Video: When Obama talks about victory in Iraq next week …

posted at 5:17 pm on August 27, 2010 by Ed Morrissey

Jake Tapper noted that President Obama plans to address the nation to note the drawdown of combat troops in Iraq, an event that occurred while Obama vacationed at Martha’s Vineyard while Obama refused to comment on it at all. His address to the nation will no doubt salute the troops that beat a tough insurgency campaign by al-Qaeda and other terrorists to overthrow the government in Baghdad — but will probably contain a large dose of self-congratulation, too. If it does, John Boehner put together this video to remind people what Obama and his fellow Democrats said about the surge that led to the victory at the time George Bush ordered it, and how much (or little) they contributed to the victory that Obama will celebrate:

Obama does deserve credit, as I wrote earlier, for not snatching defeat from the jaws of victory by implementing his oft-proposed accelerated pullout once in office. In fact, Bush handed Obama a turnkey plan for this drawdown, including the substantial force that still remains in Iraq of almost 50,000 “advisers.” Instead of having all American troops out in 16 months, Obama instead settled for the Bush plan of having American troops out of the cities and out of offensive operations, with a large troop presence to help Baghdad maintain order.

Perhaps Obama will have the grace to admit this when the occasion presents itself next week. If he does, it will reflect well on the current Commander in Chief. If not, Boehner’s video makes the truth obvious anyway.

Must be kidding. Instead he’ll claim that

Bush handed Obama a turnkey turkey plan for this drawdown

…and that he, the Great Obama, made it into an eagle-plan.

Impertinence has reached its highest level under these thugs.

Yeah, Right, Barry will give credit to Bush when hell freezes over.

Having Obama descend from Mount Martha’s Vineyard to declare that all is well!

This was a perfect exprssion.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Oh, wait, you are serious?

Obummer was an out-of-touch, “present”-voting, empty suit as a Senator and he’s an out-of-touch, “present”-voting, empty suit as President & C-in-C. May the Good Lord help us all.

Hey, already got interrupted once on the Vineyard when buying shrimp. You don’t expect The Whine to have two interruptions, do you?

Yeah, Right, Barry will give credit to Bush when hell freezes over.

Well The Eagles are back on tour.

Not really caring to deeply how Obama addresses the nation, I just have to say God bless the troops and thank-you. Good job John Boehner.

fourdeucer on August 27, 2010 at 5:31 PM

Obama deserves credit for leaving Bush’s people in to finish the battle.

He’s simply not interested in foreign policy.

faraway on August 27, 2010 at 5:33 PM

As I said before, he will not say the words “victory” or “won” and he sure as hell is not going to admit he was wrong and Bush was right.

I wouldn’t even put it past Barry to claim the surge was a “reckless” or “unnecessary” move even though he has approved his own surge in Afganistan. The man is that Narcissistic this man is.

You really want to be sick, twice today on the top of the hour news, I was unfortunate to have to hear Ray”chocolate city” Nagin whine about Bush ignoring the poor black folk during Katrina. Can’t wait to hear Obama on Sunday rehash the horrors perpetrated on those poor people in New Orleans by Bush.

sandee on August 27, 2010 at 5:46 PM

This speech is a giant moment. If he isn’t at least somewhat truthful and gracious – a high bar, I know – he and the Democrats are finished. This will be difficult to fudge if he tries that route.

me too…wish it would be parred down to a minute somehow and shown as a commercial just before he speaks…

cmsinaz on August 27, 2010 at 5:48 PM

There was someone missing from that video. Man up, Boehner, and don’t think we didn’t notice who YOU left out!

drunyan8315 on August 27, 2010 at 5:48 PM

If every one of those 50,000 advisers dropped dead tomorrow it would put the death toll around that of the US in Vietnam. A very grim comparison (I know guys over there so I’m not making light of this.) but something to put our recent history in perspective.

WitchDoctor on August 27, 2010 at 5:49 PM

Ten bucks says he won’t even use the word win or victory. I hope I am wrong.

===========================================================

Nice job,on the video!

On a side note, early this morning AM Radio, top of the
hour News spot,in mentioning the GNP numbers, the MSM
used the words “fadeing of the Stimulus”,in reference
to the recovery,and said,that Obama was cautious,and
took a swipe at,Obama will not hang the banner,as George
W.Bush did in “Mission Accomplished”,again,on the economy!

Its a hoot to note, that no matter what area of politics,
the LibTard MSM has to get that angle in of “Mission-
Accomplished”!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That seems to be POISONOUS PHRASE that Democrats just can’t
handle!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It’s no secret that Obama didn’t support the troops or their mission when the chips were down, so he can spare us all this upcoming little performance. He’s a miserable failure, and the sooner he just leaves and hits the speech circuit, the better.

Boehner should add this clip and re-release the video. Any reports Barry provides to us require the willing suspension of disbelief.

Christien on August 27, 2010 at 6:04 PM

Very well-done video. But I think it should have shown both President Bush and John McCain as principal advocates of the Iraq mission generally and of the surge.

I am not a big McCain fan by any means, but showing him would have given him some credit where I think credit is due. Showing President Bush would be a reminder of who it was that had the moral courage to truly combat tyranny in the Middle East. And it also would have directly slapped the faces of the “blame Bush” crowd.

I’ve been seraching for a vid of Odumbo actually saying that VICTORY is a word he’d never use…. any help, y’all ??
Maybe I’ve lost my marbles, but I’m convinced he did, somewhere.
Meanwhile, I found this ..

“As a candidate for president, I pledged to bring the war in Iraq to a responsible end. Shortly after taking office, I announced our new strategy for Iraq and for a transition to full Iraqi responsibility.”

http://tinyurl.com/2c6zjyc
It’s later pointed out that he’d merely adopted the Bush policy.
What a maroon… God help us.

Don’t hold your breath. It could damage your health. Just look for a lot of “I” in Barry’s message.

One day I hope to wake up from the coma I think I’m in and find that this Marxist is not president! He’ll never give Bush credit. Boneher is highlighting congresscritters but he should have inserted a Bush clip… And that Hillary clip as well.

CCRWM on August 27, 2010 at 6:40 PM

Obama…

……….no credibility what-so-ever.

Baxter Greene on August 27, 2010 at 6:52 PM

I fully expect Obama, snobbish, snarky, arrogant, condescending, over rated, underwhelming in-Over-His-Head Amateur-in-Chief engaged in on-the-job training narcisist that he is to heap avalanches of praise upon himself and take credit for all the good, while trashing President Bush, Conservatives, and Republicans in any way Obama can trash them, and/or working to omitt them where and when he can omitt them, no matter how contrived or fabricated.

William2006 on August 27, 2010 at 6:56 PM

There is one video Obama does not want you to see: DAVID LETTERMAN JOKED ABOUT HIM BEING A ONE TERMER — AND THE AUDIENCE CHEERED AND LAUGHED!

Yeah, Right, Barry will give credit to Bush when hell freezes over.

1sttofight on August 27, 2010 at 5:23 PM

Nah… not even then. More like when hell freezes over, the Detroit Lions win the Super Bowl and Brett Farve actually retires. ;-)

So is “surrender monkeys” no longer allowed?

On the bright side Obama has decided not to prosecute the USS Cole bomber!

DSchoen on August 27, 2010 at 7:30 PM

Obama will congratulate the Muslim people of Iraq for their victory.

(I’ve heard he cannot even pronounce the letter W.)

Ed, I’ll make a bet with you, a beer at Keeghan’s (sic?) Irish Pub next time I get to the MSP area that he does not.

Don’t you know it is all about him?

I will be watching the DVR or de-hairballing the cat. Anything but Barry.

See if you can figure this out: FUDL

DSchoen on August 27, 2010 at 7:30 PM

DSchoen,

At least our Savior, Messiah, Leader, The One, Mister Hope and Change, our wonderful, Best president, Barack Hussein Obama (Peace be Unto Him. Praise His Holy Name. Let every head bow in adoration to Him. Let everyone prostrate himself and herself before him, at His Holy Feet, Surrender their lives, Hopes, and Dreams to Him, and Serve Him with every thought, word, and deed for all eternity) and his Attorney General, Eric Holder, and their associates, have their priorities straight.

Think of how backed up, and over croweded the courts would be if our nation’s AG, and our president actually DID prosecute the bad guys, Islamofascist militant, hate filled, violent, rabid blood and death cult members of the Religion of Peace, Love, Tolerance, Understanding, Mercy, Compassion, cute little bunnies, cute little puppies, cute little kittens, etc.?

No. Our President, The Wise One, the Savior, and AG Holder, et al, have their priorities straight and know it is better to prosecute, attack, demonize, and indict US citizens, US governors, etc, for standing up for our nation.

The gov’u'mint must make certain that the schedule is clear to go after the Governor of Arizona, the State of Arizona, the People of Arizona, the opposition to the “Ground Zero” mosque project, Pro-lifers, US military personnel – soldiers, fighting the bad gusy, etc.

What a great president and administration! (sarcasm = off)

William2006 on August 27, 2010 at 8:40 PM

Very well done video. Gave me chills and brought a tear to my eye. Thank you indeed. Cursed be those who refused to support this war and who constantly tried to drag us down. We have prevailed.

A big thank you to all of our troops who have served in Iraq and Afghanistan, including those who are there now. Our current fool of a president didn’t have faith in your ability to get the job done, but real Americans did. We are deeply grateful to you for your courage and service, and we will continue to fight this administration to make sure your votes are counted!
