Obamateurism of the Day

posted at 8:05 am on September 10, 2010 by Ed Morrissey

Barack Obama delivered a major speech on the economy this week, and Hot Air readers can be forgiven if it sounded familiar to them — and not just for its regurgitated Porkulus II policy, either. Jim Geraghty discovered that Obama seems to have taken recycling to a new level:

Obama, yesterday:

So, that’s why, Milwaukee, today, I am announcing a new plan for rebuilding and modernizing America’s roads and rails and runways for the long term. (Applause.) I want America to have the best infrastructure in the world. We used to have the bestinfrastructure in the world. We can have it again. We are going to make it happen. (Applause.)

Over the next six years, over the next six years, we are going to rebuild 150,000 miles of our roads — that’s enough to circle the world six times. That’s a lot of road. We’re going to lay and maintain 4,000 miles of our railways –- enough to stretch coast to coast. We’re going to restore 150 miles of runways. And we’re going to advance a next-generation air-traffic control system to reduce travel time and delays for American travelers. (Applause.) I think everybody can agree on that.

Obama, February 6, 2009:

But broadly speaking, the package is the right size, it has the right scope and it has the right priorities: To create 3 to 4 million jobs and to do it in a way that lays the groundwork for long term growth, by fixing our schools; modernizing health care to lower costs;repairing our roads, bridges, levees, and other vital infrastructure; move us toward energy independence.

Obama, February 17, 2009:

Starting today, our administration will be working day and night to provide more aid for the unemployed, create immediate jobs building our roads and our bridges, make long-term investments in a smarter energy grid, and so much more.

Obama, April 13, 2009:

We passed the recovery plan less than two months ago. Two weeks later, I came here to DOT to announce that we would be investing $28 billion to rebuild and repair our highways, roads and bridges.

Obama, April 29, 2009:

Across the state, roughly 20,000 transportation jobs will be supported by the Recovery Act so that Missourians rebuilding your roads, your bridges, your rails.

At least this time Obama threw in a new wrinkle with runway restoration.  Unless he’s looking to create supermodel jobs, it’s difficult to grasp how resurfacing runways will stimulate permanent job creation, but since the entire speech and idea is a retread anyway, we’ll take what we can get.

Got an Obamateurism of the Day? If you see a foul-up by Barack Obama, e-mail it to me at obamaisms@edmorrissey.com with the quote and the link to the Obamateurism. I’ll post the best Obamateurisms on a daily basis, depending on how many I receive. Include a link to your blog, and I’ll give some link love as well. And unlike Slate, I promise to end the feature when Barack Obama leaves office.

No new ideas — isn’t that what he said of the GOP?

He’s just like FDR!

I wonder who gets to tell the President that the overwhelming majority of his idiot voters have no idea who FDR is.

Mr. President, your idiot voters want money. In their pockets. For free. A stupid bridge or a choo-choo train is good for union drones, but it’s not gonna cut it for your street patrols.

They’re restless, Mr. President.

At least this time Obama threw in a new wrinkle with runway restoration.

The runway upgrades have become critical. There were too many places where Air force One has been unable to land.

Expect the first upgrades to be in prime vacation spots. Proximity to golf courses is a plus.

We have to send Imam Rauf around the world to build bridges between the US and the Muslim community, too.

Wonder if Porkulus covers that, and if so…is it halal?

The dispute arises as the Obama administration is cracking down on disclosures of classified information to the news media, pursuing three such prosecutions to date, the first since 1985.

They said if I voted for John McCain, persons whose conscience obligated them to reveal military secrets would be prosecuted … and they were right.

41 Obama White House aides owe the IRS $831,000 in back taxes — and they’re not alone

Over the years a lot of suspicion has built up across the country about Washington and its population of opportunistic transients coming to see themselves as a special kind of person, somehow above average working Americans who don’t work down in that former swamp.

Well, finally, an end to all those undocumented doubts. Thanks to some diligent digging by the Washington Post, those suspicions can at last be put to rest.

They’re correct. Accurate. Dead-on. Laser-guided. On target. Bingo-bango. As clear as it’s always seemed to those Americans who don’t feel special entitlements and do meet their government obligations.

We now know that federal employees across the nation owe fully $1 billion in back taxes to the Internal Revenue Service.

J_Crater on September 10, 2010 at 8:33 AM

Now he has a six year plan when the first “plan” hasn’t gotten off the ground. This administration is all about the words and not about the implementation. The only effective action I have seen from this administration is to increase the size of government.
.
I’ll bet he even thinks that the “malaise” epitomized by JimmahCawtahPeenutFahmah was a good thing. We sure have plenty of malaise and little optimism when it comes to Teh Ø.

Where did the last $800,000,000,000.00 go?
Anyone know?
Seriously.

It’s like the income from various states’ lotteries that is supposed to go for education.

WHERE IS ALL THAT MONEY?

Wow. We knew we had heard all this before but putting it in black and white like that just proves that Mr. President is stuck on spin cycle. I truly think he is insane.

It’s almost as if Obama is a Max Headroom type artificial construct. If we listen closely, do we get to hear him say ‘r-r-r-runway?’

James on September 10, 2010 at 9:10 AM

Democratics always talk ‘infrastructure’ when they want to print off a few hundred billion more dollars to blow through. To hear them prattle on you would think the nation is crumbling. Then, after the money is spent we hear it was used to build fountains and pieces of modern art for federal buildings. Shovel-ready etc. Rinse and repeat.

slickwillie2001 on September 10, 2010 at 9:18 AM

What’s frightening to me is that there are folks out there who hang on Mr. President’s every word, who don’t even comprehend what his failed policies have cost the country, and who will go right out and vote for him again.

Read off the TOTUS something ya wrote six months ago, throw in a line about the car, the ditch and the guys before ya and then golf or vacation on the taxpayers dime.

Maybe someone in Barry’s administration will check on “runway resurfacing”. It takes less that 15 people to do the job.

How can women support this idiot?

I don’t know of many women who are working in the union construction business. Roadwork will not put half of the unemployed, women, back to work.

Dhuka on September 10, 2010 at 11:07 AM

Someone please explain to me why 1) the only job this administration can seem to create is a construction job, and 2) what that has to do with the 10% of the population that didn’t have construction jobs before and don’t what them now?

Once we’ve rebuilt the infrastructure, then what will all those people do for a living? I guess we can shut down the airports permanently so they can just continually re-pave the runways??

Good plan!

Good observation from one Minnasooootan to another.

Obowma is exactly following FDR’s model of governance to a Tee (golf pun intended). The stimulus road signs, tax increases, takeovers of industry, banks, financial institutions, repair of infrastructure and roads, union support all followed FDR’s gameplan which resulted in an extended recession and eventual depression.

The question is Obowma doing it by design or by incompetence?
