Video: Hey, remember when Charlie Crist was a conservative?

posted at 6:05 pm on September 29, 2010 by Allahpundit

Why … no, actually. But I remember him saying he was a conservative. And so does Kendrick Meek, who’s rolling this spot out today to try to finish Crist off among Democrats in Florida. Nothing will get rid of the nasty aftertaste from that horrible Murkowski poll, but here’s a piece of candy to help you try: Not only is Rasmussen showing Rubio up by double digits this afternoon, but a brand new poll from CNN has almost identical numbers. In fact, the polls have been remarkably consistent over the past six weeks. Rubio’s settled in the low 40s, Crist at around 30, and Meek in the low 20s, with the independent’s decline entirely coincidental with the Democrat’s rise. Which is to say, the sun has begun to set on Sunshine Charlie. The only worry now is that he and Meek might make some sort of deal by which one drops out and endorses the other. Given the tenor of this spot, I’m guessing the guy who drops out isn’t going to be Kendrick Meek.

The best part of this spot, of course, is that it’s also sort of an ad for Rubio too. Any centrist Florida Republicans who are thinking of voting for Crist because he’s not a conservative but a “principled independent” are invited to watch carefully. Exit question: What if Murky pulls it out in Alaska but Crist goes down in flames in Florida, thus effectively ending his breathtakingly cynical, careerist bid for higher office? Will that ease the pain? A little?

Nice to see that, true to character, you have given up on Alaska already.

I remember when Crist was leading in Florida and you were crapping your pants, Allah.

Cheer up dude.

A little?

jsut a little so we don’t have to deal with him any longer…me hopes

If Linda Morkunski wins AK, nothing will help.

Miller and Rubio will both win.

El_Terrible on September 29, 2010 at 6:11 PM

Miller 38/Murkowski 36/McAdams 22 = CNN/Time polls suck!

Rubio 42/Crist 31/Meek 23 = CNN/Time poll good!

Mark1971 on September 29, 2010 at 6:11 PM

People like Charlie Crist make it very difficult for people to believe a single word that comes out of any politician’s mouth.

IronDioPriest on September 29, 2010 at 6:13 PM

WHAT exactly did the polls say the day before the Murkowsi-Miller primaries? As I recall she was way way way ahead. And she lost (SHOCKER!) Wasn’t that the story to begin with?

Marcus on September 29, 2010 at 6:15 PM

Perfect ad.

Kudos to the Meek team.

rickyricardo on September 29, 2010 at 6:15 PM

It’s not an election… it’s an IQ test for Alaskans and Floridians.

beatcanvas on September 29, 2010 at 6:17 PM

NOTHING will ease the pain of that Alaskan sore loser winning.

changer1701 on September 29, 2010 at 6:20 PM

Hey Allah!

Stop suggesting that Murkowski’s going to win. She isn’t. So stop your bedwetting.

Dave From Canada on September 29, 2010 at 6:21 PM

I’m in Floriduh, so Crist losing trumps Murky for me, but not by a lot. I’m thinking the Palins (plural) will work some GOTV magic in AK and bury Murky under a political glacier for a long time to come.

ornery_independent on September 29, 2010 at 6:35 PM

Will that ease the pain? A little?

No it won`t , Crist and Murkowski are one and the same, Cristowski. Both need to go down on Nov 2nd to Rubio and Miller!

Nice Try. Just what do you think you’re trying to pull here?

Crist has been toast for ages. This is like trying to tell me that the candy you gave me a few weeks ago makes up for the God-awful gooey pink stuff you’re trying to force down my throat now.

RINO in Name Only on September 29, 2010 at 6:46 PM

After all of Charlies crap these past months, I don’t see him dropping out. He’s going to stick it out til the bitter end, and probably try some suing, for recounts. He just can’t take NO for an answer!

We will be asking the same about Marco Rubio. You remember Mark: he campaigns in Spanish.

Oh stop it. That in itself isn’t a bad thing.

South Florida has a big Spanish speaking population, many are bilingual but some are not.

What matters is what he is saying, and whether he is being effective bringing the message everyone likes from him to these people who may not get the outreach from conservatives because of a language barrier, or difficulty.

Cuban immigrants are largely Super ProAmerica, given what they left behind. They regularly send Republicans to the House and had a Senator recently. Rubio will be 20 times better than that guy was.

He is a conservative, and a damn articulate one with a compelling story that makes you proud to have been born an American.

And just how fast is the Democratic Party imploding to yield such a thing?

And Crist is just the kind of 2-dollar streetwalker type politician who would jump at that sort of deal, as long as it was good for Charlie Crist.

Gator Country on September 29, 2010 at 9:30 PM

For what it’s worth, Crist’s political mailing this week was sort of an “Anyone but Rubio” thing, saying that Meek can’t beat Marco and someone’s got to stop Rubio from destroying Social Security.

Crist is spending a ton of money, but I guess it isn’t helping much.

drunyan8315 on September 29, 2010 at 10:56 PM

The Murkowski thing confirms what I’ve known for years… the electorate is squishy. I’ve been shocked to see some of my friends suddenly feign conservatism this year. These are people that either eschewed politics altogether or they adopted the cause of the moment (recycling, etc.).

But I know this, when the winds start to blow the other way, they will squish back. 2006 and 2008 proved that Americans generally have no idea what conservatism or leftism really is. How could anyone believe that Obama was going to be a centrist president? But they did… in droves.

I still have no idea how McCain won the nomination in 2008. My only explanation is that most people are squishes and don’t want to take a stand that will have people calling them names. As soon as the GOP stumbles just a little, that sound you will hear will be legs breaking from people jumping off the bandwagon.

This is also why I cringe at gotcha politics and “zany” or cutesy politics (see: Sean Hannity) because such things lack depth and their effects are temporary. Reagan EDUCATED America on conservative principles. Even in his mocking humor, he was making salient political points.

Not so long ago Charlie Crist was the toast of the GOP in FLA. Remember he could have won the endorsement if not this year then in 2012.

Now he is just toast with orange marmelade.

jpmn on September 30, 2010 at 9:19 AM

Florida resident here…CC is the worst sort of slimeball politician imaginable.

I remember how this libtard ran as a Republican on Jeb’s coattails.

I remember how he took a girlfriend –> fiance’ in order to ditch the rumor that he’s gay. After the election, dumped the girlfriend.

I remember him getting all chummy with RINO-McCain and basically sealing the deal for him in 2008.

I remember him getting all snuggly with Obambi.

Can anyone say, “over tanned”?

No ethics, no principles, will do anything to get into political power, used car salesman personality…is there ANYTHING to even like about this guy? I wouldn’t let this d-bag come in my house, let alone represent my state (if I could help it). Good riddance Charlie Priss, now get the hell out or retire to South Beach.
