Twitter war in Nevada?

posted at 8:50 pm on August 26, 2010 by Ed Morrissey

I’m not sure which I find more amusing in this clip. Is it the fact that a local TV station spent more than three minutes reporting on sniping on Twitter after complaining that they would have to sit through 70 days of campaign commercials? Or is it the obligatory fingers-typing-on-keyboard shot that has been a hallmark of blog coverage on television since the inception of the blogosphere? Heck, why choose? KLAS breaks the scoop on “political Twitter” and the infighting between the Harry Reid and Sharron Angle campaigns (via Elizabeth Crum):

It does take a special kind of chutzpah to gripe about Angle’s hiring advisers out of DC on Twitter with a handle that references one’s own status as a Beltway denizen. That’s worthy of a good poke in the figurative Twitter eye. As for the rest of it, maybe the staffs of both campaigns need a little more supervised work, and maybe KLAS should hope for more campaign commercials, not fewer.

To that end, this new ad from Team Angle looks like the communication shop has been working overtime. They call it “the most tragic love story of our time,” but the real tragedy of this love triangle hits everyone but the three people involved. You have to love the saxophone riffs.

Oh, are we paying!

bluemarlin on August 26, 2010 at 8:57 PM

What is this ‘Twitter’ that you speak of…?

Seven Percent Solution on August 26, 2010 at 8:59 PM

Since Dingy Harry is involved, wouldn’t it simply be a ‘Twit War’.

trigon on August 26, 2010 at 8:59 PM

War , brought to you live, 140 characters at time.

bluemarlin on August 26, 2010 at 9:02 PM

Do a post on the Grayson ad with schoolkids!!! It is outrageous!

Joe Caps on August 26, 2010 at 9:04 PM

Oh, that ad is gold. Dem love is tawdry “love”. (And here I thought that saxaphone players were AGW civil disobeyers, as the Glass headline story claims.)

More like a war between two twits….

lexhamfox on August 26, 2010 at 9:06 PM

Can’t believe Reid still has a chance.

abobo on August 26, 2010 at 9:07 PM

I’m waiting for the compilation of all his remarks such as “the war is lost”, “unemployed husbands beat their wives”, “no negro dialect”… etc.

CCRWM on August 26, 2010 at 9:07 PM

The only thing that second video “Love Triangle” was missing…

… was the theme song.

I think it that since he could not knock her out after 5 weeks of unopposed negative ads about her, he is in big trouble. The only that actually worries me about NV is the none of the above handle, who does that!

Meh…they’re playing the standard ‘politics is so unexpectedly ugly and contentious’ crap the lefty media always plays when their people are losing.

“As for the rest of it, maybe the staffs of both campaigns need a little more supervised work, and maybe KLAS should hope for more campaign commercials, not fewer.”

What they need is Twitterers with degrees in humor, preferably MS’s and PhD’s. I see a whole new market opening up, and you, AP, making millions by getting in on the ground floor as a consultant and employment agency.

KLAS is whining because the campaigns have cut out the middleman — the media.

Torn between two lovers
Feeling like a fool
Loving both of you
Is breaking all the rules!

What is Nancy to do? Barrack and Harry are both such nice men.

KLAS failed to disclose that Jon Summers, Reid’s communications director who is prominently featured in their report, used to work for them as a reporter.

Not sure what the general journalistic standard is for disclosing that type of thing, but it’s something to keep in mind.

Ry Ry on August 26, 2010 at 11:49 PM

Fun definition: twit (n), someone who inadvertently ridicules himself on Twitter

ex: Reid’s dir. of comm., Jon Summers, who as JonsummersDC(sic), attempts to ridicule Sharron’s “DC handlers”

Maybe they don’t teach logic (or reading comprehension) at Central Floriduh. Certainly not irony!!

fred5678 on August 27, 2010 at 4:03 AM

Twittering is for the birds…or the bird-brained, in this case.

Dark-Star on August 27, 2010 at 9:15 AM

It doesn’t take more than 140 words to say, “If elected I will vote to cut spending and taxes, and reduce the size of government.” You could even add that Reid is fear mongering.

flataffect on August 27, 2010 at 6:37 PM

The NRA has taken a lot of hits in the past two months from the Right because many speculated that they were going to endorse Harry Reid. WHERE ARE THE HEADLINES TODAY? The NRA has announced that they will NOT endorse Reid. Come on bloggers, time to be fair and spread the truth.
