Charlie Cook to Dems: You know you’re going to get totally destroyed in November, right?

posted at 7:34 pm on August 20, 2010 by Allahpundit

Well, maybe not totally destroyed. He’s pretty sure that they’ll hold the Senate, just because a 10-seat pick-up is a tall order for any party even under the best of circumstances. But we’ll check back with him in a month or so. This is the guy, you may recall, who described ObamaCare as “Obama’s Iraq” way back in February, before the bill even passed. How’s that prediction looking these days?

The clip’s long but the first three and a half minutes or so are really all you need. As for the House, he’s predicting that the GOP will win it back — as a conservative estimate. Where the final seat total ends up is anyone’s guess at this point. Don’t tell Biden.

And then I see this new GOP majority in the House running around like typical scared, hapless, DC-elite blowhards, failing to take a position on anything. My prediction: Day 1 of their new majority, Boehner will say, “Wellllll, we’re not going to repeal repeal Obamacare, ummmmm, we’re just gonna fix it.”

That’ll be followed by John McCain saying, “I hope we don’t get mired in a lot of hearings about the Obama Administration — and I’ll be encouraging my friends in the House not to go that route — because we’ve got legislative work to do! (Think: Amnesty).

Sorry, but I’m just pretty damn sure that the GOP will profoundly disappoint. I don’t see a Chris Christie among ‘em. They haven’t got the stones to do what needs to be done. Haven’t got them at all.

Obama got about 400 billion in slush funds to place ads and get out the vote and repress the vote activities. socialists/marxists never give up power willingly nor peacefully. they worked decades for the coup they got in 2008 they will not go quietly into the night. People still think 2010 is going to be a normal election year. It will not be. The dems will pull out all stops including voter fraud, inteminatdation, out and out stealing of close elections. loss of ballats of gop districts, ballots found in trunks of cars in dem friendly districts etc. too many senate seats are toss ups giving Obama and his brownshirts free access to tip elections.

Unmosqued: Steve Emerson Unearths Tapes of “Moderate Bridge-Building” Imam Rauf

Steve Emerson has unearthed 13 hours of audio tape of Imam Rauf. Emerson and his team of investigators has spent the past four weeks going through the newly found material. Rauf is a “radical extremist cleric who cloaks himself in sheep’s clothing.”

Among the shocking revelations Emerson’s team will reveal next week — they found Rauf:

Defending wahhabism – a puritanical version of Islam that governs Saudi Arabia

Calling for the elimination of Israel by claiming a one-nation state, meaning no more Jewish State.

Defending Bin Laden’s violence

…..stock up on the popcorn….it could get interesting next week watching Obama and his journolister friends defend this “moderate” cleric who states the US was an accessory to 9/11 and that Israel should be eliminated.

Being this detached from reality is not going to help the democrats either:

President Barack Obama said Tuesday that he has “never been more confident that our nation is headed in the right direction.”

“We are doing what is needed to move forward, and we’re doing what’s necessary not just to rebuild the economy for the short term, we want to rebuild it for the long term,” the president said at a Seattle fundraiser

……..the reality

More tough economic times forecast by CBO

http://www.reuters.com/article/idUSTRE67I0U020100820

(Reuters) – The U.S. economy faces difficult times ahead with chronic unemployment and slow manufacturing hurting the pace of recovery, the head of Congress’ budget agency said on Thursday.

The warning from the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office came on top of more bad U.S. economic data that heightened concerns about a return to recession, roiling markets. The gloomy outlook could also spell trouble for Democrats facing November congressional elections.

…so what do you believe…Obama….or your lying eyes.

Marcus on August 20, 2010 at 9:15 PM

Biggest “Red Storm” I see brewing right now is in the fabled Rust Belt states.

If the trends continue to hold, it’s going to be an electoral slaughter, at the state and federal level, in Penn., Ohio, Michigan, Wisconsin and Indiana. Illinois…well, it’s a pretty sorry place, and Minnesota (Ed…what the hell are the Gophers thinking these days?!) is evidence that Tiny Tim can want to be PoTUS, just like I can want to be the first line center on a brand new Hartford Whalers franchise, but reality is: NOT. GONNA. HAPPEN.

So, my money says Red Storm on election day and the Rust Belt’s going to be the Dems Somme 1916: Catastrophic losses that take forever to recover from…if the GOP can force a Dem Senate and Obama to become The House of No and President No.

That’ll be the key to 2012: The GOP takes the House (hopefully the Senate), tries to roll back the Pelosi/Reid/Obama Agenda and forces either a Dem Senate (with a razor thin majority and RINOs for cover) to gridlock it or (best case scenario) capture the Senate itself, pass the roll backs and force Big 0 to veto, contrary to the will of the public which will probably put his approval ratings at about 20% by November 2012, making him little more than a speedbump for the GOP candidate.

Sorry but I beg to differ.
I think this is like the Bill Ayers situation.
Hussain and his fellow thugs knew exactly who and what this Rauf guy is. That why they associated with him. Thats why they are still associated with him. Thats why they will never renounce him . Just like the Bill Ayers episode when Hussain called him ” just a guy in my neighborhood”
and the media ran with it,
so is Rauf being called a ” moderate bridge-builder blah blah”
and the media is running with it.
Ayers never renounced terrorism. Rauf never renounced terrorism.
Hussain never dissociated himself from the Ayers/Dohrn cabal. Hussain will never dissociate himself from the Rauf / Cordoba cabal.
Hussain’s relationship Ayers was later found out to be much more deeper ( ha) than what he originally let us to believe. So will it happen when Rauf gets exposed.
Hussain never answered any question about Ayers after the extent of his relation with him and weather underground was made public. So will he do when the full extent of his relations with Rauf and muslim brotherhood will be exposed.
In both cases, he will make sure there is plenty of name-calling by his fluffer-nutters in media and politics.

listens2glenn on August 20, 2010 at 10:39 PM

Of course, something can change this momentum before November. This is Obama and things can get worse. When you are politically incompetent every day is an advetnure and there is still plenty of times for at least two more unforced errors such as the “police acted stupidly,” the Spanish vacation, the GZM and Obamacare to occur. And that doesn’t even count 2 more monthly unemployment reports.

My prediction in January was 54 House seats and 6 Senate seats going Republican and I’ll stick to it. Although it’s beginning to sound a bit low now.

Fred 2 on August 20, 2010 at 10:42 PM

I saw Cook speak to a group of students two weeks before the Special election in Massachusetts. He said it would take Haley’s commet flying around the earth twice for Scott Brown to win.

The GOP can win the senate. These pollsters can’t account for momentum and the spirit of the voters. Sometimes crunching numbers just doesn’t work out, you have to feel what’s going on. I’m not saying Cook is bad at what he does, just that he can be wrong.

Sterling Holobyte on August 21, 2010 at 2:59 AM

Don’t get too cocky. I don’t know as many politicos around the country as I once did, but one who is still in touch and in the know is less optimistic. He points out that we don’t pick up seats for national vote, it is all district by district. We will take back seats we narrowly lost in ’06 or ’08 by healthy margins, but that doesn’t translate into a House majority. We can’t just run up our % in our safe districts and improve somewhat in the safe Democratic seats and pick up most of the toss-ups and expect to win the House back.
`
`
It is still a daunting task, and one which requires much hard work to bring home. Don’t celebrate too soon.

Adjoran on August 21, 2010 at 3:49 AM

Winning back the congress is like picking the winning horse – but not betting! With the GOP returning to life by default, you can bet your life we’ll get nothing but more of the same: different preacher -same commandments, like swapping Louie Faarakan for the Rev. Wright.

The GOP has a special interest in keeping the ruling class government in power. They may be more reserved than the socialists in power presently, but they are no different that what they’ve ever been – big-sih government types and John McCain, Graham, Snowe etc. will continue to screw up any hope for change just as Dodd and Frank got to control and stay in charge of the very systems that they screwed up themselves. The system only works in story books folks.
Think amnesty, eco-taxes of some sort, talk but no action on culture of death issues, taxes, taxes taxes to pay off the cronic debt we and our grandchildren owe. They won’t bow, but you’ll not see them confront radical Islam, or creeping Islam, Iran, Russia, or Venezuala, or the energy situation; Saudi oil will remain our addiction. Education will remain a machine pumping out mind-numbed little socialists with eco-gods and hating America, God will still be driven one entrenched judge’s decision at a time and the constitution will not be defended with the impeaching of leftist judges that’s could remedy it.

With the impossible economy and an ignorant and greedy voting populace, they’ll only reap the blame for Obama’s destruction and last but one turn until another cleverly-package messiah comes along to promise nirvana but continue taking down America

I firmly believe that Bill Clinton’s lying under oath and suborning perjury were impeachable offenses and that a more civic-minded Senate would have removed him from office. But despicable as everything is that Obama believes in, has he personally presided over anything legitimately illegal while in office? If so, I can’t think of what it is.

WesternActor on August 21, 2010 at 8:21 AM

Fun fact re: ObamaCare.

I am shopping around for a new health plan. I was told that starting Oct. 1, all plans offered by my provider will have a separate $5K prescription deductible to conform with O-Care. My plan now has $250 deductible.

I hate this man more every day.

When he nationalized GM he picked which dealers stayed and which went based on the amount of donations to Dems. That’s illegal. Also he confiscated money from GM to give to the UAW. That’s illegal.

Blame it on the messaging… and the many voters who are incapable of understanding brilliance.

mjbrooks3 on August 21, 2010 at 9:01 AM

I don’t think Boener should be the House leader. And any Repub that turns into a 2006 version, drunk on power and a RINO, should be voted out.

The electorate will never be the same again – this is not a one trick pony. I predict that with 100% certainty.

The electorate is mad as hell and they will not stand for this old school sh*t. The electorate will never again be bamboozled by a snake oil salesman from either party.

It needs to be! The “smart” analyst that keep saying that people don’t really like or trust the Republicans don’t really understand what is happening IMHO. Not being Democrats is all that is required. At no time was it ever so obvious that a particular was intentionally selling out the majority for the benefit of a minority be that black or union membership and favoring foreign interest over our own.

The only way to make sure both parties get the message is to punish the party in power. I hope that it is an absolutely a huge victory in both houses; but it’s not really about Republicans being so great.

I have a dream that every Democrat congressmen is defeated EXCEPT Nancy Pelosi, so she can sit there and watch as bill after bill flies past her baggy eyes and she can’t do anything to stop it. :)

Now that is funny. Look around, everything is mucked up now, they have turned a recession into a border line depression in a few short years. You need to get out more if you think things are going well.

I’m old enough to have lived through several of these downturns and it doesn’t take a genius to see that mixing a dogmatic true believing left with an inexperienced incompetent President has made this bad and it’s getting worse by the week. If nothing else some good old dead lock will be a relief; however Obamacare needs to be stopped ASAP before it completely destroys what is left of the economy.

Hey Pelosi… We have to vote to see what happens…..

johnnyU on August 21, 2010 at 5:55 PM

I want a Senate majority too, so they can investigate the hell out of the vote fraud in Minnesota and remove that assclown Al Franken. The Senate has the power to do this. We need to send a mesaage to the SEIU/ACORN crowd that we are on to them and done with their hijacking of our elections. Then we need to pass a bill prohibiting public sector unions from making any political contributions.

seriously??? Ceausescu was summarily executed (on X-mas day btw), a month or so after his execution the provisional govt of Romania abolished the death penalty by decree… so, his execution was a political travesty, though sure some can argue that he deserved it…
