Video: Fiorina slams “Senator Ma’am” in first TV spot

posted at 8:00 am on September 23, 2010 by Ed Morrissey

Carly Fiorina releases her first TV spot in the general election today, and takes aim at Barbara Boxer’s insistence on being called “Senator” in a rebuke during a military briefing from a general that C-SPAN caught. This might not have been a worthwhile campaign issue if Boxer had taken an opportunity in the first debate with Fiorina to apologize for her haughty tone. Instead, Boxer more or less doubled down on her snotty remark, giving Fiorina the opportunity to question Boxer’s priorities — and her altogether unearned attitude of entitlement:

Somehow, I think Boxer may ironically be left quoting another general, albeit a movie version of him, if she goes down to defeat in November. In the film Patton, after Patton discovers that he has been relieved of his command and denied the chance to lead the invasion of France, his personal attendant muses that it all came from “one measly slap.”  “Ah, George,” Patton replies, “I wish I would have kissed the SOB.”

Boxer needs her skinny ass kicked so hard out of the Capitol that she lands in the Anacostia, head first.

What a worthless, stupid, corrupt, incompetent, idiotic, arrogant, piece of absolute stinking, rotten garbage Barbara Boxer is.

Anyone who even slightly considers voting for this wingbag deserves to lose their right to vote for the next several lifetimes.

The ad should’ve cut back to the General for just a moment before cutting to Carly, just to reiterate and drive home the point of who Box-o-Rox was speaking to in such a haughty manner.

Boxer is a “been nowhere, done nothing” leftist that has done nothing but pander to California’s perversions as a means of serving her own selfish agendas.

rplat on September 23, 2010 at 8:26 AM

I think that’s a GREAT ad for a couple of reasons.

1) That Boxer moment is the gift that keeps on giving. Even if she did apologize properly (which she didn’t), that whole interaction with the general is the embodiment of what’s wrong in this country.

2) California has a very shallow electorate, attracted by shiny objects rather than any true substance. Fiorina looks very attractive, intelligent, calm and reassuring in that ad.

Put that ad in heavy rotation and it will be a huge winner for her.

I’ll bet Boxer still doesn’t understand that it is expected as respectful courtesy in the military to refer to any civilian as “sir” or “ma’am.”

I like the way Ms. Fiorina always seems to be able to smile when campaigning about Boxer’s antics. This is a pretty harsh ad, but she manages to deliver her message with a slightly bemused smile as if to say “isn’t Boxer ridiculous to take herself so seriously?”.

Carly needs to create an ad of the climate-change committee hearing in which Boxer condescendingly tried to take down the president of the Black Chamber of Commerce. The guy’s name was Alford and he was a businessman and a veteran. He tore her a new orifice. It was great.

changer1701 on September 23, 2010 at 9:08 AM

Get to the economics, somebody.

We need to start explaining in layman’s terms why big government and “tax the rich” do not work. The “ma’am” issue helps reveal some of the arrogance in DC, but it is secondary.

mankai on September 23, 2010 at 9:09 AM

OMG, you could cut the smug in that clip with a knife. I remember being appalled at the time of the ma’am incident, but watching this months later, her snottiness seems even riper.

juliesa on September 23, 2010 at 9:15 AM

Fiorina is boxing Boxer in. I heard Boxer is starting to attack her personally, which means she’s panicking.

Jeff on September 23, 2010 at 9:17 AM

Have been so royally p****** at Senator Ma’am since that dis of the general that I couldn’t be more delighted to see this ad. And I still intend to write her a letter mocking her little arrogant demand when and if, God willing, she loses.

inviolet on September 23, 2010 at 9:17 AM

The dirty lil secret with Ca. Democrats; they’re all telling themselves not to vote for any incumbents. This is how they are justifying voting (R) rather than (D) in this cycle.

Carly Fiorina releases her first TV spot in the general election today,

Fiorina won her primary back in June, and has gobs of money, and waited until NOW to release her first TV spot for the general election?

Fiorina is down slightly in the polls: -4 in Rasmussen, -3.5 in the RCP average. Hope she didn’t wait too long, since 4% in CA is about half a million votes to sway!

N. O'Brain on September 23, 2010 at 9:55 AM

Carly looks good. Her hair looks great. Her skin smooth and fresh. She looks happy and optimistic. Boxer looks tired, worn and cranky. The verbal message is good, but the non verbals also paint a picture that is favorable to Carly and not to Barb. It is a well done ad on many levels.

This would be so much better if, for contrast, they showed video of Boxer welcoming Mr. Vice President Gore at his “global warming” hearing in 2007.

Except no TV station would run it, ’cause it’s essentially porn.

She will never let the ‘senator’ title go. Even as an ex-senator she will insist on being addressed as ‘Senator Boxer’, which is technically correct, but I see her forcing it on everyone from the pool-boy to her own children.
