Iran paying Taliban $1000 per American soldier killed?

posted at 1:30 pm on September 5, 2010 by Ed Morrissey

This story can’t possibly be true.  After all, as we all know, the Shi’ite theocracy in Iran would never support a Sunni organization like the Taliban or al-Qaeda, or vice-versa … right?  Right?

Iran is paying Taliban fighters $1,000 for each U.S. soldier they kill in Afghanistan, according to a report in a British newspaper.

The Sunday Times described how a man it said was a “Taliban treasurer” had gone to collect $18,000 from an Iranian firm in Kabul, a reward it said was for an attack in July which killed several Afghan government troops and destroyed an American armored vehicle.

The treasurer left with the cash hidden in a sack of flour, the newspaper said, and then gave it to Taliban fighters in the province of Wardak. In the past six months, the treasurer claimed to have collected more than $77,000 from the company.

The Sunday Times said its investigation had found that at least five Kabul-based Iranian companies were secretly passing funds to the Taliban.

Actually, it turns out that Islamists of different stripes see this rather pragmatically:

“We don’t care who we get money from,” the treasurer was quoted as saying. He described the relationship with Iran as a “marriage of convenience.” Iran is a predominantly Shiite country, while the Taliban is dominated by Sunni Muslims.

“Iran will never stop funding us because Americans are dangerous for them as well. I think the hatred is the same from both us and Iran. The money we get is not dirty. It is for jihad,” the treasurer told Amoore.

It’s been a while since Barack Obama proclaimed that he would meet with Mahmoud Ahmadinejad “without preconditions.”  Will he insist that Iran stop funding the Taliban based on a bounty system for dead Americans, at least?

Why don’t we give Israel a billion dollar bounty for every Iranian nuclear site they take out?

chickasaw42 on September 5, 2010 at 10:27 PM

Well, because right now we have about negative 13 trillion dollars to spend. But we do have a lot of Tomahawks and JDAMs just waiting for GPS coordinates to visit. I expect the Iranian military has a few more barracks, aircraft, radars, ships, docks, and other facilities than it strictly needs.

Blacklake on September 5, 2010 at 11:55 PM

How is this not an act of war? Reagan sunk the Iranian Navy once he got in office. We need an alpha male in the White House who will blow up every bridge in Iran, every oil well, every military post, every dam, every power generating station, and every port. For starters…

Mojave Mark on September 6, 2010 at 1:31 AM

We should blow Iran nuke facilities to bits and take out Acmedidajob on the way out if possible.

Too much appeasement going on from the West today. Act now or pay a much higher price later.

We are just repeating history again, folks. To appease an evil aggressor bully NEVER solves anything and ALWAYS makes things much much worse down the road.

Israel our friend? Yes.

Iran? No.

Iran controlled by dangerous islamists with upcoming nukes and we just stand back and issue “stern” warnings?

And the UN is “persona non grata” in this. Group non grata. Organization?? non grata . . . .

Sherman1864 on September 6, 2010 at 2:59 AM

Expect to hear something like this from the left.

“This is a bogus store! Leaked out so that the up coming attack Iran’s nukes will have wide spread public support”

DSchoen on September 6, 2010 at 5:57 AM

Has Obamalinsky offered them matching funds yet? You know, to make the stimulus work even better.

adamsmith on September 6, 2010 at 10:06 AM

I know this sounds horrible to want someone dead, and i know it is illegal to have our CIA kill heads of state, but can’t we take these people out? We just need to kill every crazy radical muslim and just be done with it. If that makes me a racist, then I will own this title.

karenhasfreedom on September 6, 2010 at 5:31 PM

You see, before Libz and conz got this yellow streak up their backsides, I do believe this would have been a declaration of war.

Iraq: Check
Afghanistan: In process
Iran: Coming soon

Narutoboy on September 6, 2010 at 9:31 PM

Maybe with some expert diplomacy we could whittle that down to $750.

Tit for tat, Achmydinnerjacket.

Explain again why Obama denied the already appropriated congressional funding for Iranian humanitarian aid. They certainly have better access to dine than our own forces.

Iraq? “Check” out the perpetual combat there, the Iraqi police forces being bombed as well.

Afghanistan: “In process” — No kidding. How else would perpetual warfare be conducted?

Iran: coming soon — what, to a neighborhood near you? This isn’t anything to look forward to, considering Iranian allies and the monopoly of influence that the Jihadi Terrorists have over “Islam” that DOES have a neighbor near you.

What is the point of either conducting or INITIATING war against Islamic terrorist theocracy during this particular pantywaist/pantywaste administration?

maverick muse on September 7, 2010 at 9:33 AM

Propaganda promoting “good intentions” don’t convince realists.

There is no way for America to “win” hearts and minds of Islamic nativists who represent the populations of tribes in Afghanistan.

There is no way for America to “win” hearts and minds of an Islamic Theocracy gripping the throats of well educated Iranian citizens held at bay by their own Islamic nativists holding all the weapons.

Islam declared war on America decades ago. Their own population fights to defend their own ways against ours. And those with a mind to fight have already joined forces against the US. Those Iranians who have asked for US aid have been turned down by pantywaste who considers them to be totally expendable rather than an aid when confronting dinnerjacket. Consider well the ruin of America that pantywaste has already conducted, his antipathy for America and Americans, and then come up with some realistic reason he wouldn’t forfeit American lives for some foreign “love”.

Of all presidents, how on earth can either American citizens OR any Iranians trust in this pantypuppet administration?

Bounty = no fear of reprisal…

Khun Joe on September 7, 2010 at 9:47 AM

Who wants to bet Iran repeatedly tries to “jew” them out of their bounties?

DrZin on September 7, 2010 at 10:49 AM

This might be a little off topic, but not much.

I am so sick of these 6th century neanderthals dictating to us. Some church in Fl. is going to burn a book(the koran) and we are supposed to tremble at the threat of retaliation if this is done.

These are the same cretins that burn our flag, hang and burn our president in efigy, declare death to all infidals(Americans) celebrated in the streets on 9/11 when 3000 innocent Americans were murdered, and we still let them immigrate here. WHY???

I say let dinnerjacket destroy all the middleeast and all the bleeding hearts that side with Iran.

Sorry, but I sure feel better:):)

concernedsenior on September 7, 2010 at 2:23 PM

The NVA did the same thing in Vietnam (they put a $200 bounty on SEALs).

Cr4sh Dummy on September 7, 2010 at 4:34 PM

Just FYI:
Ammadojihad is often called “Stinky” by the international press. It’s a Middle-East cultural thang I guess??? Maybe they think that “real” men should not use deodorants or perfumes of any kind. I dunno, but I used to work with a Syrian who, while very nice and very competent, used to make my eyes water when he came around or I asked him for help. Man! He would stand there and smile and the BO stank was almost overwhelming.

shorebird on September 8, 2010 at 12:01 AM

If Ammadojihad is so sure that his people or others are so full of hate that a bounty will motivate them to killing U.S., then they must be so economically hard up that money will motivate them to do such hideous acts.

Therefore, what is to prevent them from doing the same to their own if the reward is higher? So, if we offer $10,000 for Ammadojihad we maybe able to pay our way of the fight verses actually fighting our way out.
