Breitbart: I’d like to talk to Sherrod privately

posted at 6:23 pm on July 30, 2010 by Allahpundit

He’s not talking about a beer summit but rather the opposite — a meaningful chat, not a damage-control photo op. And not to prostrate himself either: He wants to know, quite rightly, why her anger over what happened somehow led to accusing him of wanting to bring back slavery. Even big-name reporters are flummoxed about that one, to the point where Anderson Cooper actually apologized last night on CNN for not challenging Sherrod when she said it.

She said she simply wanted an apology. Why not just do it?
All I can say is that this is a person on national television who said I wanted to put blacks back into slavery. This thing has gotten to a place that’s far beyond where it should be. I’d be more than happy to meet with her in private and have a discussion with her…

How do you think this got so out of control?
At the beginning, Shirley Sherrod’s first comments were that she got caught between the NAACP and the Tea Party and she said that the NAACP is the reason for this. That’s her quote. The intent of my post was to challenge the NAACP in its six-day media-enabled negative branding of the Tea Party as racist using provably false information that the N word was thrown at the Congressional Black Caucus [earlier this year during the health-care debate]. I’ve been doing this for over a year, and this is just one more attempt of mine to point out to the general public that there’s consistency here in the Democratic Party to strategically issue the race card. My regret was that has been lost, and Shirley Sherrod became the focus…

But do you agree that the edited video took things out of context?
Well, yes. But I put up what I had. It granted a great portion of her redemptive tale, but not all of it. If I could do it all over again, I should have waited for the full video to get to me.

The whole interview’s worth reading. As for Sherrod’s lawsuit, which seems shaky from the get go, HuffPo’s right that the favorable coverage she’s gotten since this clusterfark started actually hurts her in court for the simple reason that it makes it harder to show damages. Assuming her new job will pay more than the old one, and assuming that most people who watched the initial clip now know that it didn’t provide fuller context, how do you quantify the harm done? Beyond that, what about the fact that even the initial clip contained a short bit from the part of Sherrod’s speech where she said she realized it wasn’t about black and white? Chris Matthews noticed that last night in his segment on Sherrod — or rather, his second segment on Sherrod, recorded after the first one earlier in the afternoon didn’t quite go according to script. Skip ahead to 9:00 or so for the key bit.

Sherrod got a taste for the attention, and when things quieted down for a day or two, she had to find something to rattle to bring the media back.

I wonder if Andrew already knew about the stuff from the American Thinker article now posted on his site.

Why not just admit he did his job (which isn’t exactly a particularly difficult or meaningful job mind you) poorly?

ernesto on July 30, 2010 at 6:32 PM

If I lived through what this woman lived through, I would probably be a bit of a bigot myself. If she doesn’t see it in herself, she shouldn’t be so sure about what she sees in others. All people have prejudices, it’s stupid to pretend otherwise.

Cindy Munford on July 30, 2010 at 6:33 PM

Most worthwhile thing I’ve read in Newsweek in a long while.

Breitbart’s an interesting guy. He has a much better grasp than most about how the left actually works, obviously a result of him being a part of it for so long. There are few others who are as effective at getting them to show their true colors as he is.

BadgerHawk on July 30, 2010 at 6:33 PM

what about the fact that even the initial clip contained a short bit from the part of Sherrod’s speech where she said she realized it wasn’t about black and white?

BB also pointed that out in the original post:

…And, she admits that she doesn’t do everything she can for him, because he is white. Eventually, her basic humanity informs that this white man is poor and needs help. But she decides that he should get help from “one of his own kind”. She refers him to a white lawyer

If BB supposedly went to the trouble to “drastically edit” the video to malign the woman, why would he not edit his written portion as well, and leave out this little bit o’ mitigation? In other words, not only did the Sherrod “walk back” make it into a video that was supposedly edited to slander her, BB actually drew attention to it by writing about it.

SAM DONALDSON: I believe in the first amendment, there’s nothing you can do about it, although you wish for Joseph Welch to say as he did to Joe McCarthy, when Joe McCarthy was destroying someone on television: “Have you no decency at last?”

Their meme never strays far from McCarthy.

I remember Whoopi said that to McCain on The View. Is that a common thought? Do people really think that about other people, or do they just use it as a conversation nuker. Something so outrageous that there’s really nothing more that can be said about it.

Beyond that, what about the fact that even the initial clip contained a short bit from the part of Sherrod’s speech where she said she realized it wasn’t about black and white?

Really??!!

Did you watch the same video I did?

Because right after she said it wasn’t about black and white, she corrected herself and then kind of sorta corrected herself again:

That’s when it was revealed to me that, y’all, it’s about poor versus those who have, and not so much about white — it is about white and black, but it’s not

Combined with her present tense accusations of racism against the white farmer (“trying to show me he was superior to me”) and the crack about the white lawyer being “one of his own kind”…

…I’m not sure how anyone can say that she isn’t a racist.

Nor do I understand how anyone can say that the rest of the video changes what she said.

Way to subtly slide in that FOX isn’t a journalistic outfit, too.

BadgerHawk on July 30, 2010 at 6:46 PM

More to the point, out of about $1 billion paid out so far in settlements, the largest amount has gone to the Sherrods’ New Communities Incorporated, which received some $13 million. As Time Magazine approvingly reported this week, $330,000 was “awarded to Shirley and Charles Sherrod for mental suffering alone.”

Maybe he can get her to pay back the $13 million she and her husband stole from us…

I still don’t see any “mistake” that AB made in the initial release of the video.

He wanted to show racism in action at the NAACP – it did (the people laughing and encouraging her during the first part of the story).

Sherrod, by her own admission in the story, committed an illegal act of racial discrimination. That she later “learned” from it is 1) questionable; and 2) does not alleviate the original action.

And her words and actions SINCE the video have only underlined the fact that she still is a racist.

I said before and I’ll continue to say – we on the right need to stop our limp-wristed, mealy-mouthed, cowardly retreat from the truth when leftists get all up in arms.

AB did nothing wrong and owes no one an apology.

But there are many on the left AND on the right (many right here on HA) who owe AB an apology.

“I know that you don’t fire someone without at least hearing their side of the story unless you want them gone in the first place.” Brown observed that Sherrod had been a thorn in the USDA’s side for years, that many had objected to her hiring, and that she had been “operating a community activist organization not unlike ACORN.” Although Brown does not go into detail, he alludes to a class action lawsuit against the USDA in which she participated some years ago.

I think that when AB’s website featured that video, Obie and those around him panicked because they knew her and her husband’s past, their reputation, their actions and their views, as also Charles She-rod’s associations with Bill Ayers. They didn’t want all of that to come out and so they reacted the way they did.Just to make it go away.
The only problem was when AB showed the video, no one outside of Hussain and his entourage knew who this Charade couple was. BUT NOW WE DO.
And the best part is…this woman still won’t shut up.

Sherrod got a taste for the attention, and when things quieted down for a day or two, she had to find something to rattle to bring the media back.

Poor TRC has been talking to himself all day. I think he’s finally lost it…completely.

It’s almost sad.

I wonder if Andrew already knew about the stuff from the American Thinker article now posted on his site.

Queen0fCups on July 30, 2010 at 6:31 PM

If you go to Cashill’s piece at AT be sure to read the 13th comment and link by “rockingham” for the rest of the outrageous taxpayer swindle.

Cashill early on was the first that I noticed analyzing Ayers’ and Obama’s writing (ghosting) as well as The Stanley Dunham/Frank Marshall Davis connection.

He also had one tracking Obama’s mothers movements after his birth that was interesting.

This isn’t the first time he has done this.

Maybe his dad came in and took the computer away from him?

Breitbart was a fool to release a partial, deceptive video.

He deserves all the grief he has gained because of it.

And the resulting loss of credibility.

His pussyfooting around that fact (“If I could do it all over again, I should have waited for the full video…”- ya think, Andrew?) is pathetically unimpressive.

Sherrod is a class warfare-baiter, and this foolishness only helps that creepy cause.

Thanks a lot, No-So-Breitbart.

profitsbeard on July 30, 2010 at 7:54 PM

Breitbart himself said Sherrod was the speaker but the thing he believed to be most damning was the audience reactions. It was supposed to be about the audience and how hypocritical it was that the separatist NAACP found the Tea Party to be racist. Sherrod is no racist, that’s great. She’s a marxist. And that seems to be all too common a belief system among blacks. And communists used to be tried and jailed for being subversive. Somehow along the way, we’ve given marxists a greenlight to set up shop out in the open. Her husband’s an elderly man but when he was young and angry he was a compatriot of Stokely Carmicheal. He was a pure straight up radical. A dangerous person.

The federal government solved the problem of the broken peace with organized crime during the depression (because the cops needed the revenue more than some sudden surge in gang violence) by going after the gangsters. The government solved the problem of violent 60′s spawned black radicals raising even more hell by paying them off through the back channels. Pigford seems to be one of those channels.

===========================================

She and her white-hating husband Charles Sherrod named her son “Kenyatta”. (In case you’re too young to remember, Jomo Kenyatta was the corrupt, authoritarian ruler of Kenya from 1964-78.

They named her daughter “Russia.” (In case you’re too young to remember, Russia was the largest republic in the USSR, the world’s original communist dictatorship and America’s greatest enemy of the 20th century).

There is only black liberal, black or liberal bigotry. I know this now. There is no racism whatsoever, never has been, never will be, at all, ever on the right.

I know that Andrew Breitbart will teach Shirley Sherrod about racism. He has much to teach her about racism. GOP has much to teach America about racism.

I realize now that I had no business speaking out against what I misread as bigotry, racism, prejudice, anti-gay haranguing and anti-Muslim hatred. I understand that being a conservative means being sucking it up sometimes no matter how wildly the bigot-spigot flows.

I know my place. “Thanks!”

The Race Card on July 30, 2010 at 7:58 PM

It’s a waste of his time to talk with Shirley Sherrod. I don’t know what her personal experiences are but this is a woman so deeply rooted in racism and a hatred for white people, that any reasonable discussion is a fantasy.

That’s why so many libs have ended up on shows like The Political Cesspool or with Alex Jones.

That’s why hotairheads consistently ignore racist, anti-Muslim, anti-gay and ethnically bigoted remarks but have nothing but contempt for refuters like me.

The Race Card on July 30, 2010 at 7:09 PM

Alex Jones was a common feature for libs under a Republican president. Partisans are partisans. The ends justify the means.

As to the second, you’d do better with more than an accusation.

You are not a conservative. You are a hustler. In this case a race hustler who wants to constantly play ‘THE RACE CARD’ for all it is worth.

Conservatives believe in judging someone on their own conduct, not on their race, class, sex, or whatever.

You so far seem totally incapable of judging people, not by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.

Obama waits for you!

sharrukin on July 30, 2010 at 8:06 PM

The blacks should have healed over slavery a long long time ago, like last century. They keep passing that crap down from generation to generation and expect handouts to come forever over something none of us had anything to do with. Th price has been paid. Move on already.

johnnyU on July 30, 2010 at 8:06 PM

There is only black liberal, black or liberal bigotry. I know this now. There is no racism whatsoever, never has been, never will be, at all, ever on the right.

Surely you also know that accusations like this only make that more true, not less.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M%26M%27s

Concurrent with the Blue M&M campaign, M&M’s introduced computer animated “spokescandies” in their television commercials.

Although brown M&Ms have been around since the beginning of the candy, no brown M&M “spokescandy” was included.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Van_Halen

Van Halen specified that a bowl of M&M candies, with all of the brown M&M’s removed, was to be placed in their dressing room.

It’s everywhere!

Ya, just gotta look hard enough!

sharrukin on July 30, 2010 at 8:25 PM

Andrew-listen. Don’t do it. You don’t talk the same language. And if it does have to happen, you must not call her a mongrel.

PaCadle on July 30, 2010 at 8:26 PM

Really? Weird just about all the crime my family has been victims of was done by people of color and yet I am not a bigot. This includes robbery, fraud, burglary, and several assaults.

CWforFreedom on July 30, 2010 at 6:56 PM

That is an interesting point. Do you think it would make a difference were those crimes committed because of your race? Would it make a difference if the most-known slur in the world was attributable to your skin color and was used to justify crimes and brutality against people who look just like you for hundreds of years, in the freest nation on Earth?

It all boils down to this. How many years after slavery would Whites be OK with America and American Blacks? Were America’s race-tables turned, how many years after the Civil Rights Act would everything be OK in your mind? Give me an estimate.

To me it seems that the average conservative is a big ole’ wuss when it comes to dealing with racial discrimination but demands MLK Jr. on the mountaintop from everybody else.
