Confirmed: Pretty much everyone offended by Vanity Fair hit piece on Palin

posted at 6:23 pm on September 2, 2010 by Allahpundit

So here’s where we’re at. Yesterday the piece dropped, and immediately even left-leaning reporters like Ben Smith and Dave Weigel started challenging it. Today Smith came back with another reason to question its accuracy; meanwhile, lefty feminists (including KP, whose criticism of Vanity Fair almost but not quite atones for her recent “Republicans are racist” op-ed) are unloading on VF for attacking Palin over alleged behavior that’s par for the course for male politicians. And now, as a coup de grace, here’s renowned Palin-hater Shannyn Moore telling Weigel that she’s filled with heart-ache at what a supposedly unethical hack the VF author has turned out to be.

I don’t give a rip what you said about me – though it was so completely wrong, and put me in such a completely inaccurate and unfavorable light people are mad on my behalf.

Fine thanks for Alaskan hospitality. I have extended the Alaska Spirit to dozens of journalists and visitors, and I will continue to do so. It’s on YOU, not me, as you are the only one who has broken agreements with sources you promised complete anonymity.

I’m sure you’re thrilled to be on TV now. Just know, like Sarah, Alaskans paid a price for it. Specifically, a 79-year old woman, with failing health, who spoke to you under anonymity who hopes her adult children will speak to her again.

Not enough to move the skepticism meter? Well, Conservatives4Palin talked to another source alleged by VF to have left Palin’s team on bad terms who now insists it’s not true, and Peter Hamby at CNN tweets, “I was w/ Palin for entire VP bid. never got a hint that she ‘lashed out at the slightest provocation’”. All of which brings me to a question: If, like Vanity Fair, you’re in the business of churning out occasional hit pieces on Palin to take her down and/or convince your readers that she’s every bit the demon they believe she is, wouldn’t you want to make extra, extra sure that the details are perfectly accurate? You know her supporters will allege media bias; the only counterargument is to present an airtight factual case. As it is, they’ve managed to turn this into Exhibit A in her argument for just how lame the “lamestream media” is. Amazing.

Via the Right Scoop, here she is yesterday on Hannity’s show taking the lay-up after Vanity Fair passed her the ball. Skip ahead to 4:10 or so.

Well, we’re talking about men who are ok with putting another man’s wee wee in their mouth, so irrational behavior on their part is to be expected.

Where’s the fear that Mitt will get the GOP nomination and beat Obama like a rented mule?

Where’s the fear from the Left that Huck will impose a Christian theocracy on America?

And why is the Left not terrified that Newt will sit beside Nancy Pelosi on a couch again?

biggest take away for the interview is Palin explains the gameplan of the left. anytime she has a victory under her belt the left comes out with these hit pieces to deflect her victories. As the Sun follows the moon this has occurred since aug 28th 2008.

watch everytime Palin has a victory the left releases a couple fake polls showing “her support to be thin” and then a hit piece or two to “remind” people why they should hate her.

It’s like clockwork and allah helps with their plan.

ddrintn on September 2, 2010 at 9:19 PM

I think Lenin had a term for that. something about useful idiots. By linking the fake polls and fake hit pieces instead of concentrating on reporting about the victories what do you have at the end of the day?

It’s thurs Miller won the election on tues. A GOp dynasty that took 30 years to build was destroyed in 4 years by a PTA mother. Only 1 and half days after such an historic accomplishment we are talking about a hit piece with no sources and the reaction to that hit piece.

We are not talking about how skilled a politican Palin has to be to do what she did. the gutzyness of taking on the system. her ability to see greatness in others, her work ethic such an accomplishment entails, the amount of money she help raise, the way she reached out to the tea party express to accomplish her goal. and a 1,000 other things that had to have happen to get the result that Palin got. no we are talking about a freaking hit piece and the reactions to that hit piece.

another example the Beck rally. amazing speeches by beck, Palin, and Mrs king. and instead of talking about the rally, the speeches, the idea of the behind the rally we talk about the reaction to the rally.

Palin goes on the tonight show and knocks them dead showing an ability to rise to the occasion and we talk about Levi. Palin goes to a haiti relief event helpoing to raise 100,000′s and we get a story about her getting a free sample. Palin gives a amazing RNC speech and we get a story about Bristol. Palin sells 3 million books and we get a story about a private plan. The list is endless. Each time Palin’s accomplishments are buried quickly and forgotten while the fake hit pieces are giving new and bigger play.

It is the plan of the left to distract from Palin’s acomplishments and victories. To make her less.

Pretty much anything with a Palin headline gets clicks and traffic for hotair. yet for some reason the stories about her victories get side tracked by the left’s narrative. You be the judge on why it happens to me its pretty clear and its not about web traffic.

unseen on September 2, 2010 at 9:45 PM

So far, in over two years, the only negative I see that can possibly stick is

A) Needs to be more informed on policy.
B) Likes the lime-light a little more than the average bear.
C) Her daughter Bristol is an absolute nutter. (Sorry, I just don’t like the daugher…she gives more ammo to the SP haters.)

That’s all I’ve seen. It just reminds me of GWB redux…and I really hate the empire of hate they built against him.

Gob on September 2, 2010 at 6:35 PM

Sadly, most of your perception is based on lies from the lamestream media.

On foreign policy, Sarah has a lot more experience than Bill Clinton did when he was elected. In fact, Dick Morris tells the story that they literally had to set up a training center for him. Not a bad think, many Governors would need that.

Alaska trades with a lot of nations, mainly in Europe and Asia. When Alaska celebrated it’s 50th anniversary, Sarah hosted officials from over 20 countries, including Russia’s US Ambassador.

Sarah made a serious foreign policy speech in China. Recently one of her Facebook take downs of Barry was called on of the finest analysis of Obama’s policy ever written.

As for liking the limelight. Well, she’s getting comfortable with it, but you know, had the rabid left wing loons in and out of Alaska left her alone after the election, she was quite prepared to just go home and be Governor.

Since the left was bound and determined not to let that happen, she decided to take advantage of what they had done.

Sarah was already wildly popular with conservatives, and the crazies on the left only made her stronger. All of the “celebrity” is a by product of her looking at the big picture and simply playing the hand she was dealt. Very well, I might add.

Bristol is fine. She’s just a kid. An ordinary kid. She’s made some poor decisions, but we all did when we were younger.

As to where to find out the TRUTH about Sarah, Conservatives4Palin is one of the best bets. A lot of us blog about her, but C4P has a great group of writers and are on top of absolutely everything.

Another great source is PalinTV.com. Sheya has all of her speeches and other stuff cataloged. As he says, in her own words, unedited.

Josh Painter at Texas For Palin does a great job.

Tammy Bruce is doing a weekly Palin Report as well.

It’s actually quite easy to find out the truth about Sarah. She has a lengthy record in politics.

Go back and read stuff by Fred Barnes and Bill Kristol from right after she became Governor (that’s how I discovered her) Good stuff.

Vogue did a great piece on her as well. Back in the day. My co-blogger Stacy Drake talks about it here.

Also, read Sarah’s book. It’s quite good.

Oh, and go to Amazon and get Kay Cashman’s book Sarah Takes on Big Oil. It’s a must read.

I agree with Speedwagon82 on September 3, 2010 at 12:28 AM.

On the clothes fiasco, as if Romney had anything to do with that. The McCain/Schmidt campaign woman assigned to Palin was responsible for the entire problem including the Couric interview. And the end of the campaign did not end her scourging Palin through the media. But the RNC and Republican elitists have decided to embrace Palin for the obvious benefits she brings the party through donations and participation in grassroots campaigning.

Here’s where we’re at

Uh, not to bore everyone, but Allahpundit really meant

Here’s where we are

I may not speak goodly all of the time, but I know enough not to end a sentence with a dangling preposition. Hard to read the rest when the start is so weakly.

Tragic story of Rosemarie Kennedy… the forgotten sister.

Key West Reader on September 2, 2010 at 6:55 PM

This story is absolutely tragic.
I talk about it in my HS Anatomy class when we’re studying the brain & the history of lobotomies.
Honestly, how could you live with yourself after having done such a thing to your own child?
Horrid people.

Maybe VF should do a few hits on Nancy Pelosi, a real evil witch.

Wills on September 3, 2010 at 8:40 AM

I hope that my hitting that “KP” link will not mean that I start getting messages from Ms. Powers.

I have my quota of insipid liberals in my life and if I start hearing from KP, I’ll need to don my tinfoil hat again. It helps to keep my head from exploding.

The rumor is that the media is so bereft of bright news helping the Dems that they are going to have to resort to hatchet jobs on every Republican with a pulse. Hunting season for the Tea Party was always assumed to be a given and major awards are waiting for the journalist who REALLY hurts the movement!

Hold your breath for the OPEDS on the Discovery Channel loon And be happy that he wasn’t at Beck’s rally.

IlikedAUH2O on September 3, 2010 at 9:13 AM

On KP’s racist piece:

Move to an inner city neighborhood and lack a limo for you and hubby.

Write back to me about racism in about three years. Idiot.

IlikedAUH2O on September 3, 2010 at 9:18 AM

Can’t believe I wasted the time it took to read that VF article. What a load of crap. Some people don’t like her! She and her husband sometimes argue! Sometimes her kids criticize things she does! Tradespeople servicing her entourage don’t always get tipped generously!

This is what passes for investigative reporting at VF? Sad.

AZCoyote on September 3, 2010 at 9:21 AM

This is what passes for investigative reporting at VF? Sad.

AZCoyote on September 3, 2010 at 9:21 AM

There is only one named source in the whole piece.

It is entirely speculative and not supported by anything other than this author’s interpretation of what all the un-named sources may or may not have actually said.

Who knows if these sources actually even exist.

If some of them were completely fictional, who would know?

Does anyone really believe that two attractive healthy people, married for 20 years with five children do not sleep in the same bed?
Or throw canned food at each other all the time?

Does anyone really believe that the hunting and fishing part of Sarah’s biography is a carefully calculated phony construct to fool people into thinking she is someone she is not?

Does anyone really believe Sarah is nasty to people who work in the places she stays and dines in when on the road, unless a camera happens to be present?

Does anyone really believe Sarah is mentally ill with clinical psychological delusions?

Support her or not, agree with her politically or not, these assertions from the article are simply stupid on their face, so over the top and personal, so conveniently targeted at those parts of Sarah Palin’s story and profile that people find most appealing.

It only reinforces her message about the liberals and the media vs. conservatives.

These morons are helping her with proving how corrupt the press is in our country today.

The smarter libs recognize this, while the foaming at the mouth types are the only ones who lap this up.

November is coming, and I can see it from my house.

Kal Penn…. that was a weird story. Apparently he was mugged in DuPont Circle and his Blackberry or phone was stolen. The Hillbuzz Boys wrote some intriguing posts on it.

Cody1991 on September 2, 2010 at 7:43 PM

No mystery. He was down there looking for a guy to give him a BJ. It’s a high risk lifestyle.

Blake on September 3, 2010 at 11:02 AM

Brian1972 on September 3, 2010 at 10:45 AM

Yep. Outrageous on their face is a good description. I don’t feel sorry at all for the leftards whining about how they were treated poorly in the article. They weren’t. I don’t think they were all promised anonymity. Their gripe is now they see how stupid they really appear to other more sane people.

Blake on September 3, 2010 at 11:05 AM

I would bet that Vanity Fair’s monthly circulation is less than Sarah Palin’s Facebook membership, which is a little over 2,165,000 last time I looked.

Losers.

Brian1972 on September 3, 2010 at 11:14 AM

I’m buying this issue just so I have a record for posterity of how crazy the gov makes these people. Well, that and for the Lohan pictures.

wouldn’t you want to make extra, extra sure that the details are perfectly accurate?

I’m sure they would be extra, extra careful if they had any juicy tidbits to dish out … but it seems they don’t so they just make cra up. That seems to be routine when it comes to Palin.

darwin on September 2, 2010 at 6:44 PM

My impression is VF is relying on what readers they may still have not noticing that what they’re printing is “made up.” They assume they can print “made up…cra p” because whoever reads VF doesn’t care or doesn’t question, they’re too busy relishing some sort of ‘limp’ indulgences deemed celebrity gossip or, otherwise, what’s “trendy” among other limpists.

That rot they published on Palin does emphasize to what degree VF is utter cra p itself.

I think the best option would be ‘ignoring’ from here on out.

BigWyo on September 2, 2010 at 6:58 PM

Agree, but I like a fighter. I like to see her draw and quarter, skin, BBQ and serve up those fem-males that keep trying to hit her.

Nah, AP is just linking the stories and doing his job of keeping interest up.

But the problem with the Palin-smear strategy is that it isn’t working. Her influence isn’t diminishing; quite the opposite, it appears.

ddrintn on September 2, 2010 at 9:19 PM

Here’s what I think AP accomplishes (not what’s been suggested to the contrary, though): since most of us here in Hot Air comments don’t read too many (if any, in my case) Leftwing sites, nor their media otherwise for the most part (when it can be avoided) (such as HuffPo, the only visits I’ve ever made to HuffPo is when there’s a link in a news search that I can’t find elsewhere as to “perspective” on an issue important to me — from usually the polar opposite perspective of what HuffPo will inevitably ‘report’)…

Anyway, since most here don’t read too many if any Leftwing sources, or want to, AP prints many of the blatantly Leftwing screed-jibes at Palin and that assists ME, for one, in becoming more aware of all that rot that’s out there among the Left where Palin is concerned (as also others and other issues).

I never assume that by printing this information here (links, headlines, etc.), that it represents AP PUSHING that information — not in any promotional way, as in, “buy this” — but that he ‘pushes’ it in such a fashion as it can be seen, exposed, discussed, thwarted if we all act accordingly from an opposite political view.

Lourdes on September 3, 2010 at 9:56 PM

Limp and Impotent. LOL. A little below the belt? A little sexual? I dunno, Sarah.

Well I would give you points if it was just the articles linked but allah’s post themselves dwell on the neg highlight all the negs, falls for all the double standards.

you have to take both into account. His blog posts on Palin reinforce why he post anti-palin crap links in the headlines.
