The obligatory “people angry about Michelle Obama’s Spain trip” post

OK so I can buy the argument that Obawa needs a vacation. All presidents do. And obviously he won’t be staying at a Super 8 Motel.

But why does Michelle need a vacation on her own? What grueling 60 hour a week job is she vacating from? Tending to the WH garden must be tougher than I imagined.

A president and his family is entitled to a vaction and so the justification spin goes, but eight, three of which have cost the taxpayers hundreds of thousands of dollars, is beyond the pale of political correctness and common sense. So why has they done it?

We have no idea why and those that know are just spinning the wheel with no intent of telling us. That leaves us to make educated guesses as to why they need so many vacations.

Obama’s “I WON” answer is a good place to start. It is a Theme that we see repeated in his speeches where “I” and “MY” are heard often and “YOU” is a shaded extention of his desires.

Obama obviously entered the whitehouse believeing he that now had the power to do what ever he wanted and that once he had done it the people would see he was right and laud his leadership.

As is now known, that has not happened and is not likely to happen. It obviously is wieghing on Obama even as he tried to deny it, to push it aside, to convince himself that the American people voted for his changes.

The spin is that Obama is working hard and dealing with econoic issues caused by Bush, before the democrates took congress during the last two years of his being in office. The question is; aside for photo ops and self promotional events, what have we seen him doing that could be conisidered work that he personally has done? Take the meeting with the BP CEO. Obama showed up for ten minutes, which is just about long enough for introductions, then left so they could work on the problem.

I think it goes without saying that Obama is a deligater of his responsibities to others. He is careful not to put himself into a postion that does not have deniablity and someone to take the responisbilty if things go wrong, but easy to take the credit from if it goes right. It is a personality trait characteristic of narcissism. One of the facts that maybe in play here is a narcissist can not accept failure.

There was a change in him last summer when his polices, congress memebers, and by extention, himself, were soundly rebuked by the majority of the public. He became less public, fewer speeches and less assessable by the press. This summer has faced even greater voter rejection through their own initiatives and those of the states they live in.

The vactions are probably more to maintian his stability than to rest at this point.

This latest vacation is the oddest. Michelle takes off with her youngest daughter and has an elaberate vacation in Spain, while the presient stays home, which is in sharp contrast to last years celebration with the fancy cake and all. The oldest daughter’s attending a sleepover summer camp for two weeks was more important than going to Spain and seeing the King and Queen. Seems to say the Spain vacation was a last minute arrangment of the oldest daughter was left behind for a reason. A sleep over summer camp does not seen to be up to a good reason.

My speculation is that more is going on than we know about. Maybe there is a family problem, maybe someone is lossing it and someone else just wanted to get some space. Perhaps the oldest daughter sided with her father on it.

The other odd thing is the lonely birthday he had. It was with friends, a few that support him and in Chicago, away from the white house.

Lets hope that what ever is going on holds together until we can do something about it.
