Quotes of the day
posted at 10:35 pm on August 31, 2010 by Allahpundit
“There is a strong conservative case to be made in favor of gay marriage,” former McCain campaign manager and fellow same-sex marriage fundraiser Steve Schmidt told the Huffington Post on Tuesday. “Marriage is an institution that strengthens and stabilizes society. It is an institution that has the capacity to bring profound joy and happiness to people and it is a matter of equality and keeping faith of one of the charters of the nation, the right to live your life…
As one prominent Republican who supports gay rights put it:
“I think there is a growing mass of people in Republican politics who are fundamentally sick and tired about being lectured to about morality and how to live your life by a bunch of people who have been married three or four times and are more likely to be seen outside a brothel on a Thursday night than being at home with their kids… There is a fundamental indecency to the vitriol and the hatred directed against decent people because of their sexuality. People have reached a critical mass with this.”

Well I’ll just throw this historical bomb out there….the destruction of the family unit…man/wife/children has preceeded every nation/empire’s destruction. It has been shown it is the family that holds the nation/empire together. From the USSR to Rome the story is the same…destory the family and you destory the nation.
Communists made it one of their top agend items in their war against the USA.

If you’re not going to discriminate based on “sexual orientation”, then you must not discriminate against any of the following. Bestiality, pedophile, necrophilia., exhibitionism, fetishism, frotteurism, masochism, sadism, transvestitism, voyeurism. If you discriminate against any of these, you’re a hypocrite.

Look as a single parent I understand my child has not had as good of an unbringing as I did. He is missing out on alot of stuff that a mother could have given to him. A child needs a mother and a father to be as complete a spossible. can single parents raise good kids? sure Can gay couples do it? sure. but the fact is the child gets more from having both sexes raise them then one.
and when all is said and done about marriage its main goal since time began was to raise children.

Funny you didn’t mention polyamory, ’cause that’s about the only other one that I would support. The first six types don’t even involve two or more consenting adults, thus moot or incompatible with individual liberty (which by the way, was the main principle I employed). S&M are legal today, as long as they are voluntary and not severe. I’ll support your right to dress a different gender any day. And voyeurism is obvious.

seriously there are studies that show rat populations will turn gay if no females are around. Or it could be a ressive gene like blue eyes, it could be upbringing, chemicals in the water like estrogen, could be a lack of certain hormones during their formation as babies or young adults.
could be alot of reasons why gays are around in all societies in all times…
could also just be a lack of self control like the rat population…. hard to say….

Unfortunately it appears that romney has done the same, fallen for the idea that a candidate cannot be elected without doing it the washington way. He has surrounded himself with the same types. pawlenty, santorum, cantor, bennett, hewitt, medved. These guys are all of the same cloth as mccain, don’t be fooled. It’s about the direction of society, and normalizing unusual types of sexuality. There’s some evidence of a growing gender identity confusion in kids, not to mention sexual orientation confusion. Society’s messages matter in the formation of sexual orientation, gender identity, and related person issues. It’s simplistic to say “they were born that way”. There is both nature and nurture. Society’s messages matter. What message do we want to send.

Better idea: just tell the government to leave marriage alone. Hands off. It’s not yours to redefine or to tell anyone else what marriages to accept or not.
Because this whole push for gay marriage is a push for the government to dictate to everyone else that you must accept two men as married or two women as married just as much as a normal couple.
It is entirely a push for government activism. If the government does nothing, then marriage continues as it was before the government stuck its nose in where it didn’t belong.
It’s always phrased as “allowing” gay marriage, but the course of action asked for is for the government to dictate to everyone else that a homosexual marriage is “just as good” as the real thing.
That’s what government is: the exclusive application of force. Every bit of the push for same-sex marriage is for the government to do something.
And this business about “getting the government out of the business of marriage” starts from the false premise that the government is somehow in the ” of marriage.
Does the government run some sort of a matchmaker business to hook up potential couples? Maybe the government sells mail-order brides, like it used to sell land in the west? Or is the idea that people fill out an application for marriage, and then go to a marriage placement business, like they do the state employment office?
The government is not in the business of marriage. Not yet. But every push to force same-sex marriage is a call to get the government into the business of marriage, in a way that it has never been before.

Government, especially under the fascists, will never give ground. The whole reason government got into the marriage business was to protect women and children. The only way to protect them is to control them. The government has no problem with gay marriage because it will give them control over even more people. The pathetic gays who think cramming gay marriage down the rest of societies throats, no pun intended, will make their self loathing go away have no clue. They will still hate themselves and the government will be deep, again no pun intended, into their sh@#%.

Kini on September 1, 2010 at 1:08 AM
Not only is that not a conservative argument, but it’s not even a logical argument. There are no restrictions on gay people getting married. None. No gay person has been denied marriage rights because they are gay.
The problem is that they don’t want marriage, because they’re not interested in the opposite sex. And marriage has always been between two members of the opposite sex.
So instead they invent this whole rhetoric about how if marriage doesn’t appeal to gay people, then gay people are being deprived. Their solution is not to allow gay people to get married. They already have that right.
Their solution is to declare that marriage must be redefined so it includes couplings with the same sex.
And in demanding that redefinition by the force of government they effectively overrule the 98% of the people who are normal so they can claim to be “protecting” the rights
for the 2%.
In so doing they harm the institution of marriage itself and trample the religious freedom of everyone who objects to the idea of gay marriage, or to the attempt to normalize a sexual deviancy, in favor of their own desire.
There is no conservative case for same-sex marriage. There are just confused conservatives who buy the old feel-good liberalism because they’ve been convinced that all homosexuals are born that way and can’t change.

Try to use logic and not emotion. Truth can only be defined as an outcome or result of choices that are established by observed and actionable events. Nice try but you really did mean to lump a whole lot of people together. While far too many people do divorce one reality is that people do live longer and there are lots of divorces later in life when not too long ago people never expected to live that long.

The conservative position in Gay marriage should be that it needs to be passed by a vote rather than by judicial fiat and that it be a matter for each state to decide rather than the federal government.

Terrye on September 1, 2010 at 6:55 AM
Just my two cents to toss in here, but, if this country can find the right to have an abortion in the constitution, we will eventually have gay marriage defined as a right guaranteed by the US Constitution and reinforced by numerous SCOTUS rulings. It is inevitable. And that will lead to a host of other issues, some of which are listed above.
Johnnyreb on September 1, 2010 at 7:11 AM
Yes they have. It is called the march to maturity – no surprise that 20 somethings are overly idealistic whether it is for conservatism or liberalism. The only thing that has changed is the internet and cable networks which give a greater number of them a platform to share their ..er.. wisdom.
Society will be okay – relax.
Bradky on September 1, 2010 at 7:28 AM
Neither the hard core conservatives or hard core liberals want the gay marriage issue or abortion to go back to the states so that issues such as this can really be decided by the voters and if merited a push for an amendment to the constitution through the state legislatures.
Why? Because both sides are not confident that the outcome of the voters would be entirely to their liking.
But it makes for great sound bites to scare voters into their camp.
Bradky on September 1, 2010 at 7:30 AM
This is all to be expected. As we move away from God as a country we move away from any objective basis for morality. Thus, everything becomes OK. As people get more and more acclimated to devient behavior they descend farther and farhter down the ladder of dysfunction. When nothing is wrong then everything is right. Or as the Marquis De Sade put it, “Whatever is, is right”. Eventually the only thing “wrong” is callilng something wrong. And we are pretty much there.
tommyboy on September 1, 2010 at 7:32 AM

cmsinaz on September 1, 2010 at 7:54 AM
God is not “objective.” Many people do not believe in a supernatural sky father/being.
Heck – many Christians can’t even agree which is the proper way to worship as a Christian. That’s why we have Catholics and Protestants.
Religion, and religious morality, is entirely subjective.
Physical reality is objective.

The divorces that society has a stake in are the ones where dependent children are involved. Those, along with single moms, have become an increasing problem over the past 50 years.
Longevity, contributes some additional divorces. Those divorces usually violate the vows the couple took together, though society has less of a stake in them than where dependent children are involved.
Where gay couples have children, affording the same tax treatment to the family provides an additional level of stability for the children’s development.

pugwriter on September 1, 2010 at 8:25 AM
Right, and that belief is subjective. It is not universal, nor is it unanimous.
Hence, religion and religious morality is subjective.
Good Lt on September 1, 2010 at 8:27 AM
And the founders purposely separated religion and state. If the citizens decide it is the time to allow gay marriage (through the constitutional process not by judicial fiat) you should have no objection.
Bradky on September 1, 2010 at 8:28 AM
That makes no sense at all. Some people used to belief the earth was flat – did that make the shape of the earth entirely subjective? People used to believe the sun orbited the earth. Did this make the movement of celestial bodies purely subjective? Universality of belief (or lack thereof) has nothing to do with objective reality. The fact some people are deluded about a matter has nothing to do with its realilty. This is logic 101. “Let God be true and every man a liar”

Given the fact that neither same sex marriage nor abortion are Constitutionally-guaranteed rights and that enacting both does and will restrain Liberty and the rights of others unduly, if they’re passed, they should be passed by referenda of the several states or in their legislatures.
Roe v. Wade needs to be overturned, as does Walker’s Prop 8 ruling.
Both are egregious instances of judicial tyranny.
Jenfidel on September 1, 2010 at 8:48 AM
The First Amendment protects freedom of religion, it does not guarantee not freedom from it. The establishment clause prevents the adoption of a State sponsored church, not the separation of religion, and its tenets, from public affairs.
pugwriter on September 1, 2010 at 8:49 AM
Agreed. Republicans open themselves up for dissection and defeat when they tread into moral issues with a heavy footprint they cannot sustain. We have proven election after election that the general populace does not want morality police trodding on them and judging them.
D’s don’t even have to poke us, we provide our own exclusionary litmus tests.allowing bad democrat candidates to be elected often because our candidate, although a better choice, was not good enough for the morality police.
MarkT on September 1, 2010 at 8:49 AM
Actually, they did not.
That is a myth: while the Bill of Rights guarantees Freedom of Religion and that Congress shall establish no state religion, there is no language mandating a “separation of church and state.”
That is in an informal letter Thomas Jefferson wrote to a committee of a CT Baptist Church, not our founding documents.
Jenfidel on September 1, 2010 at 8:52 AM
Which translates to the voters can participate in the democratic and constitutional process based on their personal beliefs, religious leanings and the like – period.
Bradky on September 1, 2010 at 8:52 AM
Preserving Traditional Marriage and the Family has nothing to do with the “morality police.”
The burden is on the homosexual community to prove that allowing same sex marriage is a merited change in public policy–a burden they have failed to meet.
If you’re also calling the murder of the unborn merely a matter of the “morality police” that conservatives should drop because it loses us elections, I will gladly choose to lose elections then.
50 million dead babies since Roe v. Wade was passed is more than enough.
Jenfidel on September 1, 2010 at 8:56 AM
So which is preferable then, IYO?
In one post, you said it should be left to the judges and now in a later one you indicate that it should be left to the voters, when you’re corrected on what’s Constitutional and what is not…
Jenfidel on September 1, 2010 at 8:58 AM
No, and likewise, believing fervently in the existence of the supernatural doesn’t make the supernatural exist.
Good Lt on September 1, 2010 at 9:02 AM
It does, actually.
Using the guns of the government to enforce distinctions in personal and sexual relationships between two consenting individuals, and then denying them certain benefits and privileges granted to others in favor of their relationships, is using the government to police morality.
You don’t like homosexuals? Fine. I don’t see what the government’s role in that has to be. And you have yet to articulate it.

Oops, I missed the second half, which is even stupider than the first half:
This is odd to me because I don’t see any vitriol and hatred directed against decent people because of their sexuality.
