Video: CNN reveals promo for Parker/Spitzer show. What could go wrong?

In fairness, the principals here are so widely disliked in the blogosphere that the promo would have been panned no matter what. But there were ways available to mitigate the damage. They could have played it straight and pushed it as a centrist-y alternative to the O’Reilly/Olby bombast at 8 p.m. (even though, natch, it’s only the “conservative” here who’s actually centrist). “We’re having a conversation and we’d like you to join in,” etc etc — anything along those lines to draw the contrast with their polarizing competition would have been fine, if predictable. As it is, Ace is right: This feels exactly like a trailer for a Nora Ephron comedy about two TV journalists bantering their way through life. Even the whimsical jazzy soundtrack is Ephron-esque. Is that what they’re going for? The coveted “When Harry Met Sally” demographic? I could be down with that, but if they’re going to try it, I want other conceits from the movie too. Like, they could have Kyra Phillips and John King on occasionally in the Carrie Fisher/Bruno Kirby quirky best-friend roles. And they could do cutesy stuff like play “news charades” or whatever. Imagine how funny it would be if Spitz worked in a “baby fishmouth” reference. I’d laugh. You’d laugh.

Blowback

I’d laugh too, at the very notion that CNN thinks this is a good idea. Former prosecutor cheats on his wife, frequents high class prostitutes while arresting those who do the same. I know, let’s reward him with his own TV show and pay him millions for his opinions! Yea, that’s it, that will draw crowds of viewers!

“I will concede it to you for a player to be named later.”???

Was that a sex reference?

This made me cringe. I felt embarassed for both weasels, but was surprised to see that Spitzer was more likeable and engaging (that’s important for a Harry Met Sally news). She talks through grit teeth and makes Martha Stewart seem warm.

The Dits Spits Show

For the first week they will have the morbid curiosity train wreck factor going for them – but only for a week. Even Nixon knew that there needed to be a decent interval before he could be rehabilitated. Spitzer on the other hand…..

Ugh. Just saw the promo at Allah’s taunting request. Why are they sitting so close to each other and looking at each other? Is the viewer (and I mean that literally) supposed to feel like she is eavesdropping on dinner conversation?

Gross. And no, Parker does not “look good” for a 58 year old. She looks decidedly worse than her promo photos, predictably. They are both smarmy.
