Audio: I wish they’d move the mosque, says … Howard Dean

posted at 5:32 pm on August 18, 2010 by Allahpundit

Via Breitbart. Normally I wouldn’t bore you with three mosque posts in a row but this is such a thunderbolt coming from a true-blue lefty that it won’t wait. I can’t imagine that Dean-o really believes what he’s saying here; the mosque is too much of a cause celebre on the left at this point for him to deviate for reasons of conscience. Presumably he’s simply so terrified by the polling on this issue that he’s willing to do whatever damage control he can to mitigate losses in November. (He’s a former head of the DNC, remember, so he’s used to thinking in electoral terms.) If so, that’s a good idea: A new poll out from Gallup within the last hour or so shows 37 percent disapprove of Obama’s comments on the mosque last week versus just 20 percent who approve. Those numbers aren’t disastrous for Dems given that most of the opposition comes from Republicans, but the split among indies is 21/32 overall and 15/27 on the question of whether one strongly approves/disapproves. As Geraghty noted earlier today, they’re already getting killed among independents in various tight Senate races so they can’t afford to do any more bleeding. I think this is Dean’s attempt to fashion a tourniquet by signaling to lefties that it’s okay to take a more moderate position on this issue in the interest of making it go away. Think they’ll listen? Me neither.

Exit question: Will the same Democratic thoughtcrime investigator charged with examining Harry Reid’s opposition to the mosque also be responsible for investigating Dean-o’s?

On Morning Joe this morning, the collection of liberals–especially Scarborough–spent three hours talking about how crazy some GOPers (especially Gingrich) have been on this on this issue. They then tied it with the AZ legislation and Prop 8 to argue that the Republican Party will go down in flames over these social issues because independents will sprint from them. One or two of them insisted that, given Michigan’s muslim population, the GOP can kiss Michigan goodbye forever.

I know the left supports this, but from what I have seen a lot of regular rank and file Democrats are not all that crazy about this thing being built either. If that imam had not made the comments about Osama being made in the USA some of them might not be so against it, but this is something that life long Democrat New Yorkers are having a problem with.

The party of incoherence.

Not really, actually. They’re very coherent among themselves and know what they want. But their coherent vision doesn’t work and increasingly won’t sell. As a result, what we’re seeing is disintegration.

rrpjr on August 18, 2010 at 6:05 PM

Buckeye:

I doubt if that is true. I saw this over Rasmussen about Michigan:

Republican Rick Snyder starts the general election campaign with a double-digit lead over Democrat Virg Bernero in the first Rasmussen Reports survey of the Michigan governor’s race following Tuesday’s party primaries.

Snyder earns 49% of the vote, while Bernero, currently the mayor of Lansing, picks up 37% support. Three percent (3%) favor some other candidate in the race, and 11% remain undecided.

Political calculation, if utterly desperate.

This allows for the possibility of Democrats to talk out of both sides of their mouth. Protects/improves (in their minds, at least) the Dem incumbents’ chances of survival, in light of Obama’s statement.

The proper response is: “Gosh, we know these Moslems have really good intentions and that they really want to advance dialogue and good feelings between themselves and the American people. Warm fuzzies for all.

We think that’s a great idea, too. Unfortunately, the pain of the atrocity is still fresh. Much as we wish it was otherwise, this particular gesture of goodwill and friendship is simply not accomplishing its goal and is, in fact, acting against the admirable goals of the Imam.

Since we know that the Moslems genuinely want to extend peace and friendship to the community, we’d like to help. To that end, we pledge to work with them to find a suitable site for the Center and will bring together an ecumenical group of religious leaders to bridge the differences between communities.

We’re from the government, we’re here to help.”

I watched MSNBC last night with a liberal in the room. Are you sure you want to do that??

The Countdown host called the whole mosque thing “bull..” since it is really just a community center and blah blah…He was chatting with some guy named Eugene who mumbles a lot. Then the square spectacle holder in the rough shape of a disfigured human head made a noise about “..the Ground Zero strip club…” among other tidbits.

For more proof that liberalism is mental illness, Google Parker and Mosque for her priceless article. Lord help our country, I could give up 25 IQ points and still find her drivel inane. They are wired to make conclusions based on the most specious information and and have an automatic response to select stimuli. What are the property tax implications of building a 13-story mosque in this (expensive part of Manhattan?
.
What about any other taxes applied to buildings in NYC?
.
if 1 story is a mosque, and 1 more is for religious offices, teaching rooms, a library, etc., then what are the other 11 stories for?
.
Will they be taxed? If not, why not?
.
There are apparently 2 underground levels; for parking, I suppose.
.
Will they be taxed?
.
What are the tax ramifications of building this 13 story mosque?

From the link :

The fact that American Muslims want to pray and practice their religion close to where the 9/11 attacks occurred sends the clearest message to the Muslim world that America is indeed the country it purports to be: the nation where all citizens, regardless of race, gender, or creed, possess and exercise their freedom of speech and religion. We should never allow those who wish to do us harm to subvert the very principles with which our Nation is founded.”
