Good news: Hard-workin’ president taking another vacation
posted at 5:37 pm on August 12, 2010 by Allahpundit
Hey, a man’s got a right. You think those East Room ceremonies with championship sports teams are as easy as they look? Besides, performing the Miracle of the Disappearing Oil has taken a lot out of him. It’s like when Yoda raised Luke’s fighter out of the Dagobah swamp: When you’re tossing out that much Jedi mojo, you need a good hard rest afterwards.
His next planned miracle, by the way? Taking responsibility for the economy instead of blaming Bush every five minutes. Save your strength, champ.
There they go again. For the fifth time since July, the first family has set plans to board Air Force One for a frilly vacation, a 10-day return trip to exclusive Martha’s Vineyard where they are expected to stay at the 28-acre oceanfront Blue Heron Farm that rents for up to $50,000 a week.
But first the Obamas will be traveling to the Gulf Coast of Florida for a mini-vacation as a way to encourage other vacationing Americans to head to the beaches that have been shunned by tourists worried about oil-slicked sands due to the Gulf oil spill. They are expected to travel to Florida this weekend, return to Washington for a few days then it’s off to the Massachusetts island August 19…
There are two angles to the criticism: The Obamas are flaunting their status at a time of economic hardship around the country and the costs to taxpayers are too high. The White House, and all past White Houses for that matter, dismiss the criticisms. But for the record, an administration official addressed the cost issue to Whispers, saying, “hotel bills and restaurants are paid for privately. Security and transportation fall under the same rules as have applied to any previous first family travel—the costs are split appropriately with private expenses paid for privately. Government expenses are paid for by the government,” says the official.
The point about ritziness during a recession is fair enough but I don’t think the public cares about the cost. Security and transportation are priced into the presidency under any circumstances. What hurts The One is the perception of detachment, which is why the meme about him playing golf during the worst days of the oil spill got such traction. In fact, scroll down to the end of the U.S. News piece above and you’ll see that he actually hasn’t taken much vacation time at all — just a few days here and there, with Michelle’s solo royal excursion to Spain the only one that drew any attention. It’s the day-to-day tone-deafness, like crooning “Hey Jude” with Paul McCartney while the media’s reporting another gajillion gallons of oil in the gulf and a looming apocalypse in the Middle East and a possible double dip recession on the way, that grates. Doesn’t he care how it looks, if only because he’s got a killer election less than three months away? I’m guessing … no, he really doesn’t, or else his press secretary wouldn’t be walking around insulting the liberal base. Mystifying.

Long ago, in a school room in Indonesia…
“What do you want to be when you grow up, Barry?”
“I want to be the US President when I grow up, Ms. Wati”
“Can you explain why you want to be the US President, Barry?”
“Because I don’t want to ever freakin’ work, Ms. Wati”
:P

I care, and I think I’m a pretty average American. It costs a wholw lot more for security at a 5 star resort in Spain, compared to a ranch in Texas or a national park. It’s not their money! And we have record breaking deficits! They really don’t seem to understand that.

All the vacations might not seem that bad if it ever looked like Obama was working hard. Even his so-called great achievement of health insurance reform was farmed out to the democrats in Congress, it’s not like he did much, except give some campaign speeches.

I meant to comment but when it actually came to saying something about this, couldn’t find words to describe my feelings.

Isn’t it more like 10-2:30?

A little too late to come down to Florida…Our tourist season is about over (and dead!!), our kids are going back to school next week. Why couldn’t you show this two months ago when everyone was making vacation plans?
Save your . . . or my tax money . . . and stay home.

Dreams from Obama:
Living the life style of the rich & famous; with taxpayer money.
The Audicity of the Vacationing President During a Recession:
As Americans forgo their vacations to pay their bills; Obama sends huge bill to taxpayers for his lavish vacations.

Past presidents have often been noted for working late, even taking the work to bed with them. We have documentation of past presidents working in their office or in meeting of various purposes. We have watched them age fast trying to keep up with the responsibilties and work that a president needs to do.
When Obama arrived at the white house one of his first statements was surprise at how much work a president has to do. Later when asked what he does everyday he tells us he reads reports and “stuff”. “Stuff” is what a child uses when they are without an answer or not sure what the correct answer is. Reading that he has spent time in the presidential
Since his arrival we have seen very little that suggest that he is actually doing something more than deligating his responsibilites to others, signing documents that require his signature and reading speeches that others wrote for him. As demonstrated by his giving the Irish priministers speech without not even realizing it and thanking himself as well, show that he is not even aware of what he is reading. He can sound good as he does it, but it is only because the Nation of Islam trained him to do so. In short his is an actor playing a part.
The meeting with the BP executives was telling. Obama showed up at the meeting for about ten minutes. That is enough time for introductions and handshaking, then he left to let the big boys work on the issues.
We see him in photo ops and acted skits on a regular basis. Usually they are related to an issue that requires an adjustment of public perception. We rarely, if we have, see any work that goes with them, unless someone else does it for him.
Its hard to notice that he has let his hair go grey or has dyed it. It is what you would do if you want to create the image that you are working hard that the effort to solve the economic crises is taking its toll. It seems to have done so after he began to take critism for all the playing and vactations and screwing up with handeling crises.
His people need to cut the flac that the president needs a vacation just like anyone eles. One vacation, taken close to home would be enough considering the problems the country should be enough. Eight is seven too many. If he was working so hard to solve the problems, there would be no time to vacation. There certinally would not be a ten day window to goof of in the lap of luxuery. But then he probably has cabin fever and is tired sitting around with nothing to do between speeches and photo ops, of watching basketball games, shooting baskets and having beer conferences.
All does not seem well in the Whitehouse. Obama has become reclusive and the smile is gone. He buries himself into sports and seeks out the company of the ones he favors. Michelle walks around with a frown on her face and her arms bared as if ready for a fight. She is on this heathy America kick and yet she has a bit of a pouch and her youngest daughter is a bit puggy. When the smiles are hung out, it just feels like window dressing.

We are casting for the part of ‘young Barry’ as we speak. We ran into issues when it was discovered that Gary Coleman passed recently.

Why should he have to work?
Isn’t that what all those czar’s are for?
CrazyFool on August 13, 2010 at 8:37 AM
And the best we can get from the fellating media is “optics”.
Not that I’m surprised. It’s the same media that, during the worst of Clinton’s lying and suborning perjury, could only marvel at how adept he was at it.
Extrafishy on August 13, 2010 at 9:21 AM
What do we expect? The mans never worked a hard day in his frickin life. And why bother? He’s got a multitude of problems, and no clue how to solve any of them. He’s inept, and incomptetent.
It’s either that, or he’s truly a dictator who doesn’t give a damn what the American people think. He knows he’s not going anywhere in 2012.
Now I’m wondering…this lame duck congress. Will the annoint him life long leader, and make being anything but liberal commies illegal?

He starts his Ramidam tonight. Then he will need a vacation to rest up from a trip to Medina.

You are absolutely right, Allahpundit. The apocalypse is coming to the Middle East, and then after that, to a theatre in YOUR neighborhood… get ready for it. Get saved. Get in Christ. That’s the only safe way out. Thank you so much.
PS. OH!, I love you.
