Dem leadership warns candidates: Don’t talk about our “accomplishments” on the trail
posted at 4:17 pm on August 9, 2010 by Allahpundit
Cosmic irony on a day when the Perpetual Campaigner’s busy crowing that the GOP spent the past year and a half politicking while his side’s been doing the heroic work of governing. What sort of heroic work, specifically? Shhhhh. We’re not supposed to talk about that.
As Democrats fan out across the country to campaign for reelection this month, many are surprisingly quiet about their hard-won accomplishments — the major bills they have passed under President Obama.
In an effort coordinated with the White House, congressional leaders are urging Democrats to focus less on bragging about what they have done — a landmark healthcare law, a sweeping overhaul of Wall Street regulation and other far-reaching policy changes — and more on efforts to fix the economy and on the perils of Republican control of Congress…
Democratic strategists privately acknowledge that their party’s legislative record, while far-reaching and popular with party regulars, has limited political benefit in swing districts and in a stubbornly sluggish economy.
“Our candidates’ job is not to sell the accomplishments of the past but to send a message that strikes a chord,” said a senior Democratic advisor who did not want to be identified while discussing strategy. “I am not one who thinks our candidates should go out and sell healthcare reform. They have to stay focused on jobs, the economy and shaking up Washington.”
If they’d stayed focused on jobs and the economy instead of spending nine months gestating an unsustainable new boondoggle, they wouldn’t need to practice omerta about their track record now. An irony to savor, though: Didn’t the nutroots heroes in the lefty blogosphere insist repeatedly at the time that passing O-Care was the only sensible electoral course of action, precisely because it would give Democrats something to boast about in the fall? Letting the bill drop and shifting to an economy agenda would depress the lefty base, we were told, which would mean total destruction for The One’s party in the fall. It was those darned wingnuts, as I recall, who warned that passing the bill would cost them votes on balance because it would alienate many more righties and independents than it would encourage liberals. Am I to take it from this LAT story that the Democratic leadership has now decided that we were right? Granted, Claire McCaskill et al. would say that it’s only because America’s troglodytic voters are too stupid to appreciate the glory that is ObamaCare, but be that as it may, electoral reality is electoral reality.
From this morning’s Today show, here’s poor sap Tim Kaine assuring America that Democratic candidates should be thrilled to campaign with Obama even though The One himself has offered to keep his distance if it’ll help them in the fall. Too bad he isn’t more serious about that: Texas gubernatorial nominee Bill White spent the day looking for a hole to crawl into while O was in-state to fundraise. Ah well. I’m glad he’s at least using his time on the trail to try out some new one-liners, even if there aren’t any local Democratic pols around to hear them.

Is Cloward-Pivening the country an “Accomplishment”?

Yep do that Jobs and the economy.
and then tell us why we shouldn’t back that car up to when Bush was in office and the stock market was nearing 15,000 and unemployment was 4%.

Maybe somebody should tell Obama that the country actually does want to put his agenda of plunging the country into fiscal and economic Armageddon into ‘R’. Naw, it’s more fun giggling at him as he cluelessly tosses this out across all 57 states.

Yeah he’s bragging about all the wonderful things he accomplished that the majority of the public do not want. Not too good of a winning strategy if you ask me.And that silly driving metaphor about D for drive and R for reverse being Democrats going forward as D and Republicans going in reverse as R is just plain stupid. He himself told us we were driving over a cliff because of Republican policies and he saved us. Well if I’m on a cliff I think I’d rather put in reverse than drive over the cliff.

So we are better off with the stock market not at 15,000 and better off not having 4% unemployment?

I was watching a very good multi-part series documentary on the Military Channel called The First World War.
The fourth episode is about the troubled alliance between Germany and the Austro-Hungarian Empire, which was split with ethnic strife and endemic economic problems.
The episode was titled, “Shackled to a Corpse“.
Why does this story remind me of that title?

Very few people are going to buy “the perils of Republican control of Congress”.
Democrats have owned Congress since 2006. This is 2010. They own everything.

If that second paragraph [in the LA Times piece] is right, even the White House by now understands how unpopular Democratic policies have been. Apparently the only people who are surprised by this are liberal journalists.

I just made that observation up. It is because Hume is credited for the framework of Federalist #10. Go Wiki and see Madison on factions and the destruction of wealth. Beck never gets into this stuff since it is really boring. The ideas come from Hume!

Why the White House does not want them to talk about the so called accomplishments is that these accomplishments were made in direct conflict with the American Public and the American People believe that it is Tyranny. The White House and the democrats in Congress know that the American people wanted no part of these accomplishments so now they will hide like the rats that they are. If they were proud of what they done, you wouldn’t be able to shut them up. A good slogan for a GOP candidate would be: If you like Communism vote Democrat.

“Some thoughts on those angry voters. Ask parents of any two-year-old and they can tell you about those temper tantrums: the stomping feet, the rolling eyes, the screaming. It’s clear that the anger controls the child and not the other way around. It’s the job of the parent to teach the child to control the anger and channel it in a positive way. Imagine a nation full of uncontrolled two-year-old rage. The voters had a temper tantrum last week….Parenting and governing don’t have to be dirty words: the nation can’t be run by an angry two-year-old.”

The Dems have a credibility problem and they have tossed their original plans down the memory hole. Will the media examine their archives on this issue? Not likely.
The original plan was to tout ObaMaoCare, selling its “fabulous benefits” to the rubes, and to trash W Bush whenever possible.
When voters find out how the latest FinReg legislation will adversely affect them, there will be a howl just as loud as is arising over ObaMaoCare.
The Republicans had better hammer home how much these “changes” are going to cost them in real bread-and-butter ways. For example, will their employer drop their medical insurance; will they be paying banking escalating banking fees; will their Medicare coverage decrease or will they find it difficult to locate a doctor who will serve them?
Add to that the decrease in exemptions for children, an increased marriage penalty, and so on if the Bush tax cuts sunset?
How can the Dems promise even better days ahead when the punishment for capital gains prevents businesses from hiring? How can their carbon credits schemes not raise energy (and thus, food, electriciy, and food) prices?
Who wants more Dem snake oil?

Worse than KKK night riders, the Dems dropped amendments and bribes in order to pass their deficit-raising bills that couldn’t stand the disinfectant of sunshine.
