Audio: I wish they’d move the mosque, says … Howard Dean

posted at 5:32 pm on August 18, 2010 by Allahpundit

Via Breitbart. Normally I wouldn’t bore you with three mosque posts in a row but this is such a thunderbolt coming from a true-blue lefty that it won’t wait. I can’t imagine that Dean-o really believes what he’s saying here; the mosque is too much of a cause celebre on the left at this point for him to deviate for reasons of conscience. Presumably he’s simply so terrified by the polling on this issue that he’s willing to do whatever damage control he can to mitigate losses in November. (He’s a former head of the DNC, remember, so he’s used to thinking in electoral terms.) If so, that’s a good idea: A new poll out from Gallup within the last hour or so shows 37 percent disapprove of Obama’s comments on the mosque last week versus just 20 percent who approve. Those numbers aren’t disastrous for Dems given that most of the opposition comes from Republicans, but the split among indies is 21/32 overall and 15/27 on the question of whether one strongly approves/disapproves. As Geraghty noted earlier today, they’re already getting killed among independents in various tight Senate races so they can’t afford to do any more bleeding. I think this is Dean’s attempt to fashion a tourniquet by signaling to lefties that it’s okay to take a more moderate position on this issue in the interest of making it go away. Think they’ll listen? Me neither.

Exit question: Will the same Democratic thoughtcrime investigator charged with examining Harry Reid’s opposition to the mosque also be responsible for investigating Dean-o’s?

AP, I am stunned at not only the amount, but the severity of the self-inflicted wounds that Mr. Obama et al. have suffered. I cannot fathom it, one after another—immigration–arterial wound, mosque–chest wound, economy–head wound, they are simply all very serious in their own right. When taken collectively, what on earth is going on?

Interesting site that. Did not know about it. Sign the pledge? I’ll keep looking to see how that turns out. My family is in various arms of the building trades so might find that an entertaining site. Tell me if you know–are there any Muslim contractors in the NY area? I should think so. Are the implications here that no one will work for them?

jeanie on August 18, 2010 at 6:56 PM

This flame is just beginning to burn. Rush pointed out today (rightly so, IMO) the hypocrisy of the left on this: No way can we let Muslims buy our ports!!!! Um, yes sir! let them build a mosque at ground zero cuz THAT’S a freedom of religion issue (um, no it’s not).

Quote from another poster on another thread:

For apologists for Islam, please allow me to set the record straight:

Islam is NOT a religion!!! Please burn that FACT into your fevered brow!

Religion is part of Islam, but just a part!

There is NO separation between the “religious” and the “political” in Islam…..

The goal of Islam is the establishment of a world caliphate and the imposition of shari’a law as dictated by the Qur’an and enforced by Islam “authorities.”

To those of you raising your voices in a chorus of apologies for Islam, be advised that under shari’a law, unless you are already a Muslim, you will have three choices: 1. Convert to Islam; 2. Submit to Islam [dhimmitude]; or, 3. Death! I reject all three choices!

If you believe Islam is a “religion of peace,” please try to understand the Islam definition of PEACE:

From the Qur’an: “The world will be at PEACE only when Islam and shariah reign in every country ~~ and NEVER until then!”

Any questions???

Given that we are what we eat, I have no doubts Pelosi eats a lot of fruit loops, as loopy as she is.

That being said….is it possible Dean, and other Dems are going in stark contrast to Pelosi, in order to deem her a nut, and relieve her of duty? Is that even possible, or in the realm of possibility? Because I can’t believe for a moment, Deans being sincere here. For Dims, it’s ALL about politics, control, and winning!

I don’t know. All I see is the whacko radicals blowing it up when the first brick is laid.

capejasmine on August 18, 2010 at 7:12 PM

When Baghdad fell to the coalition forces, American troops did not raise US flags because doing so was considered a sign of conquest.

Muslim culture and history are riddled with symbolism. Dates are important to them. Imam Rauf knows what the optics and message of the Cordoba Mosque would be. Who is he kidding? The mosque in the shadow of the WTC is a blatant thumb in the eye of America, not a symbol of reconciliation. (Or does Rauf intend to say that the US had better “reconcile” herself to sharia law and Islamification?)

The DNC internals must be lower then anyone could imagine…Dean will next week promote a Reagan national holiday…say Bush didn’t lie…regret raising taxes…no the Soviet Union really doesn’t exist…here is one of Deans coherent statements:

Iran is a more complex problem because the problem support as clearly verifiable as it is in North Korea. Also, we have less-fewer levers much the key, I believe, to Iran is pressure through the Soviet Union. The Soviet Union is supplying much of the equipment that Iran, I believe, most likely is using to set itself along the path of developing nuclear weapons. We need to use that leverage with the Soviet Union and it may require us to buying the equipment the Soviet Union was ultimately going to sell to Iran to prevent Iran from them developing nuclear weapons. That is also a country that must not be allowed to develop nuclear weapons much the key to all this is foresight. Let’s act now so we don’t have to have a confrontation which may result in force, which would be very disastrous in the case of North Korea and might be disastrous in the case of Iran.

(at the time of the speech, the Soviet Union was not the Soviet Union)

Dean said on WABC radio today the mosque plan “a real affront to people who lost their lives” and laments Islam’s being “in the 12th century” in Iran and some other Muslim countries.

He also says he believes the Cordoba organizers are in good faith, and that their project should be built elsewhere.

What a racist…..
…….just another dumb,redneck bigot…..
…………Bet Dean and Reid both go to NASCAR races and look for Gay couples to beat up.
…..According to super smart MSNBC liberals host Nora….Dean and Reid are no different than the jihadist that flew the planes into the towers….

It is unbelievable that democrats would allow such ignorant racist to represent their party……
….where are the morals and ethics of democrats….where is their steadfast commitment to reject and denounce such obvious racism like Reid and Dean……

….when will Obama and the democratic community show the strength and leadership to stand up for religious freedom in America….stand up for equality…..stand up for the rights of muslims to teach and implement sharia law……stand up by denouncing the obvious racism and bigotry coming from democratic majority leader Reid and democratic leader Howard Dean……..
….Come on democrats….come on Obama…..make a stand…show some strength and morality by telling Harry Reid to step down and telling the Nation that he and Dean do not represent the democratic party taking this terrible, racist position against Freedom of Religion.

….next they will probably say that the TEA PARTY is represented by Americans exercising their first amendment rights and freedom of dissent….

……ohhhhhhh the horrrror!!!!

Democrat crackup. Hey, you pinheads at Politico catching any of this?

JammieWearingFool on August 18, 2010 at 5:37 PM

Was that article just a hoot?

Classic Politico, but that was the implied gist of Weigel’s piece in Slate yesterday too: Republicans are all supposedly riven with dissent, at each others’ throats over this & leading their party to electoral doom & the ashheap of history for allegedly demagoging the GZ mosque (um, no).

But all these Democratic voters (along with 70% of the American people) going against their party, all these Dem officeholders going against their leadership, heck even Democratic leaders going against the rest of the leadership and the Democratic President going against himself on the very same issue are evidence of…nothing.

But the really intriguing story is how all these ex-Journolisters are still working in miraculously perfect mind-meld, cranking out virtually identical talking points by magic every day as if Ezra had never pulled the plug.

Amazing. Can’t wait for the leaking of the archives of the new & improved super-duper Top Secret JournoList clubhouse.
