Video: A huge Republican wave comparable to 1994 is coming, says … Evan Bayh

posted at 8:50 pm on September 2, 2010 by Allahpundit

Alternate headline: “Lame-duck Blue Dog free to admit what every other Democrat already knows.” The good stuff comes at the beginning, but if you give up before the end, you’ll miss him talking about what a horrible political miscalculation ObamaCare was. Yes, after 60 years of trying, they finally got a foot in the door of socialized medicine, but they knew the price they’d pay was steep. Did they know it’d be quite this steep, though? Kaus-ian Democrat-bashing Democrat Pat Caddell raises the stakes:

Unlike President Reagan at his first-term midpoint, in 1982, “Obama is not able to go out there and say, ‘Stay the course.’ That’s just not possible. The Democrats’ hope with health care was that ‘people will like it after we pass it.’ Well, they hate it, and you don’t see any effort to promote it. The Democrats had a chance to do this right — most people supported aspects of reform — but because of the way it was passed, as a crime against democracy, the country has simply not accepted it. The lies, the browbeating, the ‘deem and pass’ — all of it was a suicide mission.”…

Can Obama soften the blow at the eleventh hour? Caddell says it will be tough. Any efforts by Obama to right his ship, he says, will still face an electorate largely uninterested in new West Wing talking points or presidential maneuvers. Caddell believes that 2010 will be a louder, more raucous moment than 1978 in American politics. “The discontent is much larger than the turnout at Glenn Beck rallies,” he says. “A sea of anger is churning — the tea parties are but the tip of the iceberg. People say they want to take their country back, and, to the Democrats’ chagrin, they’re very serious about it.”

For what it’s worth, I think Larry Sabato’s estimated gain of 47 seats is just about perfect in terms of what the GOP should aim for. Anything less than 40, which is what they need to take back the House, will seems like a disappointment whereas matching 1994′s total of 52 seems like an unrealistically tall order even with everything breaking their way. Although you should definitely read this rosier-than-rosy assessment by Sean Trende at RCP positing a pick-up somewhere between 60 … and 90. Until I see it happen with my own two eyes, I’m assuming that a net gain in the high 50s is the best any party can hope to do in our roughly evenly divided nation. Anything above it would be Beamonesque.

I hope he’s underestimating the situation. As pathetic as the Republican party is, the last remaining chance for sanity seems to be with a massive pendulum swing to that side. If that fails to materialize, or they squander their victory, it’s all over. The chances for reforming that bunch of ivory-tower scoundrels are slim – but the Demoncrats? Slim to none.

“A sea of anger is churning — the tea parties are but the tip of the iceberg. People say they want to take their country back, and, to the Democrats’ chagrin, they’re very serious about it.”

While I think the economy is the focus right now, it is just part of the absolute hatred people have for these people and it isn’t just Obama the entire Democrat house and Senate have enabled this situation and everyone understands it. I just hope the losses are large enough to make sure that the Democrats, Obama, and most of all the Republicans get the message.

The Democrats had a chance to do this right — most people supported aspects of reform — but because of the way it was passed, as a crime against democracy, the country has simply not accepted it.

And we should never let the American public forget the bizarre method the Democrats used to drive their agenda over the obvious will of the American people.

So how can anyone say that they connect with him on a “personal level”? I don’t get that, was there a group hug that I missed or something?

He hoping for a Republican landslide this fall. He wants the Democratic party in disarray. It’s his (and Hillary’s) only chance for a presidential run in 2012. Distance himself from the current administration, and make out that is can save the democratic ticket. Because he has both legislative and administrative experience. For all of you non-Hoosiers out there, he was a horrible Governor.

But we are no longer an evenly divided nation.

The conservatives have come home to the GOP, giving them a floor of about 43%.

The enthusiasm chasm between the conservatives and the progressives is massive – far more then we have seen in modern polling. See Gallup’s work on enthusiasm and now thought given to the election.

These first two factors alone get us to 1994.

However, the real killer is the Dems have lost the center. Take a look at the VA, NJ and MA elections and all the polling since then. Indis are breaking 2-1 for the GOP.

This probably gives the GOP an effective 8 to 10% national lead.

This is how an unknown GOP state legislature backbencher wins Ted Kennedy’s senate seat in a walk.

This is how the GOP enjoys its highest lead in the congressional generic in Gallup’s 60 year history. The congressional generic among registered voters was essentially tied before 1994. Today, it is averaging +5 across several polls.

Unless the Dems base shows up all of the sudden, we are very likely going to be witnessing history on par with 1932.

phreshone on September 2, 2010 at 9:49 PM

This is how the GOP enjoys its highest lead in the congressional generic in Gallup’s 60 year history.

Not only its highest lead, but a lead that is double the previous high. In other words, it got to +5 in 1994 and never again got that high until 2010. Now it’s +10.

Also this from Jay Cost who just moved from RCP to the Weekly Standard:

What’s more noteworthy than GOP +10 on the generic ballot is that Republicans in Congress now outpoll Democrats on seven of nine issues, according to Gallup. What’s amazing about this is that Gallup tested “Republicans in Congress” versus “Democrats in Congress” and gave voters the potential response of “No Difference.” And even with this, the GOP is at or above 50 percent on terrorism, immigration, and federal spending. And on the economy, the GOP hits 49 percent. That’s amazing because “Republicans in Congress” has long been a surefire way to generate terrible GOP polling numbers.

Read the whole Cost article, it’s awesome.

In one way, the event in this case is unrestrained rule by Obama, Pelosi, Waxman, and Reid. However, if the Americans do not repeal Obamacare, it seems the end will be much the same as if their rule had continued unrestrained.

The Republicans are going to find out that taking the house was the easy part.

Once they’re in power people like me are going to be holding their feet to the fire to produce.

It doesn’t even matter if they can’t get things passed, or if it is blocked in the Senate. The thing is to make the spending cuts. Dismantle Obamacare. Get out of the business of the government picking winners and losers.

Before you point out that all that might not be possible, I know. But sometimes it is better to be seen fighting the ‘good’ fight, even if you lose, than it is to abjectly ‘go along to get along’.

Liberals claim that they want to have a debate, that they want to fight. Give them what they ask for.

Not staged press conferences, not a ‘minute speech,’ but a head to head debate over the bedrock principles of what America stands for.

Candidates Kerry and Clinton got coaching from actors and new anchors before they went on TV. Get coaching from Limbaugh, Beck, and Hannity. Even better, get coached by Ann Coulter.

If things are “business as usual” expect to be tarred, feathered and run out of town. I’ll be there. You’ll recognize me. I’ll be the one with the torch and pitchfork.

Best pocket sticker at the Glenn Beck Rally: I can see November from my house too!

Evan Bayh is a tool. His answers as to the Obama agenda was a load of crap. The Obamacare bill is disastrous to most Americans in terms of health care and cost. He lies like a rug and is a corrupt politician for not speaking the truth regarding the mess that this administration has created. He should be tossed out on his fanny the next time he is up for reelection.

geo11 on September 3, 2010 at 12:44 AM

geo11, Bayh chose not to run again, he saw the tsunami coming and decided to get out of the ocean before it swept him out of office involuntarily

Biggest shocker of the night will be…..Pat Leahy loses in Vermont.

rockmom on September 2, 2010 at 11:36 PM

What do you know about the Leahy seat in VT? I haven’t seen anything in the polling.

75 House seats MINIMUM, and 13 Senate seats. Yeah, I went there. I think we will run the table.

karenhasfreedom on September 3, 2010 at 2:09 AM

I’m still crossing my fingers about November. I hope it is the dramatic wave of Conservative Republicans and Libertarians taking over both houses of Congress like all the indicators seem to be pointing to.

My exit question, how much of a booty-whooping does it have to be before the MSM admits the American People were totally against the Socialist movement the Donks were pushing us toward?

For instance, will Bill Schneider from CNN just say the voters wanted a change or will he say it’s a repudiation against what his kind were trying to do?

Chance that they will? Well, I’ll be looking for the NOTAMs saying that we have swine in the pattern at our airfield.

Like Obama’s intelligence, I’ve seen no evidence that he’s likeable on a personal level. He is a known proven liar. He’s a snob. He’s a poor winner. The only emotion I’ve ever seen him portray in public is one of irritation. He has no sense of humor.

What’s likeable about him?

Jaynie59 on September 3, 2010 at 7:24 AM

People are unhappy. Even Democrats. And that means that even people who might think Beck is out of the main stream or odd or whatever are still upset with the way things are.

Terrye on September 3, 2010 at 7:43 AM

Did you notice, it’s always US who pay for Democrat’s miscalculations?

tarpon on September 3, 2010 at 7:56 AM

You know, listening to these people, especially the pundits … they have absolutely no idea what the hell is going on in America. They all live and work in a little bubble and think their job is to help democrats take care of us stupid morons.

God I hate the media, I hate the left and I hate anything to do with the federal government, except the military. Even our once powerhouse science outfits are nothing more than progressive propaganda machines.

Screw them all.

“I’m assuming that a net gain in the high 50s is the best any party can hope to do in our roughly evenly divided nation.”

Uh.. only evenly divided when some folks accept the liberal/statist worldview. The lib/statist worldview is being shown to be wrong and unsustainable.

The ‘silent majority’ assumed that politicians R or D would steal a little, lie a little but generally have the best interest of their constituents in mind. They have awoken to find that politicians both R and D are stealing a lot, lying a lot and buying votes and power by taxing the next generations into slavery.

This will not stand.

No civilization can enslave it’s children and grandchildren and expect to remain at peace.

If I’m hospitalized and in a full body cast on Nov. 2nd, I told my hubby to check me out AMA and wheel me to the polls. After that, he can check me back in, but only as long as the hospital has MSNBC, where I can watch Chrissy get all wee-weed up. I also hope that Rachel Maddow calls Kristin Powers and wails, “Hold me!”

There is no such animal as a BlueDog demonrat. Those that claim to be always lie and deceive at election time and then stab their constituents in the back as the polls close. If republicans think they are popular with the voters, then they are as delusional as the dims. Conservatives are making a comeback and they realize that RINOs are just as bad as demonrats. It is impossible to clean out this much garbage in one election. Hopefully we can slow down these anti-American marxists enough to make even a small difference. Say NO to RINOs.

The wave in 94 was due to the AWB and it was AGAINST the will of the people , I think the ” failed Obama strategies ” are even more a slap in the face to the American people .
Baldwin Moved to FRANCE ( not ) perhaps Matt Damon, Depp,Cusak ,JOY, Whoopi , Rosie will all PROTEST and follow GEORGE CLOONEY to SPAIN .
Has EVAN missed the message that it is no longer cool to be squandering taxpayer money because you heir apparent to the family political Dynasty that has dragged on for generations ?
What is Evan’s plan ? Switch to the TEA PARTY? become a RINO ?
Indy for INDY ?
Moderate head of the DNC ? Corrupto lobbyman ?
WE only need to regain the HOUSE and start investigations to bring the machine to a grinding HALT .
Once the votes are counted we will see the so called ” moderates ” align with the Conservatives and it will be UGLY for our anti American corruptocrats like Pelosi , REID, and John “purple heart ” Kerry

ELMO Q on September 3, 2010 at 10:42 AM

Obama is what happens when you listen to the mainstream media. It is simple folks. Do not acknowledge the existence of the mainstream media and they will cease to exist. Chris Mathews could not exist on any other cable network as his ratings are a pathetic joke, yet he is constanly in the face of conservatives as his presence is a fixture on rightwing blogs including Hot Air.

volsense on September 3, 2010 at 10:44 AM

American Thinker had an article today concerning talk within the party, that Republican leadership isn’t up to the task of leading if the House is taken back and having the Democrats retain a very slim majority might benefit the Republicans in 2012. Cross-purposes steal your momentum.

midlander on September 3, 2010 at 10:50 AM

The rwb family just took a 2,000 mile road trip through several states, both red & blue. We saw a grand total of 2 Obama bumper stickers. Last year I saw enough fools sporting O stickers to make me cry. The worst thing I noticed this time was that Colorado still looks like a liberal mess – there are lots of Hickenlooper (D)for Governor signs. Foolish fools. I can hardly wait for November – I think it’s gonna be sweet. But – we will all have so much work to do to begin to fix the destruction that these PROGRESSIVE MONSTERS have done to America. We.must.stay.strong!
