Poll: What was the Obamateurism of the Week?

posted at 9:00 am on September 5, 2010 by Ed Morrissey

It”s time once again for the Obamateurism of the Week, in which we help Barack Obama take credit for his, er, accomplishments.  After all, we don’t want to attribute these to anything but Obama’s own foibles, although we could call them something else if he likes.  ‘Obamateurisms’ makes for a nice, umbrella term, though.  Maybe he can just plaster it on his forehead to make it easier for everyone.

Previous 2010 “winners”:

Got an Obamateurism of the Day? If you see a foul-up by Barack Obama, e-mail it to me at obamaisms@edmorrissey.com with the quote and the link to the Obamateurism. I’ll post the best Obamateurisms on a daily basis, depending on how many I receive. Include a link to your blog, and I’ll give some link love as well. And unlike Slate, I promise to end the feature when Barack Obama leaves office.

The umbrella incident is a perfect metaphor for Barry Soetoro’s presidency.

It’s silly, but I had to go for Barry Poppins. It so perfectly characterizes the cluelessness of his presidency.

The last two choices demonstrate (once again!) what a weasel ObaMao is. While they are not evidence of amateurism but of a cynical political posturing, I voted for the last one.

The first three choices show (once again!) what a lightweight ObaMao is. The lad was marketed as the epitome of intellectualism, but his report card in real behaviors shows him to be graded on an inflated curve.

The “Barry Poppins” still photo is unfair. It appears to me he’s actually being pretty smooth by switching hands as he lifts the umbrella over the top rail.

Nice try Ms. Poppins.

Not only was the quote misappropriated to MLK, they knew that it was over 12 mos ago and, alas, had the rug made anyway.

Combat Arms name change.

Planning for a year to take Combat Arms Stryker Brigades and rename them to “Advise and Assist” Brigades and then go on TV and announce that all the Combat Brigades have left Iraq is repugnant to me and it is an amateur who thinks he can get away with it.

Even NPR noticed.

journeyintothewhirlwind on September 5, 2010 at 10:02 AM

Poppins or rug? Poppins or rug? Poppins or rug?
.
I think the rug misquote is more enduring, representative of less than amateur-level research now recognized even by Øbummer’s media supporters as inaccurate and wholly unattributable. Now it’s a permanent record of more inaccurate bunk pawned off as true and raises even more questions about The Ø and his academic rigor and performance.
.
Barry Poppins is sure a “go to” image of Teh Won’s negatively-skewed problem-solving skills.

ExpressoBold on September 5, 2010 at 10:07 AM

I went with the rug, because he actually put that one in writing.

backwoods conservative on September 5, 2010 at 10:07 AM

If he’s going to plaster some personal info on his forehead, how about the background of his parents, mentors, education, and other important influences in his life. And don’t white-wash it. Pink, Islamic, Black Liberation Theology, all of it.

Paul-Cincy on September 5, 2010 at 10:07 AM

I seriously doubt Mr. President is to blame for the rug, he can’t be bothered with details such as those. He probably has an interior decorator czar who takes care of all that. As for the comment about his birth certificate, I’ve come to expect these little smart a$$ remarks from him so it’s not surprising to hear him say something like that. As for the umbrella incident, yea, that was a “doh” moment for sure, but we all have those. Fortunately for us the AP photographer isn’t following us around to catch all of them.

Taking credit for the draw down in Iraq that President Bush’s administration put together and then renaming the troops who remain over isn’t surprising, either. This is who he is, an opportunist and a flim flam man.

scalleywag on September 5, 2010 at 10:09 AM

But I voted for taking credit for the draw down. Blame Bush for everything wrong and praise yourself for the parts that go right. Despicable.

scalleywag on September 5, 2010 at 10:13 AM

Once again, another week of tough choices. I went with the failed redecoration of the Oval Office. By incorrectly attributing the quote to MLK, it epitomizes everything that’s wrong with O-Loser and his entire administration.

GrannyDee on September 5, 2010 at 10:13 AM

I thought re-naming the remaining Brigades was more of an insult to the troops who remain in harm’s way than an amaturism. So I went for the Oval office rug. Obama ALWAYS doubles-down on something even if he is proven wrong. It’s just another example of his towering arrogance.

Definitely between the last two choices. Both were rank political posturing, of course, but both just screamed, “The masses are too stupid to pick up on this.”

On Sundays, you should consider an open thread for the Sunday morning news shows. I impantiently flipped around this morning because the offerings were very dreary: FNS (McCain and Tim Kaine); This Week (late, but the panel included Will, Krugman and Friedman (WTF?), and some nitwit I didn’t know); and MTP (Lindsey Graham (ugh), that weasel David Plouffe, and its panel (yummy Erin Burnett, E.J. “small hands and lisping” Dionne, Rich Lowry, and Charlie Cook).

I was stunned to hear Burnett insist that this is the more rapidly recovering employment environment for any recession on record. That’s the first I’ve heard of it. Is she shooting for Romer’s job?

So many good choices, but I went with the rug, too. Maybe because of the reasons you said and it’s written for all to see the error, in the Oval Office, until the next person comes along and changes it. Which probably won’t be for a while. (Who spends that kind of money on redecorating the people’s office in a recession/depression?)

DrAllecon on September 5, 2010 at 12:10 PM

Presidents always take credit for others’ actions. But to make official a missattribution even after being made aware of it, shows that this is a “first result of a google search” administration and not serious thinkers. Again, why do some think Dear Liar is so damn smart?
