The obligatory “people angry about Michelle Obama’s Spain trip” post

My feeling about this is that if the White House thinks the trip is worth the horrible optics it’s generating, then hey — have at it. Sure, it looks terrible to be taking a glamorous, expensive vacation overseas while the latest stage of unemployment doom is descending, and sure, it makes The One’s class warfare schtick even more ridiculous than it usually is, but he and Axelrod and Plouffe and Rahm are big boys. If they think R&R for Michelle on a cordoned-off Spanish beach is worth having articles like this circulating in major papers three months before the midterms, fine with me. As for the taxpayer expense for security, transportation, etc, (a) those same expenses would be incurred to some (lesser) extent during a U.S. vacation and (b) given the aortic hemorrhaging that is our national debt, what’s a little vacation paper cut here and there? If we’re headed for Greece-style economic collapse down the road, then darn it, let’s at least let FLOTUS see Majorca before the roof starts caving in.

Exit question: A six-mile helicopter ride?

“The danger for the Obamas is that the trip may feed perceptions that they are elites, out of touch with struggling American families, said Chris Wilson, a Republican pollster.”
Now there’s a man with a firm grip on the obvious.

Off topic, but in reference to the AP News story in headlines about “birthers” giving up:

As it’s so short, I’m just going to reprint another AP article about the president’s birthday:

“Obama caps birthday week with golf, plans for BBQ”

Aug 7, 5:43 PM (ET)

WASHINGTON (AP) – President Barack Obama is capping his birthday week with an afternoon of golfing on Saturday and a barbecue on Sunday.

The White House says the president went golfing on Saturday with eight friends, some with ties to his college days, his hometown of Chicago and his childhood home state of Hawaii. They were spending the afternoon at the Andrews Air Force Base course.

On Sunday, Obama plans to host a barbecue for friends at the White House, ending a week in which he turned 49 without his family around.

First lady Michelle Obama and daughter Sasha are vacationing in Spain; the Obamas’ older daughter, Malia, has been at camp.

Obama’s birthday was Wednesday. He celebrated in Chicago with friends, including Oprah Winfrey.

Here’s my problem: I think I have a right to know WHO the president’s “friends” are! And I DON’T count Oprah!

The article mentions he went golfing with “friends” with ties to Hawaii and his college days.

Let’s see:

1. To the best of my knowledge, not ONE person has come forward that remembers him in Hawaii.

2. To the best of my knowledge, not ONE person has come forward that has any substantive remembrance of him in college.

This just stinks to high heaven and the stench just gets worse and worse as the media continues to refuse to report anything on his past.

We The People have the right to know who the president’s associates are, as they are instructive to his upbringing and character.

Who was admitted to Andrews AFB to go golfing with Obama? We have a right to know!

Obligatory, my ass. AP it is legitimate issue since it is certainly elective. If they choose to be extravagant while Rome burns, then let’s make this a point of substance (not style) and not diminish the issue with a snide, sarcastic headline. It’s immature.

Here’s the problem: SHE holidays wealthily in Spain while HE criticizes the wealthy… They are the politically STUPID couple! But we know that already.

Those two are gonna get divorced. Count on it. When it comes to vacations, people would get bored of me.

It’s no surprise none of his family was with Obama “for” his birthday:
During the 2008 campaign the Obamas were quoted as saying they don’t give Christmas or birthday gifts to their daughters because gift-giving encourages putting too much importance on “things”. Paraphrased, but that was basically the reason they gave. So how do they then reconcile this with their extravagant lifestyle?

Perhaps we should look at their gift-giving attitudes from another perspective. Perhaps dictates of religion enter into it – oh, something along the lines of Muslims don’t celebrate birthdays, or Christmas, either.

Kind of related in reasoning to why Michelle – the wife, the w-o-m-a-n – does not travel with Barack when he visits any Muslim country.

you people who do not like the “most perfect one” need to get over it, we are a what we or the obambats want us to be and that is that, the country is going to what most people want it to be…

Nawww, there are at least two of us. I commented here yesterday that her blouse looks like something made from a Yassir Arafat headdress.

Did you see what she wore to meet the King and Queen of Spain? Very cute if you are a fourteen year old girl going to church. NOT appropriate for the First Lady of the United States to wear anywhere in public.

To me it is a missed opportunity. The Obamas could have vacationed on the Gulf coast. Their media friends could have ran with the story every day they were there. Oh well. Let them continue to make mistakes.

This story is getting big coverage even in European newspapers. The comparison to Marie Antoniette is even made in several of them. Epic fail by the Obamas.

Yikes! And Michelle pays people to help her decide what to wear? Fire ’em and get Clinton and Stacey in there STAT.
The Spanish queen and her daughter look fabulous and appropriate.

The obligatory “people angry about Michelle Obama’s Spain trip” post

They are angry for the wrong reasons.

Several Arab Royal houses also spend their summers in Marbella for years. Thus, there will be an encounter between Michelle Obama and Prince Salman bin Abdul Aziz, Governor of Riyadh and brother of the late King Fahd of Saudi Arabia; while deck another meeting of the first lady with the owner of Málaga CF, billionaire businessman, son of the Interior Minister of Qatar and member of the Royal family Qatari, Abdullah Al-Thani.
