held by mainstream Islamic authorities – not simply fringe extremist elements who have supposedly “hijacked” the religion – to be the perfect expression of divine will and justice. All Muslims, regardless of where they live, must submit to be governed by shariah, a cradle-to-grave “complete way of life” that mandates social, cultural, military, religious and political norms.

All those who didn’t see this coming, raise your hand.

…..

Yeah, didn’t think so.

There are some things that nobody can safely say without risking their employment status, as Mr.Sanchez just found out the hard way.

Is CAIR going to give Sanchez a Lifetime Achievement Award like they did Helen Thomas?

I think he’s a little too young for that. Maybe after he takes a job with Al Jazeera. Can’t see anybody else hiring him.

Hey Allah & Ed …

A wee thought just occurred to me … with Ken Jautz coming off of a noted and successful run at HLN just days ago and replacing an ousted Jon Klein, kinda makes sense that Jautz wouldn’t need much incentive to start swinging an axe around CNN to shake it up and put the whole place on notice.

So very bad timing for Ricky to have yet another bout of stupidity!

Good riddance Ricky – you were a pathetic excuse for a ‘journalist’ let alone, an anchor.

What got him on a Jon Stewart rant in the first place?

Dash on October 1, 2010 at 9:35 PM

I think the wiki article “clearbuesky” mentions above lays it out best. I always suspected Sanchez was pissed that CNN would have a prime-time slot open up and offer it to someone else other than him (That soon-to-be cancelled when it debuts “Spitzer/Parker” show). I can imagine Sanchez furious and the bosses telling him he “wasn’t ready” and he attributes it to being Hispanic as well as being thought of as a “joke”. And who uses him as a “joke” most often? Glenn Beck and Jon Stewart. Rick hates Glenn Beck – but Jon Stewart has to be more of a dagger through the heart for Rick because Stewart has ridiculed him, also in Sanchez’s mind ridiculed him only because he is Hispanic, and Sanchez just lashes out. I think Sanchez couldn’t care less anymore if he was fired.

Marcus on October 1, 2010 at 10:04 PM

As big a doofus as he is, CNN probably wanted to get rid of him anyway and this was enough of a reason to do it. Now, I’ll bet they don’t have to buy out his contract.

Want some ‘BIZARO WORLD’?
If you take a walk on over to huffpo comments AND democratic underground comments sections…you find TONS of people (debatable) saying that they think he’s going to end up at…are you ready for this?…. FOX NEWS.

And..that they have always thought Sanchez ‘was pretty conservative anyway’.

Is the left Crazy, or stupid?
(Answer: all of the above)

Handel on October 2, 2010 at 2:39 AM

Once again, my point is that liberals often hate each others’ identity group… Mexi against Jew, Muslims vs Catholics etc. We should be able to easily wedge these groups apart and destroy the Democrat party.

leftnomore on October 2, 2010 at 5:05 AM

Handel on October 2, 2010 at 2:39 AM

Sanchez fancies himself as a conservative so it is not that outlandish. His references to elites and some imaginary strata of society which is in control and keeping the masses down is not that far off the populist rhetoric which is currently in vogue in some quarters.

lexhamfox on October 2, 2010 at 5:06 AM

Dirty Sanchez.

koolbrease on October 2, 2010 at 5:22 AM

I just listened to the whole audio recording. Sure, Sanchez made it clear that he has a big chip on his shoulder and that he is a bit thin-skinned. But, this was a pretty good give-and-take conversation with interviewer Dominick, and both Dominick and Sanchez acknowledged being convinced by something the other said during the conversation. Sanchez made the point that many of us make about lefties and their ilk. That is, like-minded people (e.g., members of the “governing class,” which is defined however we want depending on the point we are making) tend to discount and demean the needs, arguments, and merits of everyone else. And while Sanchez is probably way off base calling Jon Stewart bigoted, I heard nothing wrong in the give-and-take about perceptions about the thinking of people in different ethnic groups. I’m a Jew, and I would love to take Sanchez on in a conversation about ethnicity at ease at any coffee shop. However, even though I disagreed with much of what Sanchez said, I Iwas not insulted by what Sanchez said,

Much tongue and cheek here. I didn’t get a chance to come back to the thread. I was actually hoping someone would have had a little more info on the piece he was doing about the shot border agent.

And I’m sort of floored by this notion that he was Conservative. I never heard a thing from him over at CNN that gave me the impression he even knew anyone who was Conservative.

hawkdriver on October 2, 2010 at 6:42 AM

Sanchez committed the most politically incorrect crime at a liberal institution. He questioned the victim status of Jews. The ultimate no-no. It really is the third rail. Saying anything about Christians will get your promoted. Saying anything about muslims will get you in hot water. Saying anything about Jews will get your fired.

Winner! Ha ha!

* * * * *

This event does, however, leave a significant void that must be filled — the title of the stupidest news-related personality on TV.

I would limit it to news-related individuals because of the abundance of people who manage to reveal their bona fides in that regard on a daily basis.

So, for example, I’d say that Sean Penn really doesn’t count, even though he is a confirmed moron, and one who often feels compelled to prove it by commenting on public affairs issues.

However, Whoopi Goldberg does count (but just marginally) because it is her job to comment on the events of the day.

I sense there will be a rush of eager wanna-be idiots who will try to stake a claim to the title formerly held by Sanchez!

My initial thought would be that Mika Brzezinski will try to nominate herself . . . but there are so many truly deserving candidates!

Trochilus on October 2, 2010 at 8:54 AM

Sanchez was a biased journalist who couldn’t stay classy if his career depended on it. And now, he gets to find out what its like to be on the outside looking in, again.
