Video: Another great campaign ad in a desperate cause
posted at 11:50 am on August 7, 2010 by Ed Morrissey
Minnesota’s Fifth Congressional District may be one of the most liberal districts in the nation. It sent Keith Ellison to Congress in 2006 and kept him there in 2008 by a 48-point margin. It’s a D+23 district according to the Cook Report, but that almost certainly understates the Sisyphean task any Republican would have in pushing Ellison aside, even in a year like this. Instead of Sisyphus pushing the boulder up the hill, Joel Demos gives us a slightly more modern take on how this task looks — and what it will take to succeed:
Joel has the unenviable task of door-knocking in this district, but from what I hear around the campfire, he’s taking that task and others very seriously. The ad may be a bit lighthearted, but Demos wants to beat Ellison and thinks he can do it. Click the link above to discover more. I’d be happy to see Ellison retired in this cycle; perhaps Demos can do it, or maybe Barb Davis-White can knock him out of office in the primary. Either way, it would be a monster win for MN-05 … and for the US.

He looks like a Chris Christie type. :)
Is he a fiscal conservative too??

Fresh blood and the best ad campaigns are happening this year!!

Demos? If Ed says so, where is the page to send money or volunteer?
IlikedAUH2O on August 7, 2010 at 11:59 AM
Great ad. Go Demos!
Lizzy on August 7, 2010 at 12:04 PM
A Monster Truck where the engine isn’t running? That’s the way the Democrats want it. Just having such a vehicle in his ad probably upsets the libs.
zmdavid on August 7, 2010 at 12:07 PM
Turn that baby loose on the government sponsored volt.
fourdeucer on August 7, 2010 at 12:09 PM
Hey, maybe the idiots in Ellison’s district will mistake “Demos” for a shortened form of “Democrat.” He just might have a shot.
iurockhead on August 7, 2010 at 12:11 PM
Note to Martha et. al.:
I was apparently wrong in my hoping for W’s book.
Apropos of this election, Rove suggested that the upcoming book by W wold hep the Dems in the upcoming midterms. Something about giving the majority disaster candidates something to talk about. Something other than their record and the condition of the country, that is. Book to be out later, in any case.
He doesn’t argue much with libs, though. Talking points and lies are like air and water to them and the last administration is like oxygen in those compounds.
IlikedAUH2O on August 7, 2010 at 12:11 PM
Ad would not load for me.

Where’s the Republican designation?
erp on August 7, 2010 at 12:23 PM
Second thought, fire that baby up and turn it loose on the entire liberal agenda.
fourdeucer on August 7, 2010 at 12:27 PM
All Ellison has o do is play the religious intolerance card.
It should be good yet. Maybe also get an endorsment from Hizzoner Mike Bloomberg.

I like the use of used, rusty chains. New chains would be too staged, Joel does not mind getting his shirt dirty…..great!
Demos is Greek for “people” (a good omen?)
FOWG1 on August 7, 2010 at 12:35 PM
Great AD and the point was right on.
Be prepared for the libs to counter that the AD was rigged.
MSGTAS on August 7, 2010 at 12:36 PM
I went to school with his sister. He is more of a Reaganite than even Christie, and yes fiscal conservative
ConservativePartyNow on August 7, 2010 at 12:40 PM
It’s a tough economy out there, but supporting someone like Demos will certainly help reverse that. Consider it an investment for the future, folks.
itzWicks on August 7, 2010 at 12:45 PM
Great ad. Oh yes, do take down Ellison.
Can’t wait to see what Romney is driving next week…

Love the ZZ Top guy in the background! The guy looks like a Chris Christie, but who is he and what does he stand for? Highlighting what he stands for might have made a larger impact.
Keith Ellison… bah.
Key West Reader on August 7, 2010 at 1:02 PM
A Volt. To shock his Dem base.
Key West Reader on August 7, 2010 at 1:03 PM
Easy to counter. If they claim someone was actually driving the Monster Truck of Deficit Doom? Claim it was Obama behind the wheel.
Key West Reader on August 7, 2010 at 1:04 PM
Are you sure that you want to lose the political diversity? Would America be worth living in then?

I haven’t seen a better ad in a long long time
Most pol ads use a smarmy female voice over, like some gossiping bee-hodge, to cluck disapproval of the opponent. Then they ask us to call the opponent and dump a load on them, or call the ad buyer and say thank you
This ad targets people who are searching for an out. That includes me. It makes me wish he was on my ballot and I don’t even know the guy, but I like him already
The ad made me happy, smells legit, and renews hope.
The nation is in a funk because the public senses the pols are working for themselves only
If his district is hard core liberal, I only admire this candidate more for taking on the challenge. This is Reaganesque – optimistic and willing to charge on against the nay sayers, because he knows there is a better future for those who will persevere.
If he loses, I hope he keeps on running. Reagan lost before he won and it was optimism which kept him going
entagor on August 7, 2010 at 1:12 PM
He had a gold-fringed flag.
gooddad on August 7, 2010 at 1:12 PM
My fellow Minnesotans didn’t give a crap that Franken is mentally deranged, they also don’t care that Ellison smacked his woman around. He is a good, solid, fringe liberal and a muslim to the liberal whites of Uptown Minneapolis can pat themselves on the back for being multicultural.
Bishop on August 7, 2010 at 1:15 PM
I love Demos but I’m more optimistic of Cravaack pulling it out up in the 8th district. I was up in Grand Rapids the other day and saw dozens of Cravaack signs and not one for Oberstar. Both are long shots though but if a conservative can win in Minneapolis or the Iron Range, they can win anywhere.
Nelsen on August 7, 2010 at 1:28 PM
But without Oberstar we wouldn’t have a champion of building bridges everywhere whether we need them or not.
Bishop on August 7, 2010 at 1:43 PM
There is also a conservative woman running as a Democrat in Ellison’s district challenging him in the primary. When doing campaign research planning to run as a Republican, she got lots of statements saying essentially, “I really like what you are saying, if you were a Democrat, I’d vote for you!” So, she’s going to run as a Dem; her values are solid but she feels the district is so steeped in voting for democrats, that the only way to have a chance is to have the (D) after your name.

Just donated $100.00.
Let’s get Joel some campaign funds. I’ll match any combined total of contribution up to another $200. Just post here that you donated something, anything. $5, $10, $25. Just donate. I’ll match up to two hundred dollars in donations.
Let’s help a “brutha” out!

I’m retired, so I have to scrutinize every $ which exits my wallet. I’ll donate 10 bucks for our country’s future. Go get ‘em tiger!

Running against Keith Ellison – D-Mecca
Captain America on August 7, 2010 at 3:39 PM
Just a little more insight into campaign. Barb Davis-White was the Republican candidate who ran against him in 2008. (or actually he ran away from her, not exactly one who wanted to confront her).
Dont know all the details why but she did not go for the Republican endorsement this year and did not get the Independence party endorsement (actually they endorsed no one at convention. From those I know that were there things seemed a bit .. strange)
She was determined to do whatever she can to get rid of Mr Ellison, so to that end she is running against him for the Democratic endorsement in this Tuesdays primary!
She is very conservative and a minister. One impressive lady I have to admit.
RuffledRaven on August 7, 2010 at 4:18 PM
He has about the same chances of winning that district as Maxine Waters has of becoming the next Governor of Texas…aint gonna happen….ever.
