Deval Patrick on Beck rally: “It’s a free country. I wish it weren’t.”

posted at 5:52 pm on September 1, 2010 by Ed Morrissey

And you thought that a libtalker declaring a public space too sacred for God would be the dumbest quote from the Left on the Restoring Honor rally hosted by Glenn Beck.  Michael Graham from Boston’s WTKK posts a clip of Governor Deval Patrick responding to a question about the rally by noting first that it’s a free country — and then that he’s not terribly happy about that, either:

The clip actually goes on for much longer as Graham and his producer have a blast with it.  Graham calls it a Kinsleyan gaffe, noting that if anyone asked Patrick if he liked that the US was a free country, he’d almost certainly say “Yes!”  But do Patrick’s policy choices and that of his party actually stand for freedom — or something else?   Be sure to follow the link back to Graham’s clip and listen to him make a larger political point about the Democratic agenda.

WannabeAnglican on September 1, 2010 at 6:07 PM

The real problem that I see is twofold, first, he truly believes what he said, deep down, he beleives that he (or his party) should be the only ones to control and define what is “free speech”. Secondly, not a single Democrat in Mass will call on him to resign after hearing this. It will boil down to either; he was taken out of context, or he was misquoted, or some other nonsense.

AZCoyote on September 1, 2010 at 6:08 PM

Haw haw! Local talk-show host Michael Graham talked about this today on his talk show. I was hoping it would go national.

It’s amazing how many peeps called in and said he was saying he wished that Beck did not have his rally at the Lincoln Memorial (he sees that as sacred, but NOT where the GZM will be) in lieu of him saying HE WISHED IT WERE NOT A FREE COUNTRY. It was so sad.

If this freak-show fraud (Son of ZerObama) gets re-elected, there is no help for mASSachusetts. Do not try to say us, just save yourselves.

This effete fraud makes ZerObama look like he can’t move due to too much testosterone. He said he would cut property taxes (never did) and raised the sales tax to 6.25% (from 5%). If he gets re-elected, we get what we truly deserve.

(If the audio is posted, I’d like to draw attention to the male host. A total Red Diaper Doper Baby but I have to say…he’s the one Liberal I have come across that actually makes Liberalism (if one didn’t know any better) sound good (we know it’s rotten to the core). He should be the new COLMES on Fox.)

they really don’t want debate…lie, cheat, steal…or whatever…that’s their MO.
