Videos: Matthews as a Journolist unto himself

posted at 10:55 am on July 29, 2010 by Ed Morrissey

Via Newsbusters, Chris Matthews outs himself as everything that the Right claims Journolist represents in just one week. Over the weekend, Matthews discussed strategy with Newsweek’s Howard Fineman and John Heileman, and specifically suggested an emphasis on voter suppression — making the other party look so bad that people won’t come out to vote at all:

A few days later, Matthews simply takes the bull by the horns and starts employing the strategy on his own, scolding Jennifer Palmieri of the Center for American Progress for not employing it well enough for his taste:

Visit msnbc.com for breaking news, world news, and news about the economy

MATTHEWS: People disagree about it. But I don`t think going after the opposing Wall Street reform is credible.

Here`s a question. You got people, like Sharron Angle, who say they want to have Second Amendment remedies, if you don`t like Congress, like pull a gun out and shoot the Congress. You got people, like Bachmann, who want McCarthy — Joe McCarthy tactics.

JENNIFER PALMIERI, CENTER FOR AMERICAN PROGRESS: Right.

MATTHEWS: You got a lot of crazy screw balls out. They`re not screw balls necessarily, it`s people.

PALMIERI: No. Right.

MATTHEWS: But their ideas are. Why don`t you — why didn`t your party go after the screw balls and say the Republicans are in bed with these nuts?

PALMIERI: Well, I think that was the point –

MATTHEWS: But this doesn`t do that.

PALMIERI: Apparently you think they could have executed that better.

Matthews wants to promote the idea that the Tea Party is the GOP, and the GOP is the Tea Party, which is not coincidentally the entire new theme of the DNC. It’s absurd, as anyone who has attended a Tea Party event could testify. Many, if not most, of the activists are unhappy with both parties, and would side with whichever represented small government, lower spending, and strong national defense. Unfortunately, only one party is even bothering to compete for those votes, and whatever Tea Party support exists for establishment GOP is necessarily reluctant at best.

A journalist, even an opinion journalist, would attempt to understand that nuance. An activist would just parrot the DNC talking points.

Matthews wants to promote the idea that the Tea Party is the GOP, and the GOP is the Tea Party, which is not coincidentally the entire new theme of the DNC.

Look, here’s the deal.

The Tea Party IS NOT the GOP (unfortunately).

What it is … is the AMERICAN PEOPLE.

Now – the Democrats can demonize the Tea Party – and they’ve done it before – with Nancy Pelosi’s comments about “swas-stikas” and Harry Reid’s comments about “evil mongers”.

And they had to back off that really quick – because it produced a result OPPOSITE of what they thought it would produce.

Democrats are in a dream world – they don’t know which end is up and they are making very bad political decisions. Chris Mathews can go out there and play with this ball – but this is just going to highlight for Americans that the left really IS what we on the right say it is … DANGEROUS.

The media has no more credibility. The more they attack the American people – the more successful we’ll be at the polls this November.

EMBRACE THIS.

Matthews was always an Obot activist:

Matthews: My Job Is To Make Obama Presidency a Success

By Mark Finkelstein
Thu, 11/06/2008 -

“Just in time for the new James Bond movie, Chris Matthews has earned himself a new moniker: Odd Job. Matthews says he sees his job as a journalist as doing everything he can to make the Obama presidency a success.

http://newsbusters.org/blogs/mark-finkelstein/2008/11/06/odd-job-matthews-says-his-role-make-obama-presidency-success

At least he was up front about his intentions.

I hope he is the first against the wall.

Metaphorically, of course. That makes anything you say okay by J-list rules, doesn’t it?

How about just “MOC”, paired with LOC” for Literally, of course”?

I can’t wait to see Chrissy’s head explode, MOC.
I’d like to see Obama fail, LOC.

Just keep focus here – none of this matters.

Fact is – the American people have made up their mind to restore checks and balances to government by electing the opposite party. The only question now is – will they elect enough of the opposite party to actually provide an effective “check” on Obama?

The lame stream can demonize Republicans – but it’s not going to work because – hell, it didn’t work when we attempted to show Obama’s true radical colors. The fact is – the American people were tired of the GOP running things and decided to try the Democrats for a change and they weren’t going to listen to what they considered to be the “death squeals” of Republicans who were saying that electing Obama would put a radical in the White House.

And they aren’t going to listen to Chrissy Mathews or any Democrats and their “death squeals” now.

Americans have made up their minds to restore a government of checks and balances.

If there another large party other than the GOP for them to elect – they’d prolly go with that party. Since only the GOP exists for those ends – then it’s the GOP who will be the beneficiaries this November.

It has nothing to do with GOP ideas. It has nothing to do with the Tea Party. What it is – is a decision to STOP OBAMA’S CHANGE.

Period.

Even when the Dems lose, the MSM will say the voters made a mistake. That is why the margin of the loss needs to be MASSIVE. I hate that the beneficiaries of the new power would be the current R leadership, but with a massive turnover, there might be enough newbies that they would actually listen to constituents.

I’m going to be recording the lefties after the November election when they “unexpectedly” get their asses kicked. I better stock up on popcorn.

Mojave Mark on July 29, 2010 at 12:06 PM

Well, the one thing that Chris Matthews and Howard Fineman have in common is a complete lack of viewers and readers, respectively.

Newsweek is on the auction block, where it promises to be sold for a pittance, and Chris continues to be skewered by Fox News (whose viewership is usually a multiple of its MSNBC and CNN counterparts).

These guys are like rats leaving a sinking ship because they believe that their beloved DNC is going to be electorally slaughtered in November.

I suspect that they are right.

molonlabe28 on July 29, 2010 at 12:08 PM

The Left hates, hates, HATES the will of the people when the people don’t march in lock step with them, once they’re out of step the left feels nothing but contempt. They suppress, overturn or ignore votes that they don’t find useful. They use the American voter just like they use everyone else.

ONce again I point out that Chris Matthews was the invited guest speaker at a dinner at the Reagan Library on July 20th. The subject was the need for civility and bipartisan spirit in political discourse and media coverage. And he was there to argue FOR that, not as a negative example.

This vapid jingoistic POS was absolutely the worst person for it, and combined with his anchoring of the Presidential debate held there in ’08, it points to some truly ignorant or pie-eyed idiots working at the Reagan.

Chris Matthews should scourged. He should tarred and feathered. He should have filth thrown at him everywhere he shows his face.

rayra on July 29, 2010 at 3:08 PM

Crissy Mathews has scrambled eggs mixed with scrapple for brains. I have never seen him do anything but try to dominate a conversation by talking over people and interrupting with another thought before a complete coherent point can be made by his conservative guests. He demonizes conservatives while faintly praising those he has in the studio.
