Miss USA: I think they should move the Ground Zero mosque

posted at 5:06 pm on August 20, 2010 by Allahpundit

Red hot and an intolerant neo-fascist wingnut. What’s not to love?

The 24-year-old Rima Fakih, is the first Muslim winner of the Miss USA contest and is preparing for the Miss Universe Pageant, scheduled for Monday in Las Vegas.

“I totally agree with President Obama with the statement on Constitutional rights of freedom of religion,” Fakih told “Inside Edition” in an interview that will air tonight.

“I also agree that it shouldn’t be so close to the World Trade Center. We should be more concerned with the tragedy than religion.”

I’m pretty sure The One doesn’t agree with that latter point, but consider this evidence that I was wrong in what I said earlier. His lame hedge on the mosque is fooling some people after all! Nice work, champ.

I’m glad she weighed in because the clip below is just what the doctor ordered for a slow, dreary Friday afternoon. You’re welcome. On a serious note, and per the fact that she’s coming at this as both an American and a Muslim, read this NYT piece sampling Muslim opinion on the subject from around New York City. Dan Foster at NRO is struck by how reasonable most of the people interviewed sound, as am I, not because they’re Muslim but because, after a week of nails-on-the-chalkboard screeching from the left, any change in tone is refreshing. Same goes for Howard Dean, frankly, even if he is taking care to keep up his membership in the he-man wingnut-haters club.

No federal installations near ground zero and no meddling with private projects.

Spathi on August 20, 2010 at 5:12 PM

Look, kid, if this mosque had been there before 9/11 happened and they were rebuilding it, it wouldn’t be an issue.

As for “Federal installations near Ground Zero”, there have been Federal installations in that area for centuries.

Keep trying!

I do agree. It would be funny if it weren’t so sad that many of these obviously sex-starved “unhot airhead” commenters (Schlussel’s term) suddenly see a picture of a Muslim in a bikini, and then are ready to embrace Islam and believe that it is a “religion of peace.” Rima Fakih’s affirmative action win was a PR coup for Islam because many Americans are so naive when it comes to Islam.

Never mind if she openly supports terrorism against Israel and refuses to denounce Hezbollah, of which many of her relatives are high ranking members.

To Gabe:

Ms. Schlussel has been exposed numerous times and ways as, and I have no nice way to put this, a raving dingbat.

From her attempted hatchet job on Sean Hannity and the Freedom Alliance to attempting to smear and intimidate individual bloggers for comments they made on her site, she has to quote Michelle Malkin

accused me (and everyone else on the planet) of stealing her work, hating Jews, and being less intelligent, less brave, and less successful than she is. Some very vindictive people will never be happy and have made it their life’s mission to drag the world down with them. It is very, very sad.

Hence the reason I no longer believe a word she writes. Many others on HA feel the same.

However, what DS writes about Rima Fakih and her support of terrorism, the PR coup of her affirmative action choice of Miss U.S.A., and Rima Fakih’s disinformation campaign that Islam is a “religion of peace” makes sense. islam is not to be trusted. It must prove itself worthy of trust. Here it is better to err on the side of caution. We have had ample proof of the danger islam presents.

Besides, islam has an established historic pattern of advancing when strong and retrenching when weak.

70 percent of Americans are a good reason for some retrenching and a smart move.

Expect more retrenching in statements by hopefully truly but not certainly so-called moderate muslims in the course of this mosquecrapfest.

You sound like either a dhimmi, liberal, or a Muslim. Debbie Schlussel is a practicing lawyer and an expert on the Middle East, and she lives right in Detroit, so she knows about Muslims firsthand. She is always correct about Islam, and some people can’t handle the truth.

By the way, she has written a post tonight about this very topic, and as usual she is right on target:

Rima Fakih wants to be Miss Universe and to be the Muslim Miss Universe that rubs her religion in all of our faces. While she posed topless for pageant photos, she’s also fasting for Ramadan. She’s a religious Muslim and clearly believes in the Muslim precept of Taqiyya–lying/deception to fool the infidels.

Don’t be fooled. She’s lied about everything else, thus far.

She’s lying here, too.

The links Debbie had in that blog post were all self-referencing and had specious little evidence other than claiming because her relatives back in the old country are terrorists therefore she must be terrorists. My granduncle ran moonshine. guess I also run moonshine.

Oh, and Debbie Schlussel is not an expert on the Middle East, not even close. Robert Spencer is an expert, so is Daniel Pipes.

She even go so far as to claim some of her remarks in defense of Muslims is proof of her secret identity of Muslim Jihadist.

See? Debbie S. is right …

79 percent ($5,317,970) was spent on Program Activities
•14 percent ($945,950) was spent on Fundraising
•7 percent ($481,797) was spent on Management
In 2007, Freedom Alliance spent a total of $7,461,350. Of that:
• 81.5 percent ($6,084,474) was spent on Program Activities
• 13.5 percent ($1,011,501) was spent on Fundraising
• 5 percent ($365,375) was spent on Management
In 2006, Freedom Alliance spent a total of $7,064,839. Of that:
• 77 percent ($5,434,538) was spent on Program Activities
• 18.5 percent ($1,308,414) was spent on Fundraising
• 4.5 percent ($321,887) was spent on Management

TC Freely| 3.19.10 @ 3:54PM

Seriously, go look at the 2006 tax returns, specifically page 2. $379k on “grants and allocations” (line 22b). 1.7 MILLION for “postage and shipping.” 1.4 MILLION for “printing and publications.” $641k for consultants. Wow.

Tobi| 3.19.10 @ 4:10PM

It is very dubious and cunning explanation under the broad term of ” Program activities.”
None of Debbie’s accusations has been answered where she has quoted from IRS records which are indisputable. We should be truthful and weed out the shady characters operating as conservatives who scam hard working innocent Americans . There is no question that trust has been betrayed . If as appears laws have also been broken, these people need to spend their time in the jail

BowHuntingTexas on August 21, 2010 at 12:09 AM

Oh, and a recent quote from Schlussel:

I was ahead of my time, and the sheep on all sides of the spectrum didn’t like that. For saying those things, I was vehemently attacked as an “extremist” by the entire left-wing blogosphere and media . . . and those on the RIGHT, including the ignorant morons at Michelle Fraudkin’s Hot Airheads, who thought Obama’s speech to the Muslim world was “surprisingly good” (that’s the ignoramus Ed Morrissey and the equally ignorant coward who goes by a fictional name, “Allahpundit”).

Who on the conservative blogosphere HASN’T she attacked?

MadisonConservative on August 21, 2010 at 12:09 AM

MadisonConservative on August 21, 2010 at 12:06 AM

Yes, you are correct, she does attack many, but I look at each one and some I do not agree. Even if someone is offended by that 100%, I still think her post on Islamofascism are worth looking at…even by those who have to hold their noses.

Gob on August 21, 2010 at 12:10 AM

We should be truthful and weed out the shady characters operating as conservatives who scam hard working innocent Americans .

So far, all you have are unsubstantiated allegations that money didn’t go where Freedom Alliance stated it went. That’s the kind of “proof” DS constantly relies on. Again, she’s attacked everyone she sees. Is she the only truthful conservative in the blogosphere?

There is no question that trust has been betrayed . If as appears laws have also been broken, these people need to spend their time in the jail

Used to be the case with Charles Johnson. Look how that turned out after he attacked every conservative within sniping distance.

MadisonConservative on August 21, 2010 at 12:14 AM

An The first link was an Emily Zanotti (crazed stalker) friend. There are court records that document what Schlussel has done to expose and stop her from stalking.

Gob on August 21, 2010 at 12:04 AM

No, there aren’t. Debbie has claimed there are, but there aren’t. Other people tried to follow Deb’s accusations, and the proof isn’t there.

There are things called “witnesses” in the real world, and if they don’t back up your accusations, you don’t get to claim victim status.

Also, if you’d actually read the links, you would know that the first link is John Hawkins, the second is Cassy Fiano, the third is Villainous Company. None of those people are Emily.

And this is not the first of last time Debbie has gone off into the weeds – threatening wage-garnishing for a blog post using her image, saying an eagle pin made by a patriotic group was a secret conspiracy with La Raza (seriously, they didn’t even look alike), and on and on and on…

Merovign on August 21, 2010 at 12:14 AM

She has refused to condemn Hezbollah, and she uses her position as Miss Muslim U.S.A. to spread misinformation that Islam is a “religion of peace.”

Gabe on August 20, 2010 at 11:55 PM

Jews, Catholics, Mormons, Muslims. A country founded on the principle and the practice of religious freedom still has a large percentage of nutjobs running around crying “Freedom” and “Patriotism” out one side of their face, and whispering “but only for those who agree with me” out of the other side.

Gabe and Gob, should we then rescind the citizenship rights of all Muslims and deport them, due to the ‘threat’ they all pose?

People like you said so about the Jews not so long ago (some still)
People like you said so about Catholics not so long ago,
JFK had to overcome that kind of hatred and bigotry.
People like you said so about Mormons not so long ago, then killed many and forced them out of the country to what was then Mexican territory.

So then, is it Freedom for All, or just for some?

trailboss on August 21, 2010 at 12:16 AM

She said, she said. Schlussel demonstrates manic qualities, and labels another a stalker. Meanwhile, she’s attacking every other conservative in sight. Ingraham. Levin. Malkin. Prager. Thompson. Geller. The evidence doesn’t look good.

MadisonConservative on August 21, 2010 at 12:06 AM

There are many consistent conservatives she never attacks: Rush Limbaugh, Cal Thomas, Ann Coulter, etc. They have principles and don’t deviate from them. For example, they are not like AllahPundit, who says he “loves” Rima Fakih, whose relatives are members of Hezbollah that killed 241 of our marines. Or Pamela Geller, who invites the Muslim mother to a self-promotion event organized by Pamela, the same mother who supported her husband who killed their daughter in an honor killing. She criticizes professional conservative commentators who care more about their careers than being consistent in their values. And some people can’t handle this criticism and attack the messenger.

Michael Savage is also hated by many. He and Levin hate each other and I like both of them. You do not have to like her to read what she has to say. In the end, I think it’s valuable. We’ll see if that adheres.

For example, they are not like AllahPundit, who says he “loves” Rima Fakih, whose relatives are members of Hezbollah that killed 241 of our marines.

So Rima gets to pick her relatives? DS’s accusations are, once again, just that. Accusations. All she can do so far is call Fakih a liar, with no substantiation.

Or Pamela Geller, who invites the Muslim mother to a self-promotion event organized by Pamela, the same mother who supported her husband who killed their daughter in an honor killing.

Which she explained.

She criticizes professional conservative commentators who care more about their careers than being consistent in their values.

Trail, I first heard Schlussel years ago on Stern. It is hard to find someone so well versed on Jihadis and Muslim fundamentalism.

She is a straight-shooter. She has no fear in laying all on the table. She is a religious Jew as well, so perhaps that is why she is so passionate about it. At least she does not equivocate.

Gob on August 21, 2010 at 12:24 AM

Gabe on August 21, 2010 at 12:17 AM

Geller did NOT invite the woman to the event, and the woman did not speak there. The woman approached Geller and said she’d got away from her abusive husband and wanted to tell her story, so Geller talked to her, decided she wasn’t credible, and decided not to host her.

In the link MadisionConservative provided:

79 percent ($5,317,970) was spent on Program Activities
•14 percent ($945,950) was spent on Fundraising
•7 percent ($481,797) was spent on Management

So Debbie was right after all. Freedom Alliance has concerts asking for our donations to go to the wounded warriors and the children of American heroes who died in battle.

Yet a measly fraction of the donations actually go to these children, and 79% go to “program activities.” It is a scam, and Debbie was correct. I can understand why she has little patience for those who support Sean Hannity and this scam. Debbie is a professional lawyer and doesn’t have a need to rely and asskiss Sean and other professional pundits to make a living.
