Friday night bombshell: Petraeus is … an Enya fan

posted at 7:40 pm on August 27, 2010 by Allahpundit

I don’t know. This is like finding out that Patton was into orchids.

I’ve never questioned his judgment before. I’m questioning it now.

GRIFFIN: Is there any music that you particularly like? Are you a classical music guy? Are you a pop, are you a Taylor Swift guy?

PETRAEUS: No, no. I’m an Enya guy. I don’t know if Enya’s still –

GRIFFIN: Enya?

PETRAEUS: I haven’t bought a CD in years.

GRIFFIN: Oh, that is hysterical.

PETRAEUS: I do like Celtic music. And Enya is among those and that kind of thing.

I always figured stone-cold warriors were into, er, Cheap Trick and Blue Oyster Cult. Imagine my surprise. Two nice things about this, though: (1) Now we know for sure that he’ll never run for president, and (2) public respect for Petraeus is such that his endorsement can transform the endorsee’s image almost instantaneously. I never thought I’d ask this question, but I guess I have to: Dude, is Enya now officially badass?

In honor of the moment, I give you Hot Air’s new victory music. If the GOP cleans up on election night, we shall rock hard to this triumphant groove. Exit question: Is Stan McChrystal a Lisa Loeb fan or something?

Update (Ed): Get this man some Chieftains or Lunasa, stat!

The Enya of my Enya is my Friend ?

William Amos on August 27, 2010 at 7:42 PM

If a soldier as tough as Petreus wants to listen to Enya, good for him.

I only like one Enya Song.

Whenever Enya is brought up, I always think of this commercial. Not that Enya comes up in my conversations. Never.

It’s good.

Dude. HA has reached a new milestone.

I’m actually not surprised. Petraeus looks like a guy that likes Celtic music.

This is like finding out that Patton was into orchids.

He wrote poetry.

He wrote poetry.

But it was bad, so it doesn’t count.

I’m serious about that, by the way. He actually wanted to publish a book of his poems after the war. Unfortunately, he was killed in a car accident in 1946 in Germany.

amerpundit on August 27, 2010 at 7:50 PM

Dude. I know Petraeus–we were both at Ft Bragg together and I helped him out after he broke his pelvis back in 2000? IIRC. I like enya too and have since I was in undergrad. It’s soothing and relaxing stuff. All steely eyed killers listen to Enya, c’mon….get with the program.

General Mattis, on the other hand, likes the sound of terrorists screaming for their mommies. He even has MP3 files on his iPod.

amerpundit on August 27, 2010 at 7:53 PM

Enya is like the cuter, softer and talented version of Annie Lennox of Eurythmics fame… BAck in the day, Annie Lennox, to some of us, was kinda mysterious and dare I say ?attractive? in a weirdish, Celtic, Euro-chick kinda way. Might have been the leather pants or tall boots or the red short hair. Enya came along and actually fit the bill and ol’ Annie was sent down the orinoco flow.

Cr4sh Dummy on August 27, 2010 at 7:56 PM

Petraeus is an extraordinarily intelligent fella. Maybe if AP would trade in some of his ol’ Ted Nugent “Cat Scratch Fever” vinyl for some Enya, he might move up a notch in the evolutionary chain and not get so impressed with little shiny devices that start with “i”…/

ted c on August 27, 2010 at 7:58 PM

She’s not bad. My mom had Watermark and Shepherd Moons on CD in the early 90′s and played those to death, but there are some really good tunes on each album.

Doughboy on August 27, 2010 at 7:58 PM

I’ve got to say, she is lovely. Her music is so calming, so I can understand why Petraeus would be into her besides her hotness.

That’s a good song. It was used very effectively in L.A. Story which is a really underrated Steve Martin flick. He must be an Enya fan too, since I think at least 3 of her songs were in that movie.

When my retarded daughter was a little girl, her sleep patterns were extremely erratic and fragile.
And then she was vulnerable to the onslaught of cold and flu season…
Let’s just say Enya delivered to her many more hours of sleep than she otherwise would have had. Enya floated our family through many a long winters night and hot summer night. That disc was indispensable on a road trip. So yea, a warrior might find his head cleared with her gossamer style.
Thanks Enya. No really. Thank. You. Enya.

Patreus is the anti-Patton. Are you trying to make Patton roll over in his grave?

I never even heard of enya before. It sounds French for enema. Or maybe Australian.

In any case, I certainly had no idea Petraues was “into” it. I did know that he is “into” Ramadan, however, as has even had “May you have a blessed Ramadan” signs put up at U.S. Army mess halls in Afghanistan. I “assume” it was him anyway as he is suppose to be in charge of the SCF (Sharia Cluster Fark) over there now.

Tav on August 27, 2010 at 8:26 PM

It’s kinda weird, when I use to run with my FM Walkman I would run faster when Enya came on. I have no idea why. Just made my brain cause my body to fly. When I wasn’t running it didn’t do anything for me.

When I think of Enya I think of that death penalty case where the mother of the victim compiled a DVD pf photos with an Enya song playing softly in the background because it was her daughter’s favorite, and it was shown to the jury. Now, I expected the defense to object but of course all the unReason retards, who never met a rapist/murderer that they didn’t love, had a case of the vapors. Thankfully, the USSC told them to take a hike.
