Cavuto’s prediction: Obama won’t run for a second term
posted at 6:40 pm on August 23, 2010 by Allahpundit
I don’t know why this idea is suddenly in vogue, but Ace wrote about it a few days ago, then Toby Harnden turned out a much-linked piece on it for the Telegraph, now here’s Cavuto making conservative hearts flutter by predicting that O is one and done. I assume it’s Obama’s newly abysmal polling that has people thinking this way, with his aggregate weekly job approval rating reaching a new low in Gallup last week (although his daily rating’s begun to rebound slightly). The idea appeals to me both for obvious reason and because it plays off the media’s meme of what a supposedly successful, accomplished president Obama already is. If he’s already achieved so much, wonders Cavuto, why bother with a second term? But … seriously? The One, turning down another shot at the most powerful job in the world? If there was some sort of “global pope” position he could run for instead, that might tempt him, but I can’t see him hanging up his messiah laurel just to go write books and play 72 holes a day. What his ego needs is a job where he can make law via ipse dixit, handing down pronouncements about the way things should be like Moses descending from Mount Sinai with the tablets. If only there were a job like — hey, wait a minute.

If Obama decides not run for re-election because his approval ratings are so bad…no Democrat will be able to get elected.
terryannonline on August 23, 2010 at 7:45 PM
If Americans really cared about their country they won’t reelect Obama.
China has already overtaken Japan to be the second biggest economy in the world.
How long before China becomes the global hegemon?

I will long for the day when the media confesses he’s the greatest community organizer to be mistakenly elected to the office.
Rovin on August 23, 2010 at 7:46 PM
I agree with you. As a former president he would make more money, have enough secret service to get him where he wants to go fast but not shut down the town. He would remain a huge celebrity and the press could treat him as a god without any of the policy stuff getting in the way. And best of all everyone can still be racists.
Cindy Munford on August 23, 2010 at 7:46 PM
You will know this is happening if a still Dem controlled Senate starts passing Obama treaties which put’s a significant portion of US policy under UN control. If that were to happen, and it won’t, you would see Obama jump ship for Secretary General.

P, you can vote 3rd party if you want to, but right now–and throughout our history as a nation–we have 2 major parties, we have elections in less than 3 months and I’m voting for the one party that will do their best to stop Obamunism in its tracks and it ain’t the DemocRats.
Take Sarah Palin’s lead and work to reform the GOP and purge it of the RINOs, leaving it to the Common Sense conservatives, Tea Partiers and Mama Grizzlies.
Jenfidel on August 23, 2010 at 7:48 PM
The man has already completely looted the treasury and given billions to his pals. In fact, he has looted our children’s incomes and given THAT to his pals. At this point it is “mission accomplished” for him. There is nothing much left to steal.

He’ll slide into some global elder stateman role like Clinton and Gore and Carter. I am sure Carter will invite Obama to join The Elders which is the perfect place for him. He can pontificate and be adored by anti-American elites everywhere, and rack up huge speaking fees.

Like I said Jen Hillary in a 49 state rout over Sarah if they went head to head in 2012. Primarily because the overreach and claim of a ideologically pure conservative agenda would repel millions and they would reject the offering. What would you do then?

If Hillary were so ideologically appealing, she would have won the Dem nomination.
Most Americans are aware, and are certainly aware now, that she’s a strong an Alinsky-trained Marxist as Maobama.
So, do not talk about ideology when it comes to Hillary!
Sarah Palin is infinitely more mainstream than Hillary ever thought of being.
As for “what would I do then?” Sell everything and move to somewhere that hasn’t been destroyed by Obamunism and take my money with me. (BTW, I’ve been giving this serious consideration since election day.)
This country will be *gone* never to return if Hillary’s elected POTUS or if we have the misfortune of an Obama 2nd term.
The country can’t take much more of this.

Count me paranoid. If the Øbama progs think they have a chance to subordinate big chunks of USA sovereignty to the UN, they will try it. The UN is their back door to power. Øbama wants to cement the ceding of our sovereignty to the UN before he’s done, so his agenda can be completed by international agencies. Subordinating the USA in the world pecking order, even more than defeating our domestic order, is his priority.
Doubt the progs will be able to pull it off if they lose big in November. But if they have the votes after that, or if Øbama gets a second term, it’s a sure thing they’ll try it. It’s their end game. Not a doubt in my mind.
petefrt on August 23, 2010 at 8:09 PM
No birth certificate? No second term.
Do you REALLY think he can get away not showing his birth certificate for the next election?
Obowma will take every speaking engagement and fundraiser he can get his hands on… and then probably run the DNC.
I’ve been saying no second term since Hawaii stopped honoring requests re Obowma’s birth certificate. And I stand by it with every fiber of my being. He’d rather walk away having his base think that he just couldn’t help them anymore, what with all these racist republicans asking to see his birth certificate and college records.

Conservative push backs tend to win public support, even when the advocates are not popular. Cheney bested Obama in their dueling speeches on foreign policy, and Palin’s note re death panels beat Obama’s speeches.
I’m not convinced a full-throated campaign against Obamaism can’t win, and win big, a la 1980, whoever the nominee is.
We just need someone with the guts to go there, and not back down.

Well you know Todd is a secessionist but somehow I think russia would just take Alaska back if it were to secede.
The country has gone through far more turbulent times. You don’t like the democratically elected president, house or senate. Take steps to change it through the same process.
But if you keep sticking with this notion of ideological purity in which all of the people not nodding their heads in slack jawed agreement with whatever the titular head say are ousted you have no chance in hell of seeing the GOP regain a whole heck of a lot.

But in a sense, dumbasses like Cavuto are partially right. He won’t “run” in the sense that we’ve understood that word to mean. He will instead be working in the next two years to subvert the process of running so that he simply “wins.”

I don’t think O likes the job–as a job. He just likes the frills and the prestige and the fact that he’made it to the top’. Though I was told the other day about how he rises for briefings at 5 in the AM and continues like this most days. I don’t know whether to believe this or not. All I ever see is him dashing about from place to place either raising money or recreating. Never see this supposed other side. As much as I despise President Obama, I do believe ex-President Obama will be far more insufferable, self-righteous, and pompous. And his tranny wife as an ex first lady? mperek on August 23, 2010 at 8:58 PM
I can’t agree with your premise that “a majority of voters would be repelled by an ideologically pure conservative agenda”.
Ronald Reagan flaunted his conservatism as much as anyone could. Winning the 1980 election could be attributed to the voters being disappointed with Carter, but he won 1984 with a bigger margin than 1980.
Biggest problem for Sarah is voters perception of her experience vs inexperience. That’s it.

So was the Chicago Annenberg Challenge and pretty much else that he’s been involved in. The man is a complete imbecile, who’s ideologically driven, but has no fortitude what so ever. I doubt he wants another four years in the job. I mean, that would been four more years of no being able to openly bash America and Israel.

I’ve seen people like the Bamster in business world. They have the ‘executive-hair’, the charm, the speaking ability. They are like stones skipping over water, not staying in any job long enough for their incompetence to be seen. They are brought into companies as saviors, turnaround experts, etc.
Bammie’s problem is that he has the highest job now, -no where to skip to. He has to deliver and he can’t. That happens in business too. Eventually they are fired and then retire on the millions made until they were found out.
slickwillie2001 on August 23, 2010 at 9:24 PM
One term makes a lot of sense. When you have damaged the country as badly as he already has why hang around and take the flack for it. Being a former president with the assorted perks and no responsibilities would be very attractive.

If this November’s losses are BIG enough, no way will Barry convince the honchos of the DNC that this wasn’t a referendum on his “leadership”. He’ll get nothing that he wants done as a lame duck. But he will get the blame if the Republicans put forth important legislation to fix the economy. Barry will then be in the PARTY OF NO!
If the economic stagnation continues, with Barry vetoing everything the Republicans give him, you can bet Hillary! will be in the wings “to save the party”.
Only I don’t think any of her excuses will fly. She’ll be tagged as Obama Version 2.0 (Socialist, but only slightly less so).

The one downside, post-presidency, to Obama not running again, even compared to running and not winning in 2012, is by bailing out he loses the ability to play the ‘martyr’ card for the rest of his life.
Liberals shunned Jimmy Carter for a few years after his loss to Reagan, but their desire to have someone with some sort of relative equality to Reagan (and then Bush 41) to anoint as “absolute moral authority” because he held the position before took over, and as long as a Republican was in the White House, Carter was treated as a beacon of truth.
Obama would still get some of that as an ex-president, but not nearly as much if he just ups and quits the job. He’s still going to get his post-presidential millions from people invested in playing the race card until the end of time against Republicans, but an Obama who is seen as running from the job and then turning around and trying to tell the new occupant of the office what to do just is never going to get the same sort of rapt audience as one who either serves two terms or is voted out, since even the latter would allow Democrats to use him as sort of an “I told you so” figure when they’re bashing whomever the Republican is at the time in the Oval Office.
jon1979 on August 23, 2010 at 10:35 PM
^ not to mention…if he doesn’t run in 2012 he could always, here’s the really scary part, RUN AGAIN later on…man oh man, can you imagine how awful a second campaign of his would be after four years of Sarah fixing all of the damage he’s done?
das411 on August 23, 2010 at 10:56 PM
Think about this too, when those ‘honchos’ make their decision, who will be the one ‘father of the party’ type chosen to carry the message to Bammie? To be a fly on the wall of that meeting.
I’m also wondering how the black community will take it.
slickwillie2001 on August 23, 2010 at 11:16 PM
He’s not going to get the Sec Gen job. The French have an absolute veto vote as well. Their deal has been they would only vote for someone if they spoke French. Now, they might have given Barry a break since he doesn’t but there’s a problem. They got scammed into voting for the current guy (Ban Ki Moon) with promises how he spoke some and he’d learn to be fluent in office. Long story short it didn’t happen, the guy doesn’t speak French at all and hasn’t learned so they’re not going to cut anybody a break on that for a long time.

For all the bad news Obama still has very high ratings.
If his ratings were in the low 30s, upper 20s then this might be thinkable.
All it will take is some good news and his positive polling numbers will go above 50%.
Pundits again are making the mistake of projecting what they want to see on Obama. This is Obama’s real legacy – know one knew who he is or what he stands for. He is this blank slate that everyone tries to project something on: the Messiah, the great communicator, the genius lawyer, the leader, the Muslim and now quitter.
One cannot judge Obama on what they think he will do, one can only judge him on what he does and he usually votes “present”.
albill on August 24, 2010 at 6:51 AM
Don’t count on O’Communist dropping out for a second. He still has more work to do destroying the country, cutting the legs off the evil capitalism, and ushering in the “fair” socialism. Acorn and all of OBOWma’s radical supporters know it will be much harder for them this time, so they will pull all the stops and go full throttle at (attempting)to cheat Obama to the finish line again. All along, I’ve believed he didn’t care about re-election. Rahm E said after dufus was inaugurated that his intention was not to strengthen America and make our country victorious, but rather to “manage America’s decline”. He’s certainly doing that job well, and can get it done within a four year time slot efficiently.
I’ve also always believed dufus is a radical muslim, and every day he proves my point with his actions. No terrorist has ever done as much damage to this country as “duh one” has.
We’ll be lucky if we survive to 2012, seriously.
ErinF on August 24, 2010 at 9:02 AM

adamsmith on August 24, 2010 at 9:17 AM
Hopes for impeachment are unrealistic. Firstly because he has done nothing to merit impeachment. Last I checked the constitution had not changed since he took office and in that same constitution I don’t see anything about bad economies being cause for impeachment.
Bradky on August 24, 2010 at 9:19 AM
It’s actually 50/50. Either his ego is too fragile to run if there’s even a part of his brain that will recognize that he’s likely to lose (assuming his popularity numbers are still this low), or his ego will not be able to consider the possibility of defeat since he’s “accomplished so much” and he’ll run.
We have to be ready for either possibility, and make sure we’ve got a great candidate to beat whomever runs in ’12.
DrAllecon on August 24, 2010 at 9:28 AM
He won’t take the chance he will lose. That would be too much for his ego. He’s the opposite of Bret Favre who loves the game and the rush he gets when he tosses for a td. O loves himself and won’t take the risk he could tarnish it by losing an election.

He’ll run again. And he’ll probably win. Look, it’s over two years away. A lot can happen then. If the economy comes back in any meaningful way he will win as the incumbent. It always happens that way. American memories are short and once again the know-nothing voters who decide every election will be overawed by what a nice, clean, smooth-talker Barry is and will think “gee, if we don’t vote for him does that make us racist?” And of course Barry’s enablers in the MFM will be there to answer “yes, yes it does.” Get used to it. Especially with the GOP taking over Congress and preventing him from enacting even crazier far-Left sh!t. By 2012 everyone will think Barry’s a centrist. And oh, btw, I’m sure the GOP will run some half-as$ed candidate again. Remember 1996.

There was a time when the office of the POTUS was respcted and something great and honorable…Obama has single handedly(with the help of his out of touch stupid advisors/staff) trashed the constitution and turned it into a joke. It’ egregious what this administration has turned the highest position in the world into. Before this term is over and done, there will be a very serious scandal emerge beyond what we’ve ever seen. And you can take that to the bank! If we have any b anks left.
Dakotobol on August 24, 2010 at 10:11 AM
The notion that Obama isn’t going to run again is a fantasy.
Obama, like Castro in Cuba, is a slave to power. Indeed, I wouldn’t be surprised if his people weren’t behind some of these articles so they could find out who is loyal and who isn’t in the Democratic Party.
As for the Republicans, Palin will run as a center-right conservative. The notion pushed by Bradky and others that she is an extremist is one that has actually been pushed by Palin’s people, deliberately. It helps set the bar real low for Sarah so she can appeal to the right during the primary period and run a race like she did in Alaska in 2006, when she ran as a center-right pragmatist.
The left never learns about Palin. She is like Bill Clinton in that she is very fortunate in her choice of enemies. They froth at the mouth about her, always looking for the silver bullet to eliminate her, always ending up like Wyle E. Coyote falling into the crater with the boulder coming soon after.
victor82 on August 24, 2010 at 10:13 AM
Typical first term for a president: pushing your agenda but still being cautious not to burn every bridge with your constituents as not to alienate them for the next election campaign.
Typical second term: All’s fair! Doesn’t matter what the constituents think now. I’m outta here in 4 years. I do what I want! The sky’s the limit.
Just a thought but, what has Obama’s agenda looked like during this first term?

Obama just needs a presidency czar to take care of the actual job.

Hillary? Has there ever been a more overrated politician than Hillary?
tom on August 24, 2010 at 12:35 PM
Palin comes to mind….
Bradky on August 24, 2010 at 12:39 PM
It seems we can’t really discuss Obama without discussing Sarah Palin….
I’d have to say Palins tweets and facebook posts already contain more substance than anything I’ve seen from Hillary. I’m not sure that’s really Hillary’s fault, since she doesn’t seem to get the usual respect that a Secretary of State would get. It’s almost like her position is some sort of … political patronage.

Comparing amateurs is pretty easy and appropriate.
I think you haven’t looked very hard for what Hillary has written. Whether you agree with her or not is not the point.

Blagojevich and Rezko alone probably have enough dirt for impeachment. The high-handed takeover of GM while stiffing bondholders of their legal dues to hand stock over to politically friendly unions is definitely enough grounds for impeachment. Firing Gerald Walpin illegally is also enough grounds.
What keeps impeachment at bay right now is Democratic control of the House and Senate. If House and Senate both turn over, then impeachment becomes possible.
And Obama deliberately moved to a city with one of the most corrupt political machines in the nation specifically to get into politics. The political machine went to a great deal of trouble to grease the path for him, often forcing out his political rivals before he ran. There’s a strong possibility that he’s personally involved in some shady stuff. While talk of impeachment is premature at this point, let’s not pretend it could never happen.
tom on August 24, 2010 at 1:01 PM
so you are saying he should be impeached for things you think he might have done. Congress helped him with GM – are they going to impeach themselves?
Bradky on August 24, 2010 at 1:04 PM
Any reasonable comparison of political skills shows Palin to solid advantage. Any comparison of executive skills finds Hillary wanting.
I find it interesting that you keep bringing up Palin where she was not being discussed. It’s as if everyone already knows we’re looking at a knock-down-drag-out between Palin and Obama, or Palin and Hillary. I wouldn’t necessarily expect that to be the case.
Whether Palin or not, I seriously have a hard time seeing Hillary as a real threat. Palin is being called an extremist, but anyone with eyes can see she’s a lot closer to the center-right than Hillary, and therefore closer to most voters.
tom on August 24, 2010 at 1:10 PM
Common sense really. Shady past implies shady present. Besides, Nixon found out that it’s the coverup that kills you.
tom on August 24, 2010 at 1:12 PM
Arguably Hillary had the nomination in 08 but she got out strategized about the caucuses and super delegates. Whether Palin is really an extremist is not my contention. I disagree with your view she is center right. She has not said much to make it seem likely.
My contention is that many of her ardent fans are very extremist and wish for dismissal of moderates, etc. so we can get to basic conservative values.
That turns off the independents and center right dems. If Obama runs they may sit out if not switch votes. If Hillary runs they may see it as a second chance to right an enormous mistake.
Bradky on August 24, 2010 at 1:46 PM
He can’t run for a second. I don’t think he’ll survive his first.

This country may be naive once but back to back elections?
She is as bad as Obowma is…and WHAT HAS HILLARY DONE?
North Korea bomb, on the verge of war with South Korea.
China on the move, dictating terms to the US, massive US
debt owned to them, Chinese funding ILLEGALLY during the
last campaign: Charley Trie etc…
Russia hates us more than ever: Iran bomb help, Georgia
invasion and slaughter.
Iran on the move and a nuclear bomb soon, no support to
the student revolt in Iran to create a democracy.
She was on the wrong side in Venezuela’s legit elections.
The UK questions our support.
Israel questions our support.
She offered the Palestinians, 600 million while Israel
needs support for aircraft and spare parts and was
denied.
Yea, she is a real winner.
