Beeler on the SS Denial

posted at 10:30 am on August 29, 2010 by Ed Morrissey

Or, alternately, perhaps this could be called the SS Hey It Could Be Worse!  Either way, our hearts will go on after ramming the economy into the iceberg of Obamanomics.  So far, the motto of this administration seems to be “Never let go!” as the ship slips below the surface …

When Glen Beck said that yesterday at the Lincoln Memorial, I thought, if the Third Mate had given the helm and throttle orders “All back full; Steady as she goes” the Titanic would not have sunk.

Geeky damage control and stability lesson skipped.

“He’s the King of the World” — that was almost as funny as the cartoon. Good one!

KS Rex on August 29, 2010 at 10:48 AM

It’s just like the Titanic…only the sub-moronic captain of the ship is the only one who survives.

The real crime of Obama’s policies is that he’s one person guaranteed not to personally suffer from their effects.

That’s the whole point behind liberalism. Other get to suffer for their idiocy, while they get shrimp and extravagant vacations.

Tommy_G on August 29, 2010 at 11:18 AM

Any one catch that the only lifeboat in the cartoon is also “up-side-down”?

Beeler should do a sequel to this with Obama throwing some one an anchor.

Rovin on August 29, 2010 at 11:22 AM

This cartoon is missing all the various Marxists drilling holes in the ship.

faraway on August 29, 2010 at 11:24 AM

Sadly, he doesn’t give a rat’s ass. This week he’ll be doing the Pantload Shuffle: Coming off yet another vacation, taking credit for Iraq, and hieing himself down to the Gulf to revel in the fifth anniversary of Bush Bashing..er..of the Katrina disaster.

Were I he, I would be careful what I wish for, however.

It sucks to be Obama right now. I think the realization that the Emperor has no clothes is steadily dawning. But, please Beeler, spare us THAT cartoon.

DrStock on August 29, 2010 at 11:45 AM

It should say S.S. American Way, as it isn’t just the economy.

Morning all.

Agreed. The better thing to do is give him command of a nice comfortable lifeboat — complete with his metal ball-bearings and all the frozen strawberries he wants — in November that we can tow behind us while we fix the damage and until we arrive in port in 2012.

Does the VP sound at all convincing to you when they trot him out to give yet another stupid analogy about how well the economy is doing but(always a but) not as fast we we’d like to see it. Why are there still Americans who believe this tripe? Next up the charlatan in chief with a lie about how he single handedly ended the Iraq war.

Kissmygrits on August 29, 2010 at 12:28 PM

You know what obama needs to shore up his approval rating – a major war. Americans do not dump wartime presidents. The irony is that the Left has to hope for a major war to save their messiah. Now, let me see, Israel will probably attack Iran in the next two years drawing in the US in a major conflagration . . .

He’s NOT King Of The World…… But he thinks he is and acts like it most of the time.

Big difference.

At some point in the near future, I have a feeling our humble but lovable Dictator In Training Pants™ will have a real comeuppance and it’ll be his own Marxist-Jihadi party (The Democrats) who will do something about it.

My gut tells me that it’ll be ‘my people’ (Teh Eeeeevil Jooooooooooos) and Israel that’ll be the ‘dump his arse’ tipping point.

Cheers !

True, he doesn’t really care which way it goes. If he gets an orderly socialist reorganization of our entire country, he wins. If it collapses Cloward-Piven style, he wins because the far left is convinced that they will ‘win’ the chaos that results if the country breaks down.

In either case, the ruling elite have their private lifeboats at the ready. They are certain that they will come out on top.

slickwillie2001 on August 29, 2010 at 1:00 PM

I remember folks said America has had it during the Carter years. And then….

But Reagan getting in office and turning it around back in ’80 took people getting off the couch and voting him into office, then supporting him through the tough times to come.

Raising taxes is the only way to speed up the economy and make voters love you.

Go for it incumbents!

IlikedAUH2O on August 29, 2010 at 8:30 PM

The last four ‘captains’ of the USS America have mistreated their passengers, neglected vital maintenance, turned out skilled crewmen in favor of Turd-World peasants, and deliberately let it run into all manner of hazards. And the only one who was punished at all was the one who couldn’t keep his pants zipped.

There should be a job review for each US President after he or she leaves office, with the public voting on everything from if they should be barred from holding office in the future (term limits or no) to wether or not they get their big fat pensions.

If our ‘leaders’ understood that at the end of their terms they would be hauled up in front of the nation for a very public and very thorough examination – one that had personal consequences – we might just see some changes in behaviour.

AUINSC on August 29, 2010 at 10:49 AM

Huh? Captain Smith went down with the ship, it was his last trip before retiring. Are you thinking of Bruce Ismay? He was Chairman of the White Star Line and had quite a bit of ‘splaining to do when he reached the dock in NY.

Still its a very dangerous game that Obama is engaged in. Louis XVI was a nice guy too, until the starving people crashed the gates. He lost his head over that one.

Its the one part of Obamas/Soros plan that I don’t understand. You can grab the wealth of the people and destroy the economy, but after that what do you do??? Go buy korans in Indonesia???

Like I said when gas was $4.50 a gallon….so what how much the price says…they don’t HAVE ANY. When theres NOTHING to BUY, it doesn’t matter how much money you have.
