I think Sting threw his band mates overboard because he knew he could..

Dire Straits on September 7, 2010 at 1:56 AM

Sting is a raging ego. But he had a fine run going solo. I think if was Sting that made me get super tolerant of egotism in the arts as long as they produce good music. The Police single-handedly introduced ska into the mainstream.

John the Libertarian on September 7, 2010 at 2:01 AM

First concert ever: Babys opened for Styx.
Second concert: Eagles Long Run with Joe Walsh.
Third concert: Police Ghost In The Machine.

John the Libertarian on September 7, 2010 at 1:53 AM

Great sets….I saw the Police on this tour….Lakeland Florida.

First concert: Foghat/Blue Oyster Cult
Second concert: Police..Ghost in the Machine(I think Billy Squire opened for them)
Third Concert: Black Sabbath with Ronnie James Dio (Saw the original Sabbath at Oz Fest years later…incredible.)

What was your best Concert?????

Ugh, solo Sting….I think I just threw up in my mouth a little bit.

Breaks my heart. Freddie Mercury was an incredible talent.

Just two nights ago I caught Earth, Wind & Fire backed by the Hollywood Bowl orchestra. Fantastic show.

John the Libertarian on September 7, 2010 at 2:10 AM

Good songs all but, in light of Barry’s “they treat me like a dog” unscripted “comment” today, may I present Johnny Cash and the Muppets, singing “That Dirty Old Egg Sucking Dog” ………

John the Libertarian on September 7, 2010 at 2:06 AM

Hey, I kinda like “Easy Lover” and “In The Air Tonight.” Though I guess “Easy Lover” was 80% Phil Bailey. The less spoken of Sussudio, the better. Oh, and that awful “You Can’t Hurry Love” cover. Blech.

Good Solid B-Plus on September 7, 2010 at 2:13 AM

Though I guess “Easy Lover” was 80% Phil Bailey.

Good Solid B-Plus on September 7, 2010 at 2:13 AM

So funny! Just caught Phil Bailey at the Hollywood Bowl two nights ago. That guy has MAJOR PIPES.

John the Libertarian on September 7, 2010 at 2:15 AM

I hear you..

PS..You definitely nailed Pink Floyd very well..:)

Dire Straits on September 7, 2010 at 1:59 AM

We get Floyd.
Just like you and many others,Waters/Gilmore’s insights take you places. On some levels, you can relate to exactly what they are saying….

You don’t have to have been a rock star to have been “Comfortably Numb.”

The Police were getting close …..but broke up.

Incredible talent.

Baxter Greene on September 7, 2010 at 1:50 AM

The Police were awesome ..I think Sting threw his band mates overboard because he knew he could..As I mentioned earlier I thought Ozzie (looking in hindsight) made a mistake leaving Sabbath because it hurt both..IMHO.:)

Dire Straits on September 7, 2010 at 1:56 AM

I agree about Sting.John has it right also…..Sting has an incredible ego.Very talented but would have made a bigger impact staying with the Police.

Ozzy leaving Sabbath was a huge mistake.
Yea Ozzy did well solo….but they would have been even greater together.
I know the last few albums were frustrating for them…..but I think that if they could have worked through their differences…..they could have pumped out some more great music.

Baxter Greene on September 7, 2010 at 2:16 AM

Good Solid B-Plus on September 7, 2010 at 2:13 AM

Baxter Greene on September 7, 2010 at 2:19 AM

Um, Jethro Tull never won a Heavy Metal Grammy.
They won in the combined category of Hard Rock/Metal.
After all the whining by Metallica fanboys, they gave separate Hard Rock and Heavy Metal awards in subsequent years.

Chickyraptor on September 7, 2010 at 2:21 AM

Now, after having examined Mr. Treacher’s comment, all I have to ask is: why did you get the carpet changed in the Oval Office?

ted c on September 7, 2010 at 7:12 AM

The president needs better speechwriters. The president needs a staff to tell him not to give an Oval Office address unless he has something worthy of the Oval Office to say. The president needs someone to look into the camera so that, when the light goes on and he says, “Good evening,” he looks commander-in-chiefish: big. In other words, the president needs to fire some key people. Either that, or the way things are going the American people are going to fire him.

Sorry Cohen, you outsized toolbag, but a new staff is not going to make Barry look “commander-in-chiefish”. For that he needs a lamp with a Genie.

Obama does whine like a dog. Poor little pooch.

RandyChandler on September 7, 2010 at 7:57 AM

The egoism and sheer narcissism of this guy is beyond belief!

When was the last time you ever heard a President say another party was treating him like a dog?

Unbelievable!

pilamaye on September 7, 2010 at 8:00 AM

Weird stuff, probably from Obama’s childhood.

From a HuffPo critique of Slumdog Millionaire:

In Asian culture, dog — kutte in Hindi, anjin in Indonesian — is about the ultimate low in name calling.

And this gem from The Jakarta Globe:

“The morning after, Obama, who has eaten dog meat when he lived in Indonesia as a child, should head out for a taste of traditional cuisine. I understand that people are expecting the president to chow down on nasi goreng , mie bakso or gado gado.”

RandyChandler on September 7, 2010 at 7:57 AM

Now I see maybe I should have named my dog Obama instead of Brewski.
After all, she’s a mixed breed bitch who was abandoned and given a nice home. Now she lies around doing nothing for 16 hours a day and sheds on the carpet. She also likes to chase balls on the grass. Though, unlike Obama, she is dearly loved and will never be cast out.

His Farcical Reform institutionalized bailouts and crony capitalism.

In other words, the greatest theatrical production of the past few months is now over, it has achieved nothing, it will prevent nothing, and ultimately the financial markets will blow up yet again, but not before the Teleprompter in Chief pummels the idiot public with address after address how he singlehandedly was bribed, pardon, achieved a historic event of being the only president to completely crumble under Wall Street’s pressure on every item that was supposed to reign in the greatest risk-taking generation (with Other People’s Money) in history.

This revolving door between Washington and Wall Street allows people attracted to power and who are skeptical of the ideals of a free market, to dominate economic policy for their benefit. One way to say this is that it creates a partnership between the financial sector of the economy and the government (which is the controlling partner in this relationship). In the 1930s this type of political system was greatly admired in Washington. Today this system has evolved into “crony capitalism,” an oligarchic structure maintained by the Wall Street-Washington Financial Complex to perpetuate itself.

He certainly lies like a dog.

“With respect to the dog,” said Obama, “this is a major issue.” He said it has generated the most interest on his Web site, but before a new addition is made to the family, “two criteria that have to be reconciled.”

One is that elder daughter Malia, 10, “is allergic, so it has to be hypoallergenic.” The other is that “our preference would be to get a shelter dog,” which would point to the possiblity of a mixed breed, or, as Obama said, “a mutt, like me.”
