Miss USA: I think they should move the Ground Zero mosque

posted at 5:06 pm on August 20, 2010 by Allahpundit

Red hot and an intolerant neo-fascist wingnut. What’s not to love?

The 24-year-old Rima Fakih, is the first Muslim winner of the Miss USA contest and is preparing for the Miss Universe Pageant, scheduled for Monday in Las Vegas.

“I totally agree with President Obama with the statement on Constitutional rights of freedom of religion,” Fakih told “Inside Edition” in an interview that will air tonight.

“I also agree that it shouldn’t be so close to the World Trade Center. We should be more concerned with the tragedy than religion.”

I’m pretty sure The One doesn’t agree with that latter point, but consider this evidence that I was wrong in what I said earlier. His lame hedge on the mosque is fooling some people after all! Nice work, champ.

I’m glad she weighed in because the clip below is just what the doctor ordered for a slow, dreary Friday afternoon. You’re welcome. On a serious note, and per the fact that she’s coming at this as both an American and a Muslim, read this NYT piece sampling Muslim opinion on the subject from around New York City. Dan Foster at NRO is struck by how reasonable most of the people interviewed sound, as am I, not because they’re Muslim but because, after a week of nails-on-the-chalkboard screeching from the left, any change in tone is refreshing. Same goes for Howard Dean, frankly, even if he is taking care to keep up his membership in the he-man wingnut-haters club.

Who forget that the Crusades were war made on Muslims by the Catholic Church and the ‘peace-loving’ West.
trailboss on August 21, 2010 at 12:34 AM

You’re a f***ing idiot. The crusades were a response to Muslim aggression (in particular, invading and taking the holy land from Christians). Imbecile.

Those who say Americans are racist are mindless robots who do whatever a person who appears more important than they are.

Miss America is what real America is all about, she is naturalized (entered the country legally) and a Muslim. She is a beautiful example of America and smart too. Because I doubt many real Americans can explain the symbolism of the the Great Seal and wear it so proudly.

Debbie Schlussel makes some strong charges:

**** UPDATE, 08/21/10: And don’t forget that the admitted financier of Fakih’s Miss Michigan and Miss USA pageant bids is “former” Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) terrorist, Imad Hamad–an open supporter of HAMAS and Hezbollah and the man who described teaching three-year-olds to become Islamic homicide bombers on Palestinian Authority TV as being “patriotic.” I guess all the dummies gushing over Fakih’s carefully calculated, phony comments on the mosque don’t think this matters. Morons thinking with the wrong “brain”–the only brain they have…

Daniel Pipes has more on this Imad Hamad character:

On Oct. 31, Imad Hamad, Michigan regional director of the American-Arab Anti Discrimination Committee (and the near-recipient of an FBI award), wrote a letter to the president of the Crestwood Board of Education in Dearborn Heights, Michigan, urging him to consider making the Islamic holiday of Eid al-Adha a school holiday in his district. After urging the president, Ron Panetta, to “thoroughly review this matter,” Hamad went on:

Rushing into decisions that involve such sensitive issues might bring serious ramifications and unexpected unhealthy consequences. This is why, we further urge the school board not to individualize the issue, and jeopardize the position of any of the fine staff of the Dearborn Heights Public Schools.

Panetta understood this passage as an ultimatum (“There is no doubt in my mind that I was threatened and then he retracted the threat. How else do you interpret ‘unhealthy consequences?’ What does that mean to you?”) but Hamad dismissed the matter as nothing more than a “bad choice of words” and unrepentantly explained to Panetta what happened in a second letter, dated Nov. 3:

There’s more at the link.

Followed the link. Funny. The article she cited where Hamad was supposedly the “admitted financier” is gone. Additionally, the segment she quoted simply said that Fakih applied for financing from Arab-Americans in Dearborn, and that Hamid was simply one of them that responded. If that’s a smoking gun, it’s a water pistol.

Listen up, f**knut. You and every one of your drooling neanderthal liberal brethren ejaculated into their pants at the thought of the first black president.

Now we’ve got the first Muslim Miss USA…she weighs in on a controversial issue…and you dismiss her like the misogynistic little pile of cat s**t you are.

I hope you like the smell of hypocrisy, because you reek of the stuff, d**khole.

Dean-o’s message in a nutshell: Why can’t we get both sides together to talk about this?

Because at that point the mosque wins

Why can’t I have a panel discussion the next time the zoning boatd approves a Nambla-style retreat next to a school? Because everyone knows the buck stops with the zoning commission, next step being the judge. A panel discussion concedes the correctness of the decision, and shovels the outrage to an unaccountable committee of agreeables. All concessions are made to the perp, and the zoning precedent is set

entagor on August 23, 2010 at 7:11 AM

I just read that the #2 source of funds for the ground zero mosque is fox news parent company. Please cover this HOTAIR, otherwise it will make all visitors here, and all conservatives, seem like we are ignoring this important fact.

All those opposed to the mosque should be criticizing Newscorp, and fox news for not being honest about this.

Ha ha ha you don’t even see anything stupid about listening to the opinions of a t&a contest winner’s opinions. That’s okay. Keep ogling. Maybe she’ll hold a press conference in a French maid outfit and talk to you about the Israeli-Palestinian peace process. Don’t worry -she’ll provide a pillow you can place on your lap.

You can run from truth and you can hide from truth but you cannot change the truth.

Christianity has a virulently violent past, both in terms of non-believers and members of the faith. Why on Earth do you think the Puritans and pilgrims came to these shores in the first place? Cause they had all the religious freedom they could handle?

The break from violence and institutionalized persecution are a relatively recent phenomenon, and to be lauded, and to be hoped that this does not change. However, the savaging of American citizens of the Muslim Faith by the conservative wingnut right indicates that religious persecution is alive, well, and resurgent. It’s not based on doctrine, but on fear, and fear is the much stronger driving force. Fear is a killer of truth and it is the fearful who would deny Muslim citizens their EQUAL RIGHTS guaranteed by the Constitution.

Ignorance and Fear. They live and thrive and reproduce endlessly within the warm and nurturing embrace of the IDIOT RIGHT. Enjoy what you spawn. It will come back to bite you in the ass soon enough.
