Breaking: Rick Sanchez fired from CNN

posted at 6:44 pm on October 1, 2010 by Allahpundit

The formal announcement is shockingly brief — which, actually, speaks volumes.

Monday’s “Daily Show” should be a very special episode indeed, my friends.

CNN released this statement today:

“Rick Sanchez is no longer with the company. We thank Rick for his years of service and we wish him well.”

I assume everyone already knows why, but if you missed Ed’s post this morning, read it now. I figured they’d keep Sanchez off the air today and then roll him back out on Monday, formal apology in hand. Instead, nothing but a “kthxbai” press release and a pink slip. Wowza. He’ll be remembered as a uniter, bringing left and right together in shared amazement at his lunkheadedness. At least, though, we finally have an answer to the question of what it takes to disqualify you from working at CNN. It’s an awfully high bar, but darned if he didn’t clear it.

As for his next career move, his new book — entitled, believe it or not, “Conventional Idiocy” — is currently ranked #39,028 in Amazon sales, so I’m guessing that a sequel isn’t in the works. Fox News is a bad fit for him for obvious reasons, and as for MSNBC — well, let’s just say that I doubt Olby will be willing to let the following clip slide. Maybe he could catch on at … “The Daily Show”?

Rick Sanchez calls Jon “Stewart” Leibowitz a “bigot” and establishment liberal; says CNN is run by Jews http://tinyurl.com/2cnuhfu proving liberals are obsessed with race and are even divided among themselves by it. The next day Sanchez is fired by CNN http://tinyurl.com/37cgsr4 proving that liberals hate hispanics. :) November is coming.

This is telling how dumb he really is.

The title of his book is hilarious.

It used to be that anti-Catholicism was the anti-Semitism of the intellectuals.

Increasingly, anti-Semitism is the anti-Semitism of the intellectuals.

Realist on October 1, 2010 at 6:52 PM

Good riddance to bad garbage, but I am surprised that they fired him. I’m sure he’ll write some crazy “expose” of an anti-semitic type.

clnurnberg on October 1, 2010 at 6:52 PM

May you now know, what kind of crap you’ve helped to heap on the backs of Americans, Ricky. Standing in an unemployment line isn’t fun. Eek out whatever existence you can, because I don’t think there are a lot of news agencies out to hire your sorry arse.

Look on the bright side though. You now get to experience first hand….hope and change Obutthead style.

I hear Paducah’s public access channel has a weekend anchor opening.

stldave on October 1, 2010 at 6:55 PM

You know they will backfill him with another libnut.

CWforFreedom on October 1, 2010 at 6:55 PM

Killing someone didn’t disqualify him; rank stupidity didn’t disqualify him, so I’m somewhat surprised that this statement turned out to be too much for CNN. But, yay.

LASue on October 1, 2010 at 6:55 PM

I kinda feel bad for him now. He clearly isn’t a very bright guy. I’m confused as to how he got this far. It’s like watching the slow kid in class fall down. Even if he’s super annoying, there’s a small part that just wants to give him a hug.

Ampersand on October 1, 2010 at 6:56 PM

Silly me. I was thinking Geraldo would charge ahead to help Sanchez for the Hispanic cause, but then I remembered Gerry’s mum is Jewish.

Never mind. That would just make things worse, wouldn’t it?

Oh, dear. Drunk drivers won’t unite to help him, so I guess he’s on his own.

If a CNN anchor falls in the desert, does anyone hear the sound?
ddrintn on October 1, 2010 at 6:48 PM

If it’s on Fox and the Daily Show – which this will be – then the answer is yes.

I want to make sure everybody understands what a big freaking deal this is. Anchors aren’t hourly workers; they all have term contracts, with lots of protections. It’s like trying to fire a top professional athelete or talk show host. It is an incredibly difficult and expensive process, that usually takes place with lots of review and negotiation.

For CNN to respond this abruptly means they decided that they’re willing to pay whatever it costs in lawyers and/or severence penalties to get rid of this toxic asset.

If you’re too insane for CNN, where is there left to go? Perhaps Obama will appoint him to a high government post. That’s the only avenue left for guys like him. Maybe Rahm leaving wasn’t a coincidence.

You people make me sick, Rick Sanchez was only following the script Americans/Conservatives/Jews = Bad Muslims/Commies/Socialist = Good. What part of this do you people not understand. People like Stewart have just shot themselves in the feet by getting rid of the most talented/intelligent man in cable news. That bigot Stewart occasionally made people laugh while Rick Sanchez made people laugh without even trying, that is fact!

The people like Steward are acting like they got run over by some drunken lunatic. Rehire Rick Sanchez and bring back teh funny to cable news!
