Video: The greatest action sequence of all time

posted at 6:25 pm on August 31, 2010 by Allahpundit

Something sweet to cleanse the palate before The One’s Iraq speech and the final results of the Miller/Murkowski nail-biter up north. Don’t ask me why this is suddenly going viral today. The YouTube gods work in mysterious ways; it is not for us to question, but rather to give thanks.

Two thoughts here. First, no American filmmaker has ever produced a scene this good and no American filmmaker ever will. We’re beat, so let’s accept defeat gracefully. Second, try as I might, I can’t figure out a way to turn this into a “Metaphor of the Day.” It’s simply too convoluted. Maybe something related to ObamaCare, with the Democrats’ midterm hopes represented by the helicopter and the left’s obsession with socialized medicine represented by the jeep? But then … who’s the guy throwing the sword? Paul Ryan, maybe? I’m so confused.

Are we really going to get final results tonight? I read in one of those linked blogs that they could be counting up until Sept 8?

RushBaby on August 31, 2010 at 6:27 PM

no American filmmaker has ever produced a scene this good and no American filmmaker ever will.

Alan Ball would have put sex in it?

RushBaby on August 31, 2010 at 6:30 PM

Gretch had the sword .. yeah, that’s it.

pambi on August 31, 2010 at 6:30 PM

I can’t figure out a way to turn this into a “Metaphor of the Day.”

AP, I have a feeling you’re about to have a lot of suggestions,

Mr_Magoo on August 31, 2010 at 6:30 PM

Best part of that was already done in Live Free or Die Hard.

A great big heaping helping of AWESOME.

Thanks, AP.

Splashman on August 31, 2010 at 6:33 PM

I think we’re losing the context in this little masterpiece here. There’s got to be some underlying themes that just aren’t adequately explained fully by the clip itself. I mean, how do you escape the impossibly tilted rotor blades of a helicopter that is going to kill you, get saved by your buddy who does an Olympic-level difficulty jeep jump that goes farther than Evel Kneivel’s Snake River Canyon jump, only to get winged by a flying sword and fall to your death? I mean, who does that? there’s got to be more to the story….

RushBaby on August 31, 2010 at 6:27 PM

You are correct. The counting will not be finished today.

joejm65 on August 31, 2010 at 6:34 PM

Wasn’t that same kind of scene in Die Hard 4?

Free Constitution on August 31, 2010 at 6:34 PM

It’s slo-Joe’s visualization of the Obama economic plan.

notagool on August 31, 2010 at 6:34 PM

Oil Can on August 31, 2010 at 6:36 PM

He did chop off the guy’s RIGHT arm so perhaps it’s a statement about the political right. The woman is really hot so there might be a meme here I’m missing.

Mojave Mark on August 31, 2010 at 6:36 PM

Bollywood babez r hawt.

Purple Fury on August 31, 2010 at 6:36 PM

Except for the Sword, it was a remake of the Live Free or Die Hard scene with Bruce Willis.

barnone on August 31, 2010 at 6:36 PM

Maybe it’s a metaphor about how close we are to failing as a country.

It’s going to take not one but TWO very unlikely miracles to save this country from the brink:

–>Conservatives winning the house and senate…
–>and then having the republicans do the right thing for once.

Chaz706 on August 31, 2010 at 6:36 PM

First, no American filmmaker has ever produced a scene this good and no American filmmaker ever will.

Bruce Willis did something similar to a chopper with a car in Die Hard 2 or 3.

The arm severing bit was pretty cool though.

EnglishMike on August 31, 2010 at 6:36 PM

W T F

Jaibones on August 31, 2010 at 6:37 PM

I’ll give it a go for metaphor of the day.

The guy with the sword represents Glen Beck/and or all the people at his rally saturday. The Helicopter represents the democrat controled legislative branch the Jeep represents the democrat control executive branch Obama is the driver and the woman represents liberty see the statue in NY harbor to understand. How’d I do allahpundit? BTW is this the first post? Reminds me of the hotair days when it was just michelle & bryan running things with this lil intern allahpundit occasionally blogging LOL

Kevin43 on August 31, 2010 at 6:37 PM

Okay… that was pretty sweet.

But where was the Megashark?

JohnGalt23 on August 31, 2010 at 6:37 PM

I think I heard the bearded man yell “Buuuuuuuush!” the whole way down.

stevezilla on August 31, 2010 at 6:37 PM

Bollywood man, some crazy stuff.

I imagine there was some wild 10 minute song-and-dance routine right after this that made absolutely no sense. But it kicked.

SteveMG on August 31, 2010 at 6:38 PM

The values and tactics that make Jihadists so despicable are the same values and tactics embraced by our own homegrown fundamentalists — the American Taliban.

That’s why I wrote the book American Taliban: How War, Sex, Sin, and Power Bind Jihadists and the Radical Right.

In the book, I show how similar both the American Taliban and Islamic Jihadists are — from their fetishization of violence and guns, to their love of theocracy, to their hatred of women and gays, to their fear of scientific progress and education, to their weird hangups about sex, to their disdain for popular culture.

I’ve got to say, I’m pretty proud of this book. It’s my best yet. And I’m definitely enjoying the hysteria over it from our friends on the Right. Turns out, they’d rather people not make the obvious connections between them and their supposed enemies!

OT: Not that I was going to watch ZERO’s speach, but find it funny that it would be on at 5 PM Pacific when most are stuck in traffic getting home. The only people in Cali watching will be the unemployed or the retired.

jbh45 on August 31, 2010 at 6:39 PM

The helicopter is surely Bob Beckel and other democrat hacks. Lots of hot air.

SouthernGent on August 31, 2010 at 6:39 PM

I think it’s a metaphor for the election in 2012, with Todd Palin being the guy with the sword rescuing President-elect Palin as President Obama tries to foil her inauguration.

Or something.

irishspy on August 31, 2010 at 6:39 PM

Its simple. Obama has the Helo in (D) and the GOP put the car in (R) and smashed the One’s plans.

Then Mike Huckabee tried to steal Sarah’s glory but gets cut off by Glenn Beck’s Honor sword rally

William Amos on August 31, 2010 at 6:40 PM

The helicopter represents Hope’n’Change. The car that slams into it is reality. The guy trying to drag the girl off the cliff is the Democratic Party. The girl is the US economy. The guy throwing the sword is the electorate.

Or something.

EnglishMike on August 31, 2010 at 6:40 PM

That’s the way it would be in Baghdad if we didn’t take out Usa & Quesa or however you spell Saddam’s Boys.

Ahh..revenge.

Sweet revenge.

Lockstein13 on August 31, 2010 at 6:42 PM

no, wait, I get it. The helicopter is the DNC majority in the house. The chick is Obamacare. First, the guy loses majority (heli) but hey at least he has the chick (socialized medicine) until, oh, I don’t know, Sarah Palin (the dude with the sword) uses the power of Jebus (the sword) (which is probably what the left thinks she thinks) to kill Obamacare soon. Or the sword could be her endorsement of Miller…or just plain old Scott Brown.

joeindc44 on August 31, 2010 at 6:43 PM

Saw this clip a couple of weeks ago. Am very disappointed in this sequence. It’s a Bollywood movie for heavens sake, where’s the singing and the dancing?

Is that guy driving the car the dude from the Golimar video?

Goldenavatar on August 31, 2010 at 6:51 PM

Nah, the best action sequence was Violet jumping her motorcycle through the open doors on the Huey while the door gunner was attempting to restart a new belt.

Any of the martial arts sequences in Violet(2006) were better than this crude animation.

Anything from any of John Woo’s old movies (the ones he made in Hong Kong with Chow Yun Fat, before he came to Hollywood and started churning out worthless piles of dung with John Travolta and Nicolas Cage) was better than this.

Also, Kos should die. He can read anything into that he likes.

Cylor on August 31, 2010 at 6:55 PM

The helicopter is the Murkowski campaign. The SUV is Palin’s ascension, taking Murkowski down on her way up.

The women is the election Murkowski’s peeps might be trying to steal. The swordsman is Miller to the rescue.

And this video is the closest thing to the Humpbot we’re going to get to celebrate Miller’s victory.

Terrie on August 31, 2010 at 6:55 PM

I saw a comment that said that this was MAGADHEERA. And if that’s true…then there ARE SONGS. :)
