Poll: What was the Obamateurism of the Week?
posted at 9:00 am on August 15, 2010 by Ed Morrissey
Get your scorecards out, because it’s time once again to choose the Obamateurism of the Week! Trying to spot an OOTD is kind of like opening a Coke can in … er, another Coke can, so just consider the poll a bonus. Some may be looking forward already to next week’s poll, but just try to give this Obama’s Mr. Spock approach and you’ll live long and prosper — and that may be why prosperity seems like something from another planet to the President.
Previous 2010 “winners”:
- Obama scolds politicians with “We shouldn’t be campaigning all the time” … while on The View
- Obama says First Couple “not far removed” from economic pain in financial collapse despite making millions in 2008
- Obama expects to be held accountable on jobs, but it’s Bush’s fault
- New NASA mission objectives all about self-esteem, none about space
- Obama misquotes Statue of Liberty poem and screws up its history
- Obama golfs as BP’s CEO yachts
- Obama says Gulf disaster will have similar impact to 9/11, then goes golfing the next day
- “We talk to these folks because they potentially have the best answers so I know whose ass to kick“
- “Singularly focused” Obama’s golfing, fundraising, vacation, and sports events
- “Obviously, the loss of Daniel Pearl was one of those moments that captured the world’s imaginationbecause it reminded us of how valuable a free press is.”
- Criticizes AZ immigration enforcement for paper checking while Secret Service checks immigration statusof students at Obama event
- “Information becomes a distraction” with X-boxes, PlayStations, iPods, iPads
- “I mean, I do think at a certain point you’ve made enough money.”
- President who demands that Americans show health-insurance papers suddenly skittish about residency documents
- Playing golf instead of paying respects to the late Polish president
- “Whether we like it or not, we remain a dominant military superpower”
- Gives 17-minute answer to question about being overtaxed
- Believes Tea Party core is Birthers
- Obama refused to be seen with Netanyahu
- “Your employer, it’s estimated, would see premiums fall by as much as 3000%!”
- Obama off by $868 billion on CBO deficit savings projection of ObamaCare
- Obama challenges GOP on tort reform, winds up proving GOP point on reconciliation
- Obama’s “Acme Insurance” anecdote proves he doesn’t understand insurance
- Obama claims 2 million jobs saved or created, website shows 590K
- Obama gripes about filibusters in a year with none … after having 60 seats in the Senate
- Obama says “corpse-man” for corpsman 3 times at Nat’l Prayer Breakfast
- Scolding the Supreme Court over ruling that he got completely wrong during SOTU
- People are unhappy with Obama’s performance because he didn’t get enough public face time to explain himself
- Suddenly jobs saved or created “never expected to be the public accounting of Obama’s goal to save or create 3.5 million jobs”
- Obama rushes home for minor injury to family friend, keeps golfing after EunuchBomber attack

Got an Obamateurism of the Day? If you see a foul-up by Barack Obama, e-mail it to me at obamaisms@edmorrissey.com with the quote and the link to the Obamateurism. I’ll post the best Obamateurisms on a daily basis, depending on how many I receive. Include a link to your blog, and I’ll give some link love as well. And unlike Slate, I promise to end the feature when Barack Obama leaves office.

Had to go with the American’s for Prosperity being run by foreigners???????? There has been a debate for many months if Obama is stupid or evil. I’ve had to resolve it for myself. The man is stupidly evil.

Maybe Ed will do the GZ Mosque on Monday, then we can vote on it next Sunday.
This is part of my Sunday routine to vote on the OOTW. I picked the Americans for Prosperity because we know Americans that want their country to be prosperous must by their very nature be foreign meddlers. Unbelievable quote.

I live in Texas, and everyone who does knows that UT Austin is uber liberal. BHO’s speech may have gone over well there, but his garbage doesn’t wash with the rest of us Texans.
madmonkphotog on August 15, 2010 at 9:19 AM
He was for the mosque, er, Islamic community center, before he was against it, or something. Ditto on the write-in campaign.
And I have two things to say to all those people who keep yelling out, “the mosque isn’t even at Ground Zero!!” First, it arguably is at Ground Zero since a set of landing gear from one of the planes that flew into the WTC damaged one of the buildings that will be torn to make way for a mosque, er, Islamic community center.
Second, the proponents of the mosque, er Islamic community center, claim that they are attempting to build bridges and create dialogue with all faiths. But they fail to realize that you cannot create a dialogue by taking actions that offend the sensabilities of others. And building a mosque, er, Islamic community center, next to a spot where three thousand people were killed in the name of Allah offends the sensibilities of a great many people.
Bru on August 15, 2010 at 9:20 AM
Well other than the mosque stuff, I’ll have to say the Americans for Prosperity remark. That’s pretty good coming from a creature of the Center for American Progress.

Actually, the speech at the fund raiser was just O being O in campaign mode. The part about Americans for Prosperity was an outright lie and more jabbing at the SC for their ruling. We may look at him and see a fool, but he’s staying on his agenda and there are those who believe every word that comes out of his lying mouth.

Paul-Cincy on August 15, 2010 at 9:33 AM
I think that HA uses the Obamateurism for M through F for the week’s voting. The mosque travesty did not occur until Friday evening.
ObaMao has been running a constant campaign through his Organizing for America, so the slam against the GOP for campaigning is a gratuitous attack, sort of par for the course.
What I don’t like is his innuendo about Americans for Prosperity being foreign controlled when his own presidential campaign raised lots of questions re where his money was coming from since the security was disabled. He is guilty of classic projection in blaming others for what he and his cronies are guilty of doing.
I truly do not understand why that mosque thread was shut down. As I was following along, I saw no comments that offended the terms of service. Many of them were quite informative re the history and aims of Islam and its current spokesmen. This contrary behavior by the president is all of a piece that raises questions about where O’s loyalties lie.
The blackout of news on this dinner and president’s remarks seems to be occurring elsewhere on the Web, too. The cone of silence has descended. Instead, we get feel-good stories of the First Family frolicking in Florida– for less than a day. Aren’t they special?
When stories about pot usage, the idiot flight attendant, “human interest” slams on the Palin family, and atheism dominate the Headlines and the threads, the whole forum of HA suffers. It’s discouraging to watch the changes in HA and the loss of some good commenters.

I am from Texas also, and the fundraiser quote was done to fire up his lib base in the People’s Republic of Austin. Pretty smart too. I am not sure it is a big deal.
It plays to his base, but the only counties in Texas that will support Dem candidates this fall will be Travis county (Austin), and Hildalgo, Willacy, Starr, Webb, etc along the Rio Grande Valley. The rest of the state is pretty much red.
So let him fire up his base where he can, he is gonna need em.
armygirl on August 15, 2010 at 9:35 AM
I noticed lately that a lot of print articles about this try to include some kind of measure of distance from the proposed mosque and Ground Zero. I assume it is an attempt to imply that they aren’t close. Your link would prove otherwise.
Cindy Munford on August 15, 2010 at 9:37 AM
Actually, I think his biggest “Obamateurism” this week was putting his fingers in the Ground Zero mosque situation. At first he endorsed the mosque – pretty much and … well today he’s saying his remarks weren’t a statement of support.
This has left Sarah Palin with a delicious opportunity to call out “The Champ” and demand he clarify where he actually stands on this issue.
By the way – anyone seen Bloomberg getting red in the face about this story?

Americans for Prosperity this week. Has the early voting begun for “Siding with the Mosque on ground zero”? I’d also like to add for next week, “In this country, we treat everybody equally.” Coming from Obama, that phrase takes on an exceptionally cynical tone.

Ed,
I have a lot of respect for this site and the two of you who run it. When I said I didn’t vote, it had nothing to do with the Mosque not being one of the options.
I would honestly like to hear why President Obama’s mishandling of the war in general and the institution of the current rules of engagement specifically, has never risen to the level of consideration. There is nothing that demonstrates to me the “amateurishness” of this man more than the manner in which he is prosecuting this war. I guess there is a chance I might have missed it one week, but I can’t recall his abilities as CinC to be listed.
Do we list these things as issues we’d like to draw people’s attention to or is it just for the sake of criticism? People need to know how badly the war is turning. We rarely discuss it.

Osama Obama’s remarks about the GZ mosque are the words of a closet Muslim who hates the country that has given him so much more than he deserved or worked for.
I’ve been meaning to say this for some time: Ed, the “Obamateurism” gag has long since run its course. If the Traitor-in-Chief is doing anything amusing, it is far overshadowed by the absolute evil of his regime.
As long as “conservative” blogs in general and HA in particular continue to giggle about the Chicago Jesus tripping over his own feet and don’t start consistently advocating an in-depth look at what is really happening, Obama wins. And we lose.

I also found that offensive. All that crap about how laws in this country apply equally to everyone — unless you’re part of a special interest group whose votes Obama needs (like hispanic illegal aliens). In that case, you’re free to violate any laws that inconvenience you (e.g., immigration laws, tax laws, identity fraud laws, etc.), and Obama will fight tooth and nail against any American or state that tries to equally enforce the laws.
I don’t know about anybody else, but I’m sick of being lectured to about my country by this hypocritical son of a Kenyan communist.

I don’t have a problem with Mr. President’s Ground Zero remarks, they sounded like they came straight out of a can (like most of his remarks do)…he said what he thought he had to say about religious rights. However, if he didn’t want to come off as an insensitive jerk, he should have added that while we do honor religious rights as a country, choosing to build a mosque at Ground Zero was an insensitive act and an insult to Americans in general and those involved were acting stupidly. Today I read that the developers are open to building somewhere else, but that’s no thanks to Mr. President or Mr. Bloomberg.

While I understand what you are saying about constructive criticism, that isn’t really applicable here. OOTW has always been from the prior week’s OOTD. Ed gets to make the rules.
If he doesn’t have that as an OOTD this week, then I’d say some constructive criticism is warranted. But today, it’s just whining.

First thing from AP, I mean first thing, was “Bush would have done it, too.”

And when it is an OOTD, it will much better to add the attempted backtrack from yesterday!

Focusing on today’s application only, of coarse you are right. However, this blog will remain one of the best sources for current news as long as a certain formula remains; big difference between an ass kissing and constructive criticism. Yes, we are all guests here. Yes, our hosts have bosses and a need to be viable in the market. Yes, some whining takes place here. Yes, our hosts deserve an occasional pat on the backside for a job well done. Yes, our hosts also need constructive criticism in order to keep sharp and remain on top of their game.
With that said, may all of you (including our hosts) have a wonderful Sunday. Off to get some things done around here while the weather is good. Before I know it, winter will be here and I will looking back wishing I had accomplished more. I have several piles of logs that need to turn into firewood, and with both sons off to college now, looks like it’s me… :-)
