Quotes of the day
posted at 10:50 pm on July 29, 2010 by Allahpundit
Yet of late, it sure seems as if the elites are failing to listen to the people–and the people, empowered by new technology, are rising up to smack down the elites as never before. And while the right has sometimes misread public opinion–see Harriet Miers, the early hesitancy in the Katrina relief effort, and the Dubai Ports Deal, to name just three–the left appears to have a tinnier ear. Just in the past few years, we’ve seen the failure of “comprehensive immigration reform,” the failure to close Gitmo, the failure to find an American location for the Khaled Sheik Mohammed trial, and, of course, the failure to understand the Tea Partiers and the townhall-ers.
So where will it end? Will Gingrich ride a populist Jacksonian wave into the White House? It’s hard to know the future, of course, and Gingrich isn’t the only opponent of the mosque and assorted p.c. positions. But it seems inevitable that we are going to see a showdown between the elites and the masses. And interestingly enough, these days, the MSM–those self-proclaimed speakers of truth to power–usually takes the side of the elite.

Full speech here.

Didn’t Newt just hold on to Palin’s skirt after she already opposed the mosque and took all the hostile fire?
VidOmnia on July 29, 2010 at 10:55 PM
I like Newt, but the Press will just EXCORIATE him… Think Palin, exponentially…
Newt certainly runs inrtellectual rings around current POTUS… That’s not even a fair fight…
Khun Joe on July 29, 2010 at 10:56 PM
He is correct. I am very concerned with creeping sharia.
ReneePA on July 29, 2010 at 10:58 PM
Not really. Palin was the only one awake and responded to what was going on. The rest were still rubbing the sleep out of their eyes.
Electrongod on July 29, 2010 at 10:58 PM
Newt is indeed riding the populist wave as of late. He “is” the very elite he is ripping.
I don’t trust him.

Sitting on the couch with Lugosi in support of a blatant lie and his subsequent support for Dede in NY has neutered Newt.
A smart man that, unfortunately, shoves his head up his own ass on occaision…

Newt thinks too much. It prevents him from realizing he is one of the “elite”. Too much time in DC. Sorry.

Newt makes nice speeches but his conservatism is of the ADD variety. He is a political gadfly whose time has come and gone. Don’t get fooled again.

He kinda seems opportunistic. Maybe I am wrong, but I am a little suspicious.
sharrukin on July 29, 2010 at 11:01 PM
When it comes to standing up for conservative principals, Newt will always find his inner Lindsey Graham and fold like a Haitian condo in an earthquake.
He should be head of the RNC, but no more than that.

We’ll see… I no longer underestimate the idiocy of a large percentage of the American electorate or the ability of the Republicans to turn great opportunities into disasters.
neuquenguy on July 29, 2010 at 11:03 PM
I thought Pinkerton’s article was interesting, but he seems to be rather naive (or maybe just disingenuous) on some points. He says, “…the elites have misapprehended the will of the people.” Far from it. The elites understand the will of the people very well, that is why they are working so hard to suppress it. Consider all the measures afoot in the liberal elite universe: the Fairness Doctrine, expansion of government control over the internet and just today it was announced that the feds are seeking access to records of individuals’ web activity without a court order, and the list goes on, ad nauseum. The fact is that those of us out here in fly-over country are fully aware that the elites of the political class and the media hold us in a mixture of contempt and fear. What they have felt so far is just the tiny beginning of the backlash to come. For most of us, November can’t come fast enough.
cynccook on July 29, 2010 at 11:04 PM
Not to worry. We have Obama. He will attack it like the pandemic H1N1 flu last year. Count on it.
Electrongod on July 29, 2010 at 11:06 PM
Newt seems to be a man of contradictions- soft on some issue, hard on others.
However, he seems to be someone who could be trusted on the core issues, such as the economy, defence, and strong diplomacy. To date, you’ve had a lot worse.
OldEnglish on July 29, 2010 at 11:06 PM
It seems that Mr. Gingrich gives a good speech when talking to a conservative audience, but when talking to a mixed audience he seems to lose his way. Trying to be both conservative and moderate at the same time.
Perhaps I am just burned out on politics, or have been burned too many times in the past, but I don’t trust any of them anymore.
Skandia Recluse on July 29, 2010 at 11:06 PM
Yeah I know. But if I had to put my money somewhere…What’s left that is.

Two words for that great populist man of the people, Newt Gingrich:
“Dede Scozzafava”
Oh, and if that’s not enough, who’s on the global warming couch with you, Newt? Oh, that wouldn’t be Nancy Pelosi, would it?
VidOmnia on July 29, 2010 at 11:08 PM
Newt is right behind Sarah, occasionally ahead, but “desperately seeking relevance” for 2012. Ah,if only he wasn’t sitting on the couch of global warming with san fran nan, foisting dede up and having to slip out the back door from the speakership. Truthfully, for all the brain he is the weakest link in a general election.

I’m going to side with the masses and to he!! with the politicians.
Things are so bad at this point that I have begun taking in children into our home (friends of my son’s) whose parents can no longer support them. We’ll find a way on our own, Obama be damned.
The saddest thing that I’m seeing, is parents actually unable to keep their homes and their children fed and clothed. These are close and personal friends. The parents are moving into shelters (for adults) and we’re keeping the kids, yet we’ll all stay together. Not every night and not for every meal, but on weekends.
This is Obama’s Amurica.
We’ll make it despite him. I hate this man and his policies and what he is doing to the middle class.

Newt is one good speaker. Unfortunately, when not speeching he stumbles badly. Remember DeDe? or Global Warming? Why work hard to get Newt elected if once he is in power he’d be more than willing to bargain away your positions?

Newt’s talent would be better focused on reforming academia. He’s blown his chance for a presidential run with all of the above mentioned gaffes. But he is smart, shrewd, and a natural teacher. He needs to lead the fight to return our colleges and universities to institutions of higher learning, not the gulags of indoctrination they have been for the last forty years.
mpk on July 29, 2010 at 11:26 PM
I also remember how he turned into a wet noodle as speaker.
ddrintn on July 29, 2010 at 11:27 PM
Yes, most self-sufficient Americans will make it despite him. But this destruction of the middle class, the economy and the country as a superpower is by design. It’s aim is to create a permanent, and as large as possible, dependent underclass. The Democrats have been working on this objective for a long time and now that Americans have given them the presidency, and supermajorities, are moving full force ahead to realize their dream. The destruction of the private sector and amnesty are other big pieces of the puzzle, the more people depending on handouts the more entrenched the liberals are in power.
Let’s hope there is enough of the great American spirit still alive to effectively push back on this.
neuquenguy on July 29, 2010 at 11:27 PM
Newt? First off he’s just a Country Club Get-a-long Career politician that is a reject of the 90′s.

Palin is certainly the anti-elite candidate. She has demonstrated she can take on the political and media elites and can certainly resonate with the public. The proof is in the incredible deranged hatred and fear displayed by the elites towards her. How much damage the media and the RINOs have done to her chances remains to be seen.
neuquenguy on July 29, 2010 at 11:46 PM

Key West Reader on July 29, 2010 at 11:31 PM
Nah, you can’t deny that Newt truly is brilliant. If I were in politics, I’d certainly want him advising me on certain things. The problem with him is that (newfound devout Catholicism aside)
he’s too much of a moral relativist. He seems too willing to settle or sell out instead of sticking to his guns (such as they are). It’s the professor in him; he’s always ready to play Devil’s advocate. And, maybe he’s too much of a pragmatist for Conservatives these days. Ronald Reagan was certainly a pragmatist as well, but it didn’t define him. You knew that he held sacred a set of core beliefs and values that were never going to change or weaken. You also knew that he loved America more than he loved himself. To me, Newt seems like a quaint anachronism from the 90′s. Back then, there didn’t seem to be so much on the line. You could afford to be a little less committed.

Newt can’t have this effect on him.
Newt will not try to remove his testicles, so to speak.

Newt Gingrich is too much of a shape-shifter. It is very hard to trust him. Some days he applauds Nancy Pelosi for her “leadership” and Al Gore for his “leadership” on Global Warming. Other days he denounces the “elites” and the Muslim Victory Mosque. He is like that you-never-know-what-you-are-going-to get Box of Chocolates. Makes me think of a half time loving/half time abusing husband. How would you ever know if he was going to hug and kiss you or punch you in the mouth.

For America is losing sleep
It’s time to break the spell
Who is Allen West and what is he up to, do tell?
Rumor has it he’s a cannoneer
He’s a dashing buccaneer
I hear he’s handy with the quips
He’s the annihilator of Obama statist creeps with information on their lying at his fingertips
They say he’s nearly seven feet tall
And yet quite graceful… … all in all
I’m told there are lightning bolts when he walks
And thunder when he talks!
He’s been many times seen
Wearing DCU and then full OD green
I hear he’s steely as you please
He could be Japanese
He may be shrewd
He may be rude
Ah well, it’s hard to tell
Who is this Allen West, do tell?
The Obama statists may think he comes from Hell
But he may come from somewhere just around the dell
But he will be here and he will be there
You could see him giving the Obama statists hell most any time and most anywhere
He meddles with the Obama statist devolution
Stomping them mightily throughout each week
Spoiling every Obama statists’ lying elocution
La, what cheek!

Palin debate quotes (edited, doctored :) )
I may not answer the questions that either the moderator or you want to hear, but I’m going to talk straight to the American people and let them know my track record.
I do take issue with some of the principles there with that redistribution of wealth principle that seems to be espoused by you. But when you talk about Barack’s plan to tax increase affecting only those making $250,000 a year or more, you’re forgetting millions of small businesses that are going to fit into that category. So they’re going to be the ones paying higher taxes thus resulting in fewer jobs being created and less productivity.
An increased tax formula that Barack Obama is proposing in addition to nearly a trillion dollars in new spending that he’s proposing is the backwards way of trying to grow our economy.

Don’t let the handle fool you, I’m not in Key West; it’s my favorite place to kick back and read.
Grayson came to town in 2005 in anticipation of riding the coattails of Duh Uh. He’s originally from NY, has holdings in a few law firms, numerous investments in real estate and his $2m investment in some street thugs went belly up, forcing him to sue its takers, who took his money and ran for the hills.
See the link below for information on Alan Grayson and his .. ahem Trust Fund.

He has real estate holdings in McLean, VA, New York, New Jersey and in Orlando.

From this day forward, when I speak of our Duh Uh I will refer to Duh Uh as a “she”. She’s worked hard, and she has earned her place on the View. She has danced and pranced and displayed herself so wonderfully for the media.

Ok, I am getting confused again. Are we supposed to believe that Newt Gingrich is not one of the elites and is one of the common folk? Is this the entire basis for this article and justification for how Newt is going to lead “the people” on a revolt against the “ruling elite”?
Is that really the whole premise of this story? WTF. Are you kidding me? Allahdumbit… you must be snorting something in very profuse amounts to be able to try to advance that one.
Give me a break. Newt Gingrich is the common man. A man of the people. Just an average, everyday sort of fellow who will inspire people to follow him to kick those nasty “elites” out of office.
Yikes. My head hurts.
