Quotes of the day

“You may not even want me to come to your district,” Mr. Obama said, according to guests, nearly all of whom hold seats that Republicans are aggressively seeking.

Three months before the midterm elections, the president is stepping up his involvement in the fight to preserve the Democratic Party’s control of Congress. But advisers said he would concentrate largely on delivering a message, raising money and motivating voters from afar, rather than on racing from district to district

The president, sensitive to the strains between the White House and Capitol Hill, has started inviting small groups of rank-and-file Democrats over for lunch. At a session last week, participants said, Mr. Obama made clear that he understood many lawmakers had taken difficult political votes to support his agenda…

But several Democratic candidates and party leaders said in interviews that they were not sure Mr. Obama’s political operation was focused on the 2010 fight, and they questioned whether the president sees himself as the head of the party.

“If Republicans do well in this election — and they will do well — the tea party people are going to be right out front claiming credit for everything good that happened,” Teixeira says. “That means they’re going to define Republicans even more than they’re defining them today, and that will make it very hard for Republicans to do what they have to do as they move into the 2012 cycle, which is move to the center. How do the Republicans do that when they’ve unleashed all these furies? It’s very difficult.”

Over the next couple of years, Obama and congressional Democrats could help Republicans escape their dilemma by pulling to the left and thus driving the center of the country to the right — far enough right to let the GOP build a winning coalition of libertarian independents, Republican partisans, and disaffected moderates.

If, however, Obama and the Democrats begin to look serious about controlling spending and deficits, if the economy recovers, and if bailouts fade into the past, the Republicans may find themselves with an unpleasant choice: Lose by embracing debranded Republicans, or lose by abandoning them — but lose either way.

The racism charge has been so overplayed, I think it is losing its sting and credibility. People are now just completely discounting the accusation since it is thrown out so often and so overused, particularly by the crazie lefties. It would help if more of the old white men in the pub party hit back hard when that accusation is flung around.

I don’t want you to come to the Oval Office.

Just counter these claims by pointing out the Republicans have fought and died for equality of African Americans for 150 years while Democrats only decided to support equality after they efforts to FIGHT equality were defeated.

Republicans fought and died to end slavery. Democrats fought and died to continue slavery. Republicans fought against Jim Crow laws while Democrats supported them. Republicans fought the KKK back to the darkest corners of existence while Democrats founded and supported the KKK. Republicans fought for Civil Rights while Democrats were against it. MLK was a Republican. His assassin was a Democrat.

I use this all the time and the left simply cannot defend it. They have no argument. They tuck tail and run from the debate at that point.

I love how left-wing pundits (with no love of Republicans) get away with frightening (or so it appears) Allahpundit and others by mearly mentioning alienating the moderates. Rush has done a very good summary of this handwringing.

As Rush says, it is a total misread of the country to think the currant crop of democrats can embrace any number of special interest groups like MoveOn.org, Netroots Daily Kos type bloggers, LaRaza demanding Amnesty, environmentalist wackos threatening cap-and-trade, SEIU threatneing card check and STILL have the largest majorities they HAVE HAD in 30 years. You can’t constatntly friggin react to democrats saying “better watch out for Palin”, “better watch out for the Tea Party”

The tea party is radical? On which position lower taxes? Less spending? According to what poll? I saw a recent poll that charted moderates CLOSER to the tea party than DEMOCRATS. Quit buying the democrat tea party SPIN for crying out loud!

Quit going for the head fake. The democrats don’t know what to do with Palin or the Tea Party as exhibited by their calling them racists and other names. If the so called “experts in electoral politics” are going to keep jumping to whatever tune the left plays we are doomed!

THEY got elected sticking to their principles. SO CAN WE!

WHY?

Because moderates are results orientated (they bitch about BOTH parties not being exactly like themselves)and socialism doesn’t work but conservatism does. They will vote how their lives are going.

FORGET FRUMISM!!! Skip the democrats scare tactics!

Jan Brewer has the cojones that our President does not have, to look out for all Americans, not just Arizonans, but all Americans in this desire of ours to secure our borders and allow legal immigration to help build this country.
~ Sarah Palin

Hey AP, are you feeling OK ?? How did you miss this ?? I hope you didn’t ignore this, because this is probably one of the strongest statements yet from ( what appears to be ) the only national opposition figure to go toe to toe with the Obozo on policy. This is a quote that needs to be reverberated. People will hear this and say “Finally, somebody’s saying out loud what we all think and needs to be said”. What I’m saying is that’s a quote the promotes Sarah Palin, and yet you somehow missed it ( especially on a slow Sunday night ).

Oh well, I hope ya get well soon buddy.

…Yeah right…..

…..it’s the economy stupid…….

………….and the democrats ideology and policies are economy killers. The best thing that could happen to Republicans is that democrats will continue to push the Obama agenda……it is nothing but a fast track to Cuba…..and America is starting to see that.

Baxter Greene on August 2, 2010 at 8:48 AM

If, however, Obama and the Democrats begin to look serious about controlling spending and deficits, if the economy recovers, and if bailouts fade into the past

That’s a lot of if’s…..

…How are the democrats going to “look” serious about spending and deficits when buying votes and increasing entitlements is the foundation on how they stay in power.

NY,Cali,MI,NJ,just to name a few are broke…taxed to death…..and up to their ears in entitlements because this is the democratic way.

Right now democrats are pushing open boarders and Amnesty for tens of millions of illegals. The vast majority of their lifestyles, and many more coming, are built on a foundation of entitlements…..massive spending…..adding to deficits.

You can’t have credible fiscal discipline and enact the democratic agenda at the same time….they are the antithesis of each other.

Baxter Greene on August 2, 2010 at 9:00 AM

Obama is a liability to the Democrats.

Know when to hold and when to fold, Mr. President.

The more he says, the more he shows up, the more he does, the more anger he generates.

His bet is that he can direct the American citizenry anger via Alinsky. After all, it worked so well across the globe.

Mr. Pantywaist has always been out of touch, “unengaged” as Mark Steyn so adeptly remarks.

Voters supposedly chose him over Hillary, then over McCain to be the one answering the 3a.m. call; when all along, it’s been “don’t call us, we’ll call you” from his owners and managers. Once in office, in EVERY piece of legislation moving his agenda along, word from Washingtonians has blatantly become, “STFU!” Take Pete Stark for another example, with “the feds can do whatever they want no matter what” message.

The longer American citizenry waits, the worse it gets for everyone except those presuming to be the elite owners of the world.

So the latest distraction away from the misery dealt from Obama/Congress is the beating of war-drums to strike Iran, whose literate and moderate population never received humane tax contributions from this potus vs. predecessors.

Iran isn’t Kosovo. And Obama isn’t Clinton. Neither is he LBJ. It would be so foolish for this potus to strike Iran as if to save Democrat candidates in election. Are Republicans so dense as to swallow anything Obama’s administration including the Joint Chiefs or Congress hand us when it comes to a preemptive strike against a serious threat, perhaps swallowing with the rationale that the Republicans will let it begin and then take over, as if that’s great, just what the world needs? I’ve heard it from morons before; “DESERVE” has nothing to do with it.

Another war conflict would play right into the hands of those promoting a universal draft of all citizens ages 18-48, two year stint in Obama’s Marxist world.

As Baxter Greene points out, the Amnesty for illegal aliens would place most Americans in such turmoil, there would be no effective opposition to the Marxists Federal US Government.

And Obama simply reads his lines from the teleprompter, unengaged from respecting the Constitution, rule of law, or human rights, while his voice drones his story book for the dupes who still hang on his every word.
