Video: Recovery Summer Vacation

posted at 10:55 am on September 1, 2010 by Ed Morrissey

Heritage has a new video out spoofing the popular Vacation series of movies while blasting the “Recovery Summer” PR campaign from the White House.  The familiar theme music helps set the mood for a fun-loving look at the cynical attempt to get the American public to quit believing what they see and instead agree to get taken for a ride by Barack Obama, Joe Biden, Nancy Pelosi, Christine Romer, and Robert Gibbs.  Whether it’s the notion that unemployment benefits are the “biggest stimulus” for an economy to the claim that government can spend its way out of debt, the comedy just keeps on coming from the Obama administration and its allies in Congress.  The only problem is that the joke is on us:

Blowback

Very cute but some parts were hard to hear. What exactly was Gibbs saying?

carbon_footprint on September 1, 2010 at 11:04 AM

I feel yer pain Doughboy.

Well, at least it will still be there in four hours when I get home.

Jim708 on September 1, 2010 at 11:05 AM

Gibbs was talking about adding an “inflateable exit” to his office. Reference to that steward who freaked out on the plane and slid down the exit with a couple of beers. I wish Gibbs wold add one and the use it!

milwife88 on September 1, 2010 at 11:05 AM

I know how you feel, Doughboy. I can’t watch them at work either.

Not sure. He words where similar to hearing the adults in a Peanut’s cartoon.

I just want that chart at the end.

Lies! All Lies! The economy is improving! Green shoots everywhere! The public is deliriously happy with everything the current administration is accomplishing. Barry has world leaders eating out of his hand. Everything is so stable we don’t even need a fiscal budget for next year!

More Kool Aid?

Ok, that song will be stuck in my head the rest of the day

cmsinaz on September 1, 2010 at 11:08 AM

Sound mixing needs work.

I want someone to do one of these using Jim Carrey’s “Liar, Liar” as the basis.

Which song is it? “Holiday Road” by Lindsey Buckingham?

Yes.

Last paragraph in Obama’s speech last night:

I have been working tirelessly, (between vacations and rounds of golf), to shred the Constitution and create a government based on collectivism to glorify my existence. I’ve spent close to two trillion dollars of your hard earned money in just a short year and a half. Not even Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, or “the Party” thought I could pull this off. Only the liberal mainstream media had faith in my abilities to spend this nation into a financial depression in which there is no return.

Could we say Obama has expanded contributed to the “war on poverty”?

Rovin on September 1, 2010 at 11:14 AM

Seconds remaining until Lindsey Buckingham threatens to sue for unauthorized use of his song and gets this pulled (and gets a ton of publicity over it, a la Heart, a la David Byrne, etc.):

5… 4…

I love Hertitage, the missus is a card-carrying member, but c’mon. You can’t just lift a music track and use it outright.

Man, I haven’t taken a vacation in 3 years and my company is circling the drain in this economy. Glad to know the Administration is on the job!

Texas74 on September 1, 2010 at 11:18 AM

Need’s a “Big Voice Guy” for the voice-over work!

Tim_CA on September 1, 2010 at 11:27 AM

I’d rather have them all vacate.

Barry’s been back on the premises for 24 hours now. Is a golf outing scheduled for today? Those speeches glorifying our troops must have been emotionally draining for him.

Kind of appropriate and ironic, since the Clintons had “Don’t Stop” as their theme song during the 1992 election and the two years afterwards, before the ’94 midterm debacle. Democratic presidents and songs by Fleetwood Mac members just don’t go together very well.

jon1979 on September 1, 2010 at 11:34 AM

Near ther end I guess that was a chart of ‘the number of jobs deflated or lost…’

Romer is the only one who has the sense to jump ship before the you-know-what hits the fan! So did the OMB guy. I’m waiting to hear what Nobel Prize Winning physicist Peter Chu has to say about all this. Afterall, didn’t he plug the hole in the Gulf? Maybe he can plug the hole in the economy too?
