Breaking: Obama now feeling America’s pain

posted at 10:02 pm on September 13, 2010 by Allahpundit

Via JWF, this is where it all starts to turn around, my friends.

This is where the healing begins.

President Obama told a small crowd in Fairfax, Va., on Monday that he would stand in the hot sun with them and “feel their pain.”…

Unlike former President Clinton, who famously felt the pain of voters during a recession, Obama has not connected emotionally with voters over their worries and fears…

“The problem is he doesn’t seem like he’s always trying to be empathetic,” said one Democratic strategist.

“They have been missing the need for the emotional connection people need in times like this — but they’ve needed it for two years,” another Democratic strategist said…

Obama’s professorial style was on display during the backyard discussion, as he ticked off the list of things he has done to help the middle class. He talked about his administration’s support for Wall Street reform, as well as his support for middle-class tax cuts.

Professorial Obama didn’t work, and “feisty” Obama seemed vaguely absurd thanks to his heavy reliance on slurpee jokes and car metaphors, so here’s the latest incarnation. The good news: Now that he’s morphing into Clinton before our very eyes, does this mean he’s ready to tack right when the GOP takes back the House? The bad news: Do we … really want to watch this guy emote over the next eight weeks? Two of the key components of that “first-class temperament” we heard so much about during Election ’08 were his cool, unflappable demeanor and the above-the-fray messianism that made no problem seem too large or difficult. Not only was Zeus going to throw thunderbolts at the economy until it perked up, he wasn’t even going to break a sweat while doing it. Now, suddenly, he’s quoting lines from a predecessor made famous by clammy expressions of empathy; if not for the fact that Clinton vet Rahm Emanuel is on his way out, I’d half-expect lip-biting and tearing up to begin before the end of the year.

Note, please, that once again they’re tweaking the “messaging” here rather than policy. I guess the deeper Clintonian lesson will come in due time. Exit question: Is it really that The One is having trouble relating to Americans? Or is it that we’re all simply too insane to appreciate him?

Update: Actually, I think the pain-feeling won’t begin in earnest until next week. This week he’s got a lot of parties to go to.

He still doesn’t get it.

He’s THE CAUSE of that pain.

He is not feeling any pain, nor will he ever!!!

President’s Carter and Bush wish they had a second term, but do you think they REALLY feel any pain?

I would put the life as an ex-President, whether that is for 4 years or 8 years as pretty high on the list of the good life.

Good grief. I’m in southern Virginia, and the high today was something like 83. Oh, the suffering! Especially for a doofus who keeps the Oval Office at 80+ degrees in the winter.

He can’t. A narcissist is unable to empathize. He can try to act like he’s empathizing, but it will come across as cold platitudes with no meaning. In other words, exactly the same as it’s been since he’s been in office.

Do we … really want to watch this guy emote over the next eight weeks?

Now there is a thought to lose your lunch over.

Next he will be crying like Beck…

Obama wrote a patriot children’s book… That is an attempt to change his image… yeah I bet he wrote it all by his little lonesome.

Janet Neapolitan wrote a children’s book just before her second campaign. It was about Javelina… a very Arizona book… they gave it to all the school children. My daughter had to use it for a report on Arizona animals.

How much you want to bet that’s next? How can you say he hates America… he wrote a book. Indoctrination!

Of course, by “Wall Street reform” he means permanent bailouts to his largest contributors, and by “middle class tax cuts” he means raising taxes on everyone because of the pathological inability to cut spending, even after a record-setting binge on other people’s money.

Eventually, it becomes easy to understand Obamese.

I am waiting for Obama to channel his inner whiteness, you know its coming given he is bleeding white voters.

Professorial Obama didn’t work, and “feisty” Obama seemed vaguely absurd thanks to his heavy reliance on slurpee jokes and car metaphors

He wasn’t clever enough to pull either off, and the problem was, he did not have to be clever. He merely had to be sincere, and fair minded. It is hard to pretend to love something

I hope he doesn’t try to pull a Clinton, because Clinton, Bill is the gold standard. Clinton, Bill’s continuing appeal is based upon a suspicion that deep inside is something real. He has disarmed many enemies who advanced expecting a hollow shell, and were mesmerized by blue eyes emoting empathy.

Clinton, Bill blew it with cheesey lies. A couple were last resort lies when cornered by facts. Others were unnecessary. He didn’t have to have gun runners in the WH, to get donations. well, maybe he did, considering the Chinese connections, but he tarnished his charm with weak moment outbursts like the ‘I don’t have a truth detector’ episode.

Obama let Clinton,Bill out of the doghouse and that might have been a mistake, because Clinton, Bill is now schmoozing America and making Obama look like an half thawed frozen fish stick

Clinton, Bill would rail on his enemies because they were hurting him. Obama rails on his enemies like he wants to hurt them

This is just getting sad. PrezBo will never feel our pain because he is incapable of just that, feeling. He is the most disconnected President in American history. The MSM used to give Bush crap for going to Crawford and working on the ranch, it was probably therapeutic to him. Obama has never worked a real day in his life. A calloused hand should be a requirement to hold the Presidential Office.

ted c on September 14, 2010 at 6:10 AM

Exit question: Is it really that The One is having trouble relating to Americans? Or is it that we’re all simply too insane to appreciate him?

oh yeah, I’m certain that any of his troubles should be projected upon me—for he is the 0ne upon whom we can project our dreams and wishes–and we are the ones upon whom he can direct all sin, shame and blame.

what a deal.

ted c on September 14, 2010 at 6:17 AM

Obama “may” begin to feel America’s pain when he is unemployed, unable to get a job, has a mountain of bills to pay, maxed out on credit, and sees the dreams he had for his kids set aside as survival mode kicks in…no frills, no extras.

Then, perhaps, if he has a conscience, maybe, he will realize that living in Obama’s world as President has no connection to the real world outside.

But, it being Obama, the perpetual narcissist, he’ll probably never feel anyone’s pain.

So…this feeling the people’s pain thing is nothing but a calculated campaign trick to garner votes from the masses who are not paying attention. Sad that a President has to descend to these sort of tactics nearly two years after being elected. Campaign’s over. Somebody tell Obama that now he is in charge. It is all on his shoulders.

tarpon on September 14, 2010 at 7:28 AM

He’ll ‘feel our pain’ and then tell us to put another sweater on this winter after he turns the temperature up at the White House… Obama doesn’t know how to ‘pivot’ and he failed geometry so triangulation is deemed beneath him.

He was supposed to ‘pivot’ on the economy in JAN 2010 and on jobs in MAR 2009… yet everything he has done demonstrates that he not only did not ‘pivot’ to any rational outlook but went into Stuck On Stupid in Overdrive.

To ‘triangulate’ takes political skill honed over years plus good advisors who you listen to when things go wrong, not yes-men who keep on giving you the same old tired remedies that make things worse. Clinton had Dick Morris, who would finally be banished by Hillary because he was a good friend of Bill’s, he listened to him and he had the audacity of being right. Show me that figure for Obama: the trusted member who dares speak outside the talking points and can just take him aside and tell him he is just WRONG about what he is doing. Because he has no one like that who can do that for him… although his daughter asking him why he can’t plug the hole comes close, but she is an apparent neophyte politically.

Spare me the Clinton reverbs until you can demonstrate how the man has any of the skills, capabilities and trusted advisors who can tell him he has screwed up, big time. Without any of those you won’t get Obama ‘triangulating’ and ‘tacking to the right’ and it will always, without fail, be about Obama not about doing the right thing for the Nation.

I’m more angry at the foolish people who voted for him and should have known better. Obama had written 2 books that told us what we needed to know to reject him. His scant career (voting “present”, Chicago background, Rev. Wright, Bill Ayers, etc.) was the icing on the cake. I’m not mad at him, per se, but at the MSM who refused the dig a little deeper, and the voters who wanted to be part of “history” by voting for our first “black” president.

ButterflyDragon on September 14, 2010 at 1:25 AM

Completely agree, but it will be strangely fascinating to see a narcissist actually try to demonstrate empathy. They must be quite desperate to even go to that point. The best I can imagine is ‘I am sorry you feel that way. It must be awful to be you.’ subtext: ‘thank god I’m not, and am my great shining fascinating glorious self. All is right with the world.’ snort.

Obama is an America hating, pro-Islamic, socialist economic imbecile.

There really isn’t anything else to say about him; no matter what he pulls he is still the one-dimensional one-trick pony.

However, for me there is no reconciling with the millions of people who voted for him. America is 52% idiots, and I have to say its the first time in my life I have thought so.

ted c on September 14, 2010 at 6:17 AM

ted c, you really get what ‘relationship’ with a narcissist is all about. If he runs the game, he always wins and everybody else always loses. Always. And we are all stuck in his little crazy box of surreal effed up disaster. The only way to go, therefore, is to run the game (tip the board, change context, shake up the pieces, don’t let him set the rules etc.), and cut off all his tricks and deceptions and call BS on every move – to harry him and thwart him. Can the republicans manage that? Umm… prolly not, but since foreign leaders, and reality itself (which is not about him, after all) cannot be run by him, that’s advantageous. Poor judgment and perverse instincts are always working against him too.

But what to do about those who volunteer to be faithful suckers? Wish I knew.

perries on September 14, 2010 at 8:43 AM

Also, notice that even when they are admitting he “can’t connect” (which is all they will admit too, not that his policies are failures or that he is unpopular b/c of his policies) – even when admitting he “can’t connect” they have to throw in their implication that he was some kind of big-time “professor”. His “professorial style”.

He was an adjunct. Anyone can be hired as an adjunct. He was never a professor. Not that I have that much respect for professors in the first place, but please. The guy was never a professor.

Monkeytoe on September 14, 2010 at 8:44 AM

Some Democratic strategists welcome the White House move to try to put Obama in situations where he can connect with voters. They say the problem isn’t Obama. It’s a White House that hasn’t made good use of the president.

Aww, we need to fix that. WH needs the action-figure Obama. Just wind him up, put him in some Middle American Backyard, and watch him go! I feel your pain….I feel your pain….I feel your pain….Bush’s fault….Bush’s fault…..Bush’s fault…Shlurpee….Shlurpee….Shlurpee…Dog….Dog…Dog….” Thud…oops, runs into brick wall

ziggyville on September 14, 2010 at 9:04 AM

“…first-class temperament” we heard so much about during Election ’08 were his cool, unflappable demeanor and the above-the-fray messianism that made no problem seem too large or difficult.

Funny how cold and calculating is so easily misinterpreted.

Extrafishy on September 14, 2010 at 9:12 AM

“The problem is he doesn’t seem like he’s always trying to be empathetic,” said one Democratic strategist.

The problem is that he doesn’t “seem” like he’s “trying” to be empathetic. It doesn’t matter whether he is or not, just what role he’s playing for the cameras.
He’s one of the major causes of the pain that America’s in right now. Along with every self-serving hypocrite in Congress that’s voted in the laws and regulations that are running this country into the ground.

Obama is incapable of feeling anyone’s pain but his own; he’s a narcissistic personality disorder. But Dems might be able to empathize a little better, since a lot of them on Capitol Hill will actually lose their jobs by the end of this year.
